For Emory specifically, fine if the coaches want to say they have been impressed and for a TF he is exceeding metrics but it would be a disservice to the kid to start putting tags and labels on him as if he is Arch Manning and has the pressure to be good. I really doubt the staff is doing that but giving him some praise, followed by some completions in mop up duty and fans are quick to anoint him. See Jake Garcia as a VERY recent example.

Regardless of what is there Mario seems pretty clear about bringing in people to compete. I would say our Safety room was pretty set with Kam and Williams yet Mario really wanted that Tulane S with only one year left to play. RB room was seen as a strength with Don, Rooster, Parrish, Thad and Fletch coming in. Yet we brought in Allen, or TE with the depth we had yet brought in Cam. I also get having a high rated QB to be your ambassador or to show future growth because people focus on that position but it is always a crapshoot.

I mean in 2020 these were the top 10 QBs by ranking
Bryce Young (NFL)
DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson transfer to Oregon State)
CJ Stroud (NFL)
Evan Prater (still on the bench at Cincinnati)
JaQuinden Jackson (Went to TX transfer to Utah, listed as RB)
Hudson Card (Went to TX then transfer to Purdue)
Malik Hornsby (Went to Ark then transfer to Texas State)
Harrison Bailey (Went to Tenn, transfer to UNLV, then transfer to Lville as backup)
Luke Doty (still at SCaR, injuries)
Haynes Kinds (ATM Commit now at GT)

2021 class is performing much better with Ewers, Caleb Williams, Sam Huard, Drake Maye, etc. but still had some busts such as Vandagriff, Kaidon Salter, Tyler Buchner, Ty Thompson.

The portal changed a lot of things but especially at QB. There can be only one and the good ones will get poached or try to be poached while the underperformers fade away. I def see a portal QB coming in almost regardless of what happens in HS recruiting but with Dawson and the weapons we seems to compiling we shouldnt have trouble bringing in a QB.

Yes, Billy sucks as an OC and that’s hurting him. Lagway is helping him. Lagway is keeping the gator in this for JJ. The gator will bring in an OC. If Lagway was committed to us, I don’t think it’s close for the other in-state guys.

No, I never said I have no faith in Emory. What I’m saying is it’s too soon to anoint him and assume it’s going to resonate as Emory being an unquestioned future 1st round pick at this time with class of 24 WRs 10 or so thrown balls in (12/15 apparently) and that he may turn out that way but we’re not there yet.

Yes, if Emory was a 5 star he’d be a bigger draw at this early time in his career. That’s just how it works until he really proves otherwise over time and with more play.

Imma be honest idc as much as you are leading on. I haven't said one bad word about Emory this season. My thoughts are on record and I will be wrong or right is what it is. People attempting to internet bully aren’t as inportant once I open a new browsing window. Actually pretty funny tbh.

Correct, Emory may end up being great and Lagway may end up sucking, as anything is possible, but right now Lagway has clout as a 5 star HS QB with other recruits that a small sample size playing 3 star doesn’t have at this juncture.

It’s not that complicated. You’re not looking at it objectively like a 24 stud WR recruit would. You’re looking at it as an unobjective Cane fan right now.

I dont see anyone bullying anyone. Show me the bullying outside of people having different opinions. I see a bunch of people saying we need a different QB and other people saying Emory is gonna be good. I dont see no mob v 1 guy tyoe scenario. And u do seem to care because you are the one acting like you are oppressed. Like u have no way to say your opinion with out persecution. Do u expect everyone is gonna agree with you? You are in the wrong place if thats your expectation.

I am not looking at it like that. If they were both in high school i would agree. One is in college, One is in high school. Its not just the game film, recruits can watch practice. They know.

I mean, idk what you mean by it sounds familiar. Mario has only been here for a year and a half or so and hasn’t hyped anyone else. Are you talking about previous staff?

Oh for me nothing is new under the sun. This translates across multiples staffs of multiple teams. I’ve seen this exact scenario play out before, is all. Happens every year hundreds of times. Emery is extremely impressive for a true freshman. Full stop. I think anything past that is wild is all

Let's be very clear here.

You are correct that Lagway has clout as a 5-star. That is the truth.

On the other hand, we do not CURRENTLY have a 5-star QB. So what we SELL is the rapid development of a guy like Emory. DOESN'T MEAN IT WILL RESONATE WITH ALL RECRUITS. But you show them what is happening with the WRs development and with QB development, and then you point out that Mario is going after blue-chippers at every position, and is never resting on laurels or being content with what we already have.

Will it work? I have no idea. But we can't snap our fingers and create a 5-star QB recruit overnight.

I would certainly not argue against @JustAFanHTX and his assessments, even if I do think it's funny that Gaytor fans believe Lagway will be their savior from Day 1, while our Mope Squad doesn't allow us to have a moment's worth of optimism on the first 6 or 8 months of Emory's development at UM. And your point on the RECRUITS is spot-on.

But we have to sell the development angle right now. It's literally our strongest selling point when we go from 5-7 to 5-0 in one year (and, yes, I think we are going to beat GaTech).

Doesn't mean anyone is slurping, but you just have to sell the inventory that you have, not the inventory that you wish you had.

I hear you. That’s fair. The good thing about Mario is he’s going to let QB’s compete so nothing is set in stone and I expect a big time portal to come in December or so.
