I think they without a doubt need to get a veteran arm in the mix next year from the portal. Have to figure kids are gonna line up to be able to sit behind this line, with the receivers and RB’s in the fold and also Dawson calling plays.

He’s talented but SouthPark said multi year starter in the portal. I agree. Can’t leave it to chance. May the best man win. Maybe something Similar to Hartmann going to ND for 1 year. Give Emory that extra year to develop. I would not feel good going into game 1 at UiF with either Emory or Jacurri.

Anyway, let’s get this thread back in line:

WR: Let’s get this Georgia decommit and hopefully Smith!

I don't see what the issue with what @JustAFanHTX is saying. He is literally saying that we haven't seen enough from Emory to go and anoint him a surefire answer at the position for the future. His only snaps as a True Freshman have come against M-OH, BCU, and Temple. Sure he's looked good in that very limited duty but it's also against horrible comp. It's not like he's saying Williams sucks, just that he isn't ready to crown him as the next big thing.

With how things just went with Jake Garcia, you would think we learned our lesson than to hop on the hype train after limited mop up duty lol.

Seems like Malik will be the number one target for everyone. We should be looking but so will Bama, USC, FSU, Oregon etc. going to be a battle

Also im pretty certain they are not gonna have just Judd, Emory and JB. Multiple people have made that clear but somehow yall think they wouldn't tell that to recruits. Maybe if Innis had some faith he wouldnt be stuck riding the pine for a mid offense.
Also the QB is one part of the offense, who is the OC? Billy?

I also remember the faith in Lane Kiffin, the 1-19 v teams with 9 or more wins.

If Emory was rated 5 stars yall would be convinced he was gonna be a star.

Yes, I have a lot of faith in Lagway. His performance this season has been very good as I understand it and he’s a top 3-5 QB in the class of 24.

Yes, Billy sucks as an OC and that’s hurting him. Lagway is helping him. Lagway is keeping the gator in this for JJ. The gator will bring in an OC. If Lagway was committed to us, I don’t think it’s close for the other in-state guys.

No, I never said I have no faith in Emory. What I’m saying is it’s too soon to anoint him and assume it’s going to resonate as Emory being an unquestioned future 1st round pick at this time with class of 24 WRs 10 or so thrown balls in (12/15 apparently) and that he may turn out that way but we’re not there yet.

Yes, if Emory was a 5 star he’d be a bigger draw at this early time in his career. That’s just how it works until he really proves otherwise over time and with more play.

I think people just get too hung up on one side of the coin. Like of course offensive recruits will ask about our plan at QB and of course the coaches need to sell what is currently on the roster being Jaccuri and Emory. That doesnt mean they are walking around saying he is Trev Lawerence and a generational first round talent.

For Emory specifically, fine if the coaches want to say they have been impressed and for a TF he is exceeding metrics but it would be a disservice to the kid to start putting tags and labels on him as if he is Arch Manning and has the pressure to be good. I really doubt the staff is doing that but giving him some praise, followed by some completions in mop up duty and fans are quick to anoint him. See Jake Garcia as a VERY recent example.

Regardless of what is there Mario seems pretty clear about bringing in people to compete. I would say our Safety room was pretty set with Kam and Williams yet Mario really wanted that Tulane S with only one year left to play. RB room was seen as a strength with Don, Rooster, Parrish, Thad and Fletch coming in. Yet we brought in Allen, or TE with the depth we had yet brought in Cam. I also get having a high rated QB to be your ambassador or to show future growth because people focus on that position but it is always a crapshoot.

I mean in 2020 these were the top 10 QBs by ranking
Bryce Young (NFL)
DJ Uiagalelei (Clemson transfer to Oregon State)
CJ Stroud (NFL)
Evan Prater (still on the bench at Cincinnati)
JaQuinden Jackson (Went to TX transfer to Utah, listed as RB)
Hudson Card (Went to TX then transfer to Purdue)
Malik Hornsby (Went to Ark then transfer to Texas State)
Harrison Bailey (Went to Tenn, transfer to UNLV, then transfer to Lville as backup)
Luke Doty (still at SCaR, injuries)
Haynes Kinds (ATM Commit now at GT)

2021 class is performing much better with Ewers, Caleb Williams, Sam Huard, Drake Maye, etc. but still had some busts such as Vandagriff, Kaidon Salter, Tyler Buchner, Ty Thompson.

The portal changed a lot of things but especially at QB. There can be only one and the good ones will get poached or try to be poached while the underperformers fade away. I def see a portal QB coming in almost regardless of what happens in HS recruiting but with Dawson and the weapons we seems to compiling we shouldnt have trouble bringing in a QB.

This is what they do here man. If you don’t inhale the full sunshine emanating from UM right off the bat and with real vigor, you’re a hater. God forbid you want to be measured and wait for a greater sample size or think someone else’s 5 star is a more accomplished prospect than our 3 star.

U online playing the victim card. We all have our opinions here. U think Emory is no good, others dont. All u have to do is simply state it and watch it play out, just like everyone else. No one is putting you on trial or banning u from the board or none of that.

Actually, i never banned you.

I heard all summer all opinions about Mario, married bro style, Herbert, cant recruit WRs. On and on. This is just another one. One side will be right and the other dead wrong.
