Have no problem with this move and believes it shows golden knows the pressure is on to win right now. He doesn't have the luxury to sit through another bad to mediocre season.

Absolutely no way to put a timetable on Ryan. And lets remember its not like like hes all conference caliber. He was a safe option that knew the offense but doesnt mean he was gonna be great anyway. Regardless of lip service not many in the program are expecting much from Ryan. If he does recover and looks good, then great would be in running for playing time depending on how our current qb situation looks. Also remember when u guys say **** about Heaps and Crow these are kids not getting paid. Your not critizing Lebron or Tony Romo....And you cant just "Cut" Crow's scholorship this isnt the nfl. Doesnt work like that.

You couldn't until the end of the year, but yes, you absolutely can. They're one year renewable scholarships. Signing that LOI isn't a guarantee of getting four years at the school you sign it for. Is it unethical? Yeah. Impossible? Nope.

Actually I don't know why people have a problem with this. He provides the same insurance that Williams was always going to provide if Alfred did what a ton of you (us) wanted- had a real competition between Olsen and Kaaya. I'm sorry. I bet Williams is a great kid but I bet there's no appreciable difference between what he was going to be and what Heaps would be. If anything Heaps probably has a higher upside. All that said, mannnnnnnn I wish Kaaya had been an early enrollee.

Honestly, my mother-in-law is a KU graduate and loves all their athletics so I've followed some of their games and I know how terrible they are from both a talent/personnel standpoint, but also from a scheme standpoint. They love slow developing screens and fake the read option on most plays. It is my belief that these plays are not Heaps' strengths, so I decided to go back and watch his games and chart things to get a better feel for what we're looking at here.
Kansas State game, enters with the score already 14-0. Obviously this limits the QB because the defense knows a lot of passes are coming due to a deficit, plus it's their rival and they want to bury them.
First play, trips to his right and single back with a WR to his left. His OL was a sieve and he stepped up nicely to avoid the rush. Keeps his eyes up and hits his crossing slot WR right in the chest for what would've been a nice five yard gain on 1st down and put things manageable. Instead, his WR drops it. Counts as 0-1, but really should've been 1-1.
Second down is a famous screen that is slow developing and they tried to run it left. K-State reads it brilliantly, as they normally do screens. The OL tipped it off badly as well. He doesn't ground it *** quickly as he should and the RB gets beyond the LOS so they call grounding. Not his fault, but he should've just punted quicker as the play was dead.
Third play they fake the read option on 3rd and 19 and the rush nearly takes the handoff and sacks him. Heaps had no chance on this series after the nice pass over the middle was dropped to start.
It's now 21-0 and Heaps comes on with 20 personnel (2 RB, 0 TE, 3 WR). Run to LT nets 8. Run 20 personnel up the gut and get the 1st down. Unfortunately his RB fumbles and K-State gets the ball back. Did I mention how terrible KU is?
Heaps is pressured and throws the ball away. 2nd down and comes out in 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE, 3 WR). He comes out in a three step drop and throws a dime to the far side WR just as he's coming out of his break away from the LB underneath and in front of the CB behind for a 1st down. That makes 1-2 passing, but should be 2-2. He's also gotten 1st downs consecutively. 11 personnel and a read option handoff up the gut for two. On 2nd and 8 they run 20 personnel up the middle out of shotgun for 4 yards. 11 personnel on 3rd and 4 out of the pistol, the outside WR runs a slant and Heaps hits his foot in the ground on a three step drop and delivers a perfect strike right into the hands of the WR and with the ball in front so he can run for an easy first down. Except...he drops it. 1-3 passing, but should be 3-3 and another first down. Heaps is actually playing well thus far, as he's also made some solid decisions on the read option.
Still 21-0 and now KU is in 10 personnel (1 RB, 0 TE, 4 WR) out of shotgun. Takes the snap, has the ball nice and high and delivers a strike to his right that goes for 18 yards. He should now be 4-4 with almost all of them going for a 1st down. He's "completed" two over the middle, one to his left and one to his right. He now has KU to the K-State 30. Back to 11 personnel out of shotgun, throws deep to his left and overthrows it. What you do see is a nice ball though, over the correct shoulder and to a place that if WR doesn't get it, no one does on a 1st down play. His WR was also bumped off his route by a physical DB, which contributes to the overthrow. Stay in 11 out of shotgun, looks left, comes back right and throws a dart to his outside WR for a 1st down. Great arm strength and ball placement, with the ball being high and away where the DB could not get to it. Best throw thus far. He's now 5-6 on his part in charting throws. Stay in 11 personnel, run motion and then motion back as Heaps points out pressure up front out of shotgun. Drops back, looks left and then comes back for a screen to his right that is a nice fake and nets 6 yards on 1st down. Down to the K-State 13. Same personnel, run the ball up the gut for 3 yards, setting up a short 3rd down. Same play ran again nets nothing. Run 11 personnel out of pistol on 4th down and rather than take the FG, they run play action and Heaps does a nice job on the fake and then hits his TE over the middle for a TD!
I've seen Heaps be on target every throw thus far. The stat sheet isn't overly impressive at 5-9, 68 yards and a TD, but it could easily be something along the lines of 7-9 with more opportunities to keep the ball and leave the offense out there. Strong arm, nice fakes, points out pressure. Could scan the field a little better, as it seems to be cut in half most plays and loves the ball over the middle. His right WR is worlds better than his left hand WR.
KU forces a turnover and takes over K-State 45. Running 11 personnel out of shotgun, fakes and goes the HR ball and slightly overthrows it and off the wrong shoulder in my mind out of bounds. Safe throw on 1st down, but should've been better. Same personnel out of shotgun looks left, comes back right and throws a dart in between two defenders right on WR's hands as he comes out of his break for a gain of 7. 7-12, 78 yards and a TD at this point. Could easily be much better if not for drops. KU calls TO right after KSU had (clown show there from the coaches). Comes out in 10 personnel and runs motion to the near side of camera out of shotgun, looks over the middle, pumps deep, checks down and gets the 1st down. 10 personnel out of pistol nets 3. Out of 11 personnel he guns the ball a step in front of his WR and the CB breaks on the ball well and knocks it down. It was a step too far. 8-14 with drops still. 11 personnel on 3rd and 7 and Heaps looks left, comes back right and hits his RB leaking out of the backfield for a walk-in TD, great play. Only, the RB dropped it. Sheesh, that one hurts all the way around. FG is good to make it 21-10.

By my charting he should have completed 11 passes in a row, several of medium difficulty. 10 personnel again, I am telling you Heaps stands tall, scans the field and throws a laser over the middle of the field into the arms of his receiver for a huge gain. Only the receiver actually tucks the ball into his knee and shoots the ball forward into the arms of the S who takes it the other way. Since he hadn't taken two steps, this goes in the books as an interception, when in reality it was a big boy throw that should've taken KU deep into KSU territory. When they show the field view from the defensive side, you see that he actually dropped it beautifully over the LB's hands into his receivers hands perfectly. Heaps is playing out of his mind at this point, but has barely above a 50% completion percentage, one TD instead of two, and an interception on a perfect pass.
It's now 28-10 and they come out in 11 personnel out of the shotgun. This kid throws the comeback exceptionally well. He looks right, comes back left right on time for the comeback and a 1st down. 11 out of personnel pistol, run for no gain. 11 personnel out of shotgun he waits for his WR to clear the LB on a deep post and hits his in stride perfectly for a 1st down. 11 personnel out of shotgun he is pressured up the middle, threw off his back foot and used all arm, hits his WR on a square-in right in the chest, but it bounces off that chest for an incomplete pass. Should've been a 1st down. 11 personnel shotgun and he makes a nice play looking left that was designed to be a dumpoff to his RB, it's covered so he comes back over the middle to the WR who is open, pass hits him in the chest and bounces off- again. 3rd and 10 now, but two straight passes that were right on target and dropped by his receivers. 11 personnel and the blitz comes up the middle, stands tall and throws a ball deep down the left sideline. His WR is tackled and they draw a PI penalty. Great throw that would've been a TD. Smart play by the DB. 11 personnel, run trap off RT for 7 yards. 12 personnel shotgun, run up the middle for -1. 10 personnel shotgun, Heaps backs up on 3rd and 2 places ball on back hip of receiver in the only place he get to it and the defender can't. Caught (nice catch) and the defender wrestled the ball away but after he was down. To avoid a reply they go quick and snap it under C for the sneak and a few yards. 11 personnel from the 22 out of shotgun and he steps up in the pocket nicely and throws the ball a little low on a crosser and his receiver can't hold it. This wasn't a great pass and it should've been a TD, but it also should've been caught. 3rd and 8 and they run 11 personnel out of the shotgun and they try to run the TE to the seam and he had a step. Heaps underthrew the pass and it's picked off. This could've been avoided had his receiver caught the ball on the previous play, but this wasn't a good throw and he knew it. He didn't see that the nickel CB didn't have a runner run into his zone in Cover 3 and he came into the seam to take that away from the TE, so while he had a step on the S, the CB took the throw away. Heaps didn't see it and put too much air under it and not enough distance.

All of his deep passes have been long, which is a good thing because it could be more timing than not having the arm to get it there. Again over the wrong shoulder though. This is a throw for him to work on and get under control. 10 personnel out of the shotgun, clean pocket, steps up nicely and throws into a zone coverage that is almost picked off as the LB's converged. Tried to fit a ball that just wasn't there. K-State is playing a ton of zone late and taking away anything past the 1st down marker playing the time and score defense. 11 personnel and all kinds of pressure. He makes a dumb throw here trying to make a play and doesn't see the LB sitting on the dumpoff and picks it off. He had an alley to run for a few yards and live to fight another day. This was just a bad decision when pressured. Not good here.
They pulled him after that play. He didn't end especially well, but man he has a lot of talent and made some great throws in this game. Heaps is a disaster at QB. He was horrible at BYU although admittedly I didn't follow him much after that. As far as the "it" factor, he aint got it.
What happens if Heaps is actually playing decently when RW is healthy enough to play again? QB controversy for DAYS, that's what.
Does this also mean that GASP!!!!!! Baby Jesus actually.......isn't?

Yep he got yanked for a different scrub the next season. He was mediocre at best.
And he didn't break every freshman record there. He broke 3 and none of them are earth shattering.

That's a dumb statement. In 3 real recruiting classes he has brought in 2 top 10 qbs.

I guess I'm being optimistic about our defense but I think if we can get solid QB play we will be pretty good. I think this is a very solid move. Everyday as a team or a player you get better or worse you never stay the same. I think we got better as a team today.
