Miami vs NCAA Hearings Day 1

Tons of notes from Barry Jackson

### In response to the lack of institutional control charge, UM will tell the committee that it hired an investigator (Wayne Black) to check into Shapiro about a decade ago, and he found nothing;.”

Worst P.I. ever! If this guy investigated a McDonald's he'd find no evidence of hamburgers or fat people.

Are you basing this on knowledge of the guy or just because he found nothing? Remember that the FBI, the world's premiere investigative agency, stated in their report that Shapiro was a master at covering his tracks, and that at one point their investigation on him went cold for an entire year because they couldn't find evidence they needed to go further.

The article suggest Donna does not plan to sue.

No one is suggestion we get more than 5 scollies a year over 3 years.

Show me the numbers on Al self imposing. He did not self impose 1 scollie.

Al is a great coach but last years recruiting class wasn't what we needed. He made the hires to remedy that and I think 2014 will be more solid. Our sanctions will likely have yearly and total roster limits. We had 84 on our roster last year so if we imposed for 2012 we did so by 1. When fall comes we will see how many we have this year but I think you will see that number pretty close to 85.

I am curious if you have any cases where the NCAA was forced by the court to impose scollie reductions.

Every university president is a pro and no one said the NCAA was going to blow us up. They give us between 3 and 5 a year which UM will accept. We get credit for the bowl bans but we never self imposed scollie reductions.

The bold is IYO. It is so easy to recruit with this NCAA BS too. In addition, we're still recruiting South Florida...land of the drama. Look at Matthew Thomas and Alex Collins. We still deal with coaches (Uncle Puke, Coach Lice, John Drummond etc.) who have "interesting" motives and agendas. I think why NSD wasn't so exciting (only Cooley, Grace and Edwards), the class was filled nicely minus a DT or 2.

Did we miss on some kids, sure. Of course we missed on some kids. Could the class have been better, yes the class can always be better.

I just don't think it is fair to say the class "wasn't what we needed." Some of these kids won't step on the field till 2014-2015.

“‘Delusional and mentally unstable?’” Shapiro replied when I asked about that description of him, which Miami uses in its unavailing motion to the NCAA to dismiss the case. “[Shalala] would prefer that I be, because it would take the spotlight off how f—– up her own university is.
“If I wanted to make a point and run her football players into ineligibility, I could do so right now from prison … Nobody knows who I’m in contact with on the outside and for what reason. You think that these coaches, assistant or head, could possibly control the needs and temptations of 80-plus kids on their squad? In that city? No way Jose, and I could prove my point if I had to.”

Ol boy is out of his mind

UM self imposed recruiting limits for this past class - some of that is public information.

Regarding the possibility of a lawsuit, UM was never going to sue before going as far as it can within the procedures of the NCAA. If the NCAA is following its own procedures - having a hearing, allowing an appeal, etc. (and please don't mention NCAA Enforcement's rule breaking here, as that is a separate issue) - then any lawsuit by UM prior to exhausting the avenues for relief provided by the NCAA would be premature.

I can't comment further on UM case, but I can comment on NCAA matters in general.

"I spoke with Rich Johanningmeier, the retired NCAA investigator who conducted the first 50 hours of interviews with Shapiro, and bonded with him over the intensity of having Nevin Shapiro in your life. (Your phone rings on the golf course, and it’s Shapiro, Johanningmeier told my colleague Pete Thamel.) Of course he had an agenda, Johanningmeier told me: “To us it’s not relevant if he has an ax to grind. The point is, What are your facts and are they correct? Nevin falls into that category.

“Is he basically telling a true story? Yes. Is there some embellishment? Yes too.”

Oh

The bold part is key because that part about self-corroboration would not fit into the category.

I saw James Van Der Beek get free beer at a gas station did the NCAA take away his eligibility? Permian players also went to a strip club for free before a big game how come no one went after their scholarships

We all know the flaws with the NCAA investigation and the "reporting" of SI. The problem is that the mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging troglodytes who read that bird cage liner are not smart enough to understand the infirmities of the NCAA and that shytrag of a magazine so the well of public opinion is poisoned against UM. Fortunately, the COI isn't comprised of the retarded masses who read that shytrag.

I think some of those knuckle-dragging troglodytes are canes fans.

Hypothetical question would it be an NCAA a violation if the UM female track and basketball team got free drinks at the bar? Cause most ladies don't pay a dime for drinks when out.

No its not a NCAA violation if romanic intentions can be proven so if its can be proven Nevin is *** and hitting on our players we skate

The thing that ****es me off the most is Shapiro said "miami cant even get into a bidding war with the sec" in refference to recruiting. Thats when the major story broke out. Will someone explain to me HOW IN THE **** there able to make that statement go unnoticed? The ncaa is treating
Us like the dirtiest program in the country, yet the same source accusing us just told you we're nowhere near as dirty as the sec. Wheres there 2 year investigations? Wheres there bad publicity in the media? Such b.s. man.

UM president Donna Shalala and a group of about a dozen other staffers — including football coach Al Golden, basketball coach Jim Larranaga and athletic director Blake James — flew to Indianapolis early Wednesday afternoon in preparation for the hearings. Former UM basketball assistants Jorge Fernandez and Jake Morton and former receivers coach Aubrey Hill, who face individual charges, were also seen pacing around the hotel where the meetings are scheduled to take place.

Of course they regurgitated the SI article. The Herald needs to be burned to the ground. Should have known better than to have clicked, only thing of interest was what you pasted.

Only good reporter they have is Barry Jackson.

So of course they have facking Manny covering it.

claiming every other school does the same thing (while it's true) won't help us at this point.

just got to hope that if the punishments are too severe, Shalala will pull some strings to throw **** BACK to the NCAA.
