Manny Navarro on Guidry

To be fair, we've gotten incrementally better at each coordinator spot each time.

So...I'd assume we can get incrementally better again?

Dawson will be in some HC decisions this offseason, for sure. Whether he gets one or not is another story.
if he know what's good for him, he better jump at a stepping stone job, cam has made him look better than he is

I was going to say the same thing. Kevin Steele came from the old establish roots in strong conferences and programs and historically always had a good defense. He just runs a defense that has equal to, or greater talent then who he's playing and he'd do fine. He was good from his Clemson stop in 2009 all the way to Alabama after us.

Just got hired at a time we didn't have any horses and had a offense where the defense have to keep us ion the game. The fundamental and schemes were solid, but didn't run gimmickery type defense like Manny Diaz, which only works for so long.

His defense you have to play good balanced football with good players, assuming you have equal or greater talent. Then you'd have to rely on the ability of the OC. A la UGA, Alabama, OSU, etc.

Were at a point now in the program because of talent acquisition we can begin to start running more conventional NFL style defenses
Good stuff

I remember one of his interviews before we played MTSU and at first I thought it was just ya know, coach speak giving the other team credit. But the more I watched I was like **** I think this dude is genuinely worried about our players and this game

“I’m too old for this ****” probably was said quite a few times that year

We are not taking the next step as a program with a d coordinator who is schematically as flawed as Guidry. Mario knows that and will make decisions accordingly. If he’s shown one thing in his mediocre tenure here it’s that he will move on from coaches in a respectful manner by allowing them to get a job. Guidry will be the same when that time comes. My guess is it’s this year unless the bye week was truly a wake up call
But does he? And what evidence do you have that he will make a strong hire - the 3rd time around?

Any names of potential candidates? No teams seem to have a great DC and Manny at Duke isn't available. Especially no DC in the ACC aspires to greatness, how about Indiana Bryant Haines? or ND Al Golden....both have top 5 defenses.
lol this was good, thanks

My thoughts on Guidry are that every week during his press conference he just smiles and repeats what he has said in previous weeks.

Something to the effect that it takes us a few quarters to adjust to what the offense is doing because we prepared for xyz and that by the third quarter we start playing better etc.

Dude, it’s your job to have the defense ready at the start of games!

We are not in a position to wait until the third quarter anymore and we’ve had the same issues going on 2 months.

How about you scheme something that their offense isn’t ready for, for a change. Now that would be refreshing.

Don’t want to sound negative going into such an important part of the season but I have kept hoping something good can happen on defense for the last 7 or 8 games, yet nothing changes.

Hoping the bye week can create some sort of miracle on D, starting vs Wake.
"How about you scheme something that their offense isn’t ready for, for a change"

Yep. stop telling us how the other team did things they haven't done all season and weren't on the tape. Let's surprise someone!!!

There's too much smoke. Seems like Mario will be looking for a new DC this offseason

If it's true, I hope we look @ Geoff Collins at UNC. Hes a Former P5 HC and SEC DC who's worked with Mario at FIU (he was Mario's DC there)

Your first problem is clinging to the "we have more talent" myth that has plagued irrational Miami fans for 20 years.
agree, certain spots very good, certain spots LB, CB, safety not so much.....& groups that seem above average OL & DL seem to be just OK

Spread rumor that Aranda was actually behind the issues at Baylor and not Briles, and then bring him in as DC. Sure he wasn't there then, but you never know which nut job in the media would run with it

Navarro is just like the rest of Miami's local reporters - no sources, no inside info, never break news, no interesting insights, no relationships with staff beyond asking questions atpressers.

They all do the same thing - recycle quotes any one of us can watch on YouTube, report who is warming up pregame, provide "how and when to watch the game" articles, offer their predictions, and react to the same **** we see.

Clearly not into doing anything to create plays to just create plays (i.e., overload one side while the other side is ripe for a gash play) and make that the fundamentals of his defense. Which is what Manny Diaz do and Guidry.
These style of defenses are great for 1st year DCs. They utilize fundamental talents the previous coach left (and they probably got fired cause they did it the right way and ppl don't have patience) good tackling etc. and they're system works great because no one has film on them to a vast extent. Then year two comes along and now the book is on them, they have a whole set of coaches from every college studying them and the jig is up.
This isn't limited to defense either offense is the same way. Art Briles and Jeff Heupel (i.e., Baylor and Tennesee) they came in hot, then they got copied as well. But once you face a team that has better talent then you or equal and plays fundamental defense, or at least a defense that's been coached well (i.e., play cover 4 and attack quick WR screens and stop IZ with the front 6 and handle the speed they play at) they don't do well. Hence the most successful offense and defense play balanced fundamental football with proper alignment and adjustments to whatever the offense and defense throws.
The game is simple, line up in the proper spot, know your job and smash some skulls.

I'm sure Mario will interview several posters from CIS for the vacancy. there's no shortage of quality options here.

I'm available.
