Look to the Transfer Portal: Discussion thread

After the first wave of Miami Portal this is my order of needs. 1 & 2 are in the bag pretty much so I put them at the top

  1. Xavier Lucas
  2. Center (James Brockermeyer)
  3. Quarterback - 1 starting
  4. 1 Inline Te
  5. 1 Wr starting
  6. 1 DE (depending if Mesiodor stays)
  7. 1 Nickel CB or boundary
  8. 1 Safety depth or starting
  9. Running back 1 depth
  10. Guard (depending on spring performance)

Wonder why, if Ewers isn’t good enough for Miami, that Sark is putting his championship shot in jeopardy by starting him, especially with the gawd Manning on this sidelines? One would think Sark knows better than anyone how good Ewers is.

There is a minimum of 5 posters on CIS who have a better grasp on Ewers QB performance than Sark

My biggest issue with going after Ewers is having visions of all the excuses we will have to listen to because we couldn’t afford to address other needs

we might need 2 RBs. If Martinez leaves we will only have 4 backs. Last season we had 6. Then again we could slide Loften back there. Agree with ur list.

I feel like the staff should be back-channeling the other former 5 star SF receiver if that ship hasn’t sailed. Would profile as a perfect replacement for Restrepo in the slot. Don’t think Inniss is known as a burner but neither was X and Inniss is taller and (probably) faster. By all accounts, possesses similar work ethic/leadership traits. Dealt with injuries and behind Egbuka but 14 catches in 2 years… Ohio State’s brought in like 6 bluechip guys including JJ Smith since. Could kickstart his career in an offense where he’d potentially lead in targets/catches for 2 years.

Your very close here. A couple of those we could get by without, but really need. I would take 2 WR. That is a spot we have not procrastinated on. They just missed or couldn't get them in. Asking price debatable. I think one has to be a slot. I would take Rutherford. A vet LB who can run and tackle. Biggest need, known since before last season, a true Nickel. We have signed 4 players.

My re-ranking
  1. Quarterback - 1 starting
  2. Xavier Lucas
  3. 1 "true" TE (can both block inline and receive)
  4. +1 DB starting
  5. Center (James Brockermeyer)
  6. 1 WR starting
  7. 1 RB depth
  8. 1 DT depth

QB and DB still top needs in that order, followed by a true TE to replace Williams. After that, we move into luxury / injury insurance mode. I know we want a Center, but we've got enough talent on that OL to find one internally if needed. Doesn't make the "required" list. I also think Daniels plus our 8 roster WRs (6 being 2024/2025 recruits) are enough if we don't find an elite guy better than Brown in the portal.
