Kyron Drones as a potential option (not in portal)

All of those things are true.

And yet look at the results. At least at this point last year, Ward had visited and declared for the draft.

Last year's failure (at this same point) is still more than we have accomplished this year.

So, yeah, maybe we can't just shine Dawson's lofty resume and expect that it will draw QB interest the same way that **** attracts mosquitos.

We had 20 years of **** QB play. We now have a proof of concept.

And its not just Dawson's record...its a combination of things...including the money and opportunity. Mostly the good money.

This class of QB in the portal right now, just not as good as last year's and thats also part of our issue.

I mean, at this point, aren't there literally only a handful of options still eligible to enter? And of those handful maybe 2 or 3 that are realistically possible?

Now this is fair. Not sure if it’s a smarts thing or work ethic. I’ve heard both but I’d lean the latter. Not every qb is obsessed with this like Cam.

If his money year doesn’t wake him up nothing will.
Crap! I didn't know he had a work ethic issue. Oy.

We won't have a proof of concept until we prove we can do it a second time with someone not named Cam Ward. What we have is a pathway through which we can show prospective QBs what the end of the pathway looks like. But right now it's just concept.

I don't disagree on the money and opportunity. Still, all of those things are there, while the results are not.

And to say the QB class is not as good as last year's is a cop-out. Last year, there was a serious drop-off after Ward, at least in regards to individual ability (I am not knocking what Will Howard did with an amazing Ohio Taint team).

This year, there is a serious drop-off after Mateer, who might have been able to replicate something close to what Ward did this past year if he had chosen Miami. There will be a couple of guys who find "right situation" just like Will Howard did.

Essentially, last year's QB class and this year's QB class are nearly identical, with any "last year superiority" being due to the individual greatness of Cam Ward, and not because of the overall QB class.

Crazy seeing a ton of positive takes on Drones after all the dumping that took place on Beck, Ewers, and Mendoza. A lot can change in a few weeks.
To be fair I liked drones since he played Miami earlier in the year but yeah a lot of people did dump on beck, ewers and Mendoza

Similar to Jalen Milroe, Drones could work here but we’d have to mold our system to better suit his skills. We can’t expect those guys to be pass first quarterbacks like Cam or even TVD. We need to lean into the quarterback run game. We could do worse.

No, we would run our normal offense. We molded our system for Cam and his skills. Drones is actually more fit for the offense Mario recruits towards.

With drones, I see us looking like the eagles. Play defense and run the ball. It’s working well for them.

The option isn't Drones or Emory.

The option is any other quarterback, because Emory isn't it either. I've stated before that I think he should straight up transfer.

Its Drones versus the possibility of someone else.

Drones will be better here than in Blacksburg, but I still see a much more limited quarterback. Its not athletic ability or even arm talent...but VaTech rolls him out, makes the reads easy with basic concepts and it just ends up looking like backyard football and VaTech is out there trying to win with rocks and sticks.

In a newer look offense that is more run based, maybe thats fine, but this is a big step back from the expectation (and the expectation wasn't another Cam Ward). I'd have preferred Mendoza over Drones, for example. This would be more along the lines of us getting Maalik Murphy at QB, to me.

The connection to Cam Ward also makes this seem like we're scrambling after another connection to Cam Ward (Mateer) didn't go in our direction. This has some "...what do yall think of my cousin?" to it.
Emory should transfer to the Ivy League. He could start and get a great degree.
