Kyron Drones as a potential option (not in portal)

Are we still just speculating (hoping/praying) or is there some indication that (1) Drones is entering the portal and (2) we’re going to pursue him?

now do your comparison between emory and drones, or people that realistically we have a shot at right now on January 4th and drones
No he was comparing Cam Ward to Drones

I’m good with waiting until the spring window and being patient and not blowing up my season with a pedestrian QB

He would do 100 million times better than Emery Will in our offense and that’s all that matters right now.

The option isn't Drones or Emory.

The option is any other quarterback, because Emory isn't it either. I've stated before that I think he should straight up transfer.

Its Drones versus the possibility of someone else.

Drones will be better here than in Blacksburg, but I still see a much more limited quarterback. Its not athletic ability or even arm talent...but VaTech rolls him out, makes the reads easy with basic concepts and it just ends up looking like backyard football and VaTech is out there trying to win with rocks and sticks.

In a newer look offense that is more run based, maybe thats fine, but this is a big step back from the expectation (and the expectation wasn't another Cam Ward). I'd have preferred Mendoza over Drones, for example. This would be more along the lines of us getting Maalik Murphy at QB, to me.

The connection to Cam Ward also makes this seem like we're scrambling after another connection to Cam Ward (Mateer) didn't go in our direction. This has some "...what do yall think of my cousin?" to it.

certainly struggles with it. Dude hasn't even thrown for 2,000yds in a season
what's funny is, p tizzle said that while he probably watching VT last night and drones didn't even play (so he was talking about the wrong guy)

drones passed for 2100 yards in 2023 (not a ton) but add in a 17-3 td-int ratio and 800 rushing yards, I'd say it's a good year for an ACC QB

but the point is, try to do research

you're right, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think it's getting to the point where the music is almost over and the lights are turning on

Still don't understand why Mendoza wasn't a bigger priority. Youd think if Miami really pursued him strongly he'd absolutely have come home and been our QB. Maybe I'm wrong and he just really wanted to play w his brother but it felt like Miami never really prioritized him

Miami just had a Top 5 QB (maybe R1P1) in the draft. Mario has two Top 5 drafted QBs he has coached. Dawson just produced that same player. Miami has money and their checks clear and have a good reputation.

Someone will be playing for the University of Miami. idk who yet, but we'll have someone.

Recent names like Drones and Maiava do look like the University is digging a bit too deep in the dented can cart...maybe that is just a by product of a less-than-last-year QB market in the portal. Its not Ward, Howard, Gabriel, Leonard, and a bunch of former 5-stars with live arm talent (Rashada, Moore). We're trying to get KJ Jefferson at this point.

c'mon man that's just dumb

receivers are going to eat in Dawson's offense no matter who the qb is, that's a fact over his whole career

here's VT receivers in their caveman offense in 2023 :

I think it's fair to assume that in Dawson's air raid, we'd see better results than this, which allows all those players to avoid becoming "blockers" as you seem to believe may happen
You’re right. I just want QB’s that can sling the ball. That running around s**t drives me insane.

well 1, miami isn't trying for drones (at least not that we know of) - this is a thread of a message board. So I wouldn't make assumptions of what the staff is doing based on what we talk about as "potential options" (in the title of the thread)

I think most agree with you that we'll end up with someone other than emory, but I think it's naive to believe that someone magical will randomly fall in our lap when we're 2-3 days away from the portal closing for all non-playoff teams

can we get ewers, beck, or milroe to nix the draft? who knows

but there's a very realistic chance that we don't get them, gronowski is visiting Iowa and getting predictions there, if leavitt, Robertson, altmyer don't enter - then what? I'll tell you, we'd all be ******* happy with drones at that point

All of those things are true.

And yet look at the results. At least at this point last year, Ward had visited and declared for the draft.

Last year's failure (at this same point) is still more than we have accomplished this year.

So, yeah, maybe we can't just shine Dawson's lofty resume and expect that it will draw QB interest the same way that **** attracts mosquitos.

Everybody that thinks Drones wouldn’t kill it here, I question your football knowledge. No he is not Cam, but if Dawson knows what he is doing he could cook something up with Drones easily. The offense would look completely different and still be dynamic.
