Not a fan of Drones because how bad he was this year but after digging a little bit, seems that was probably mostly how bad the team around him was.

In 2023 he was much better which is what put him in preseason awards watch lists including the Davey O'Brien and Heisman.

In 2023 he was:
166/285 passing (58.2%. so definitely needs to improve there)
2084 yards (7.3ypa)
17 TDs, 3 INTs
137.2 rating

Also added rushing stats:
166 carries for 818 yards (4.9ypc)
5TDs

An improved version of 2023 Drones could absolutely do damage in an offense with:
Better coaching
Better OL
Better receivers
Better RBs

He had a big dropoff in '24 which is concerning but obviously there's some talent to work with based on 2023.

receivers are going to eat in Dawson's offense no matter who the qb is, that's a fact over his whole career

I think it's fair to assume that in Dawson's air raid, we'd see better results than this, which allows all those players to avoid becoming "blockers" as you seem to believe may happen

Cam Ward, uninjured, led WSU to a 5-7 record in 2023.

Kyron Drones, playing through 3 injuries, led VaTech to a 6-7 record in 2024 (though he didn't play in the last couple of losses).

Situation means everything. If a healthy Drones regains his 2023 form behind Miami's 2025 OL, then you've got something.

They’d have to give him the Clayton Tune treatment. Who was completing in the 50’s as a passer. But was a good athlete. Go look at his stats and completion percentage pre Dawson calling plays and post Dawson. Night and day difference . Almost 10 points . He’ll never be a consistent guy with accuracy but I believe Dawson can get something out of him. On top of that he’s a freak athlete.

800 plus yards rushing for a QB in the ACC with a 17-3 td-int ration in 2023 is pretty **** good

my hesitation like many is with how this year has gone, but as many have stated there's context there that at least provides hope that he can produce like he did in 2023

if we have an 800 yard rushing QB with Fletcher/Lyle and this OL + a competent defense then we're a better team than we were this year. Not a better offense stat wise, but better team absolutely

Notre Dame is a very disciplined team, plays all 3 facets of the game, doesn’t beat itself. Thats not Mario’s teams with the constant penalties either
