Seeing is believing but you hire based on the knowledge you have.

Who are the offensive coordinators teams like bama, clemson, Georgia, ohio state go out and get?

That who we are supposed to be going after.
No doubt but HC’s hopefully depend on reliable sources and their own eyes when hiring coaches not a bunch of reporters and fans.

I guess you could say they both coach what are called elite or “explosive” offenses (both top 4 in yards per game), which is why both fields and hurts’ stat lines are more impressive than Herbert’s despite fewer attempts. Also they were both in their first year at those schools and offenses while Herbert was in his 3rd.

Plus hurts had like 1300 yds rushing while fields had almost 500, so I’d say they utilized them pretty well

So Thanks for comparing arroyo to two of the best offensive coaches in cfb. I needed some comic relief today
I never said that about Arroyo. I just pointed out that two well renowned play callers, called less passing plays. Your assertion was that Herbert was underutilized bc he didn’t throw the ball enough. I should have stopped at he was 18th in the country in pass attempts.

Your attempt to change the discussion by bringing in other offensive stats and making up a false narrative doesn’t make you right.

Enjoy your day.

Oh i completely agree.

that doesn't mean coaches know best or even know more than fans that watch coaches week in and week out.

Mario hired gattis even though Michigan fans knew it wasnt his offense. Mario would never go off what fans know but in this case the fans knew more than mario.

The most amazing thing so far in this thread is my old *** realizing that china made flat screens so cheap that dudes are breaking them constantly only to go to Walmart and pick an etech for 150 bucks on sale.

I still recall when a 55 inch plasma in your living room meant you were ballin for real. Never saw a video of a 55 inch plasma being broken back in 2005 cause your team lost. That would be just as stupid as breaking 100$ LED for clicks.
I guess it’s cool to be stupid.

Ohh and also, I’ve never seen a dude that was fired be retained for so long since a dude called manny Diaz was a head coach.

Maybe the number 365 is in the way.
Gattis was officially named as the oc feb 6. Maybe he signed a week or so before.
I would assume the buyout drops after one year. But idk sht.

Mario Cristobal royally failed hiring Gattis but i do not think he was telling Gattis to run whatever or certain percentage of run pass. The issue with Gattis offense for me was not playcalling, it was schematic play designs. The actually designs of alot of his plays were faulty and the calls were had hoc, like random plays being called instead of a ladder building to get the defense into certain looks. We **** near threw 50 passes v UNC and that was early in the season, ACC opener actually. This narrative that Cristobal is telling Gattis to be Paul Johnson is false imo. His fault was taking forever and then hiring Gattis, he needs to fix that. He needs someone who brings instant credibility and body of work to jump start WR and QB recruiting and excite the players on the team. Simple

One of my last weekends in college my crew of buddies only drank Natty Ice for an entire weekend

Natty ice has its time and place, but if you are ever in or around a river, it is unethical to drink any beer other than than Busch. It's river beer.

He worked under Mike Gundy and Todd Monken…. Two well respected coaches. He worked his way up to getting a HC gig which is more than Gattis can ever say.

If we’re going that route I’d rather have Littrell

But Arroyo is being treated like Ponce

Agreed.

I am not saying we should or should not offer/hire Arroyo.

I'm just trying to figure out why some people would lose their sanity if that actually happened.

We’ve entered into the “Arroyo wouldn’t be that bad” phase of Mario’s tenure LOL

You ******* mopes need serious help when you are bashing coaches who you don't even know if Mario has even acknowledged. Over there having nervous breakdowns already. I kind of kid, but honestly you really might want/need psychiatric help.

Lmao. This is what you do. You argue against FACTS. Which is hilarious to watch.

Arroyo is a horrible offensive coach. He was fired from a program in year 3. 3! 3! I repeat 3. The program thst you said has sucked for decades thought he sucked bad enough to fire him before he even recruited 4 years.

You dont have to care what a oregon writer says but that writer is MUCH MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE than you are.

Typical dopiness from you.

"Horrible offensive coach". How? Top 25 scoring offense all three years at Oregon.

And then you talk about his role as a HEAD COACH. As per usual, you have moved the goalposts.

Your analysis is bottom of the barrel. A mixture of buzzwords, false statements, and capitalizing certain words as if that proves something.

Go back to derailing other threads.

For as much some will never agree on the Mario/Arroyo/Herbert debate, one thing that can’t be argued against is that Arroyo inherited a great situation when he took over as the playcaller at Oregon in the weakest defensive conference among the Power 5 at the time.

Oregon’s offense was ranked in the top 20 nationally in both points per game (per ESPN) and yards per play (per NCAA.com) in 2017. Herbert was already a two-year starter and was universally regarded as one of the top returning QB’s in the country before Arroyo became their lone OC.

He inherited a really good offense and they continued to be really good. Many of their fans were vocally opposed to his conservative, plodding pistol having witnessed an astounding 23% of passing plays be designed screens in Herbert’s senior year. You could view it as “they were still really good, so who cares” or you could view it as they kept the Cadillac in the garage and created their own glass ceiling.

Whoever is going to be taking over as our OC is inheriting an absolute s***show of an offense, not an already fine tuned machine. With the money this program is spending now, Arroyo shouldn’t even be a viable consideration. Miami should be the home of innovation and dynamic offense, not the plodding pistol or anything eerily reminiscent of the bulls*** we trotted out a season ago.

You lose a ton of credibility in the very first sentence/paragraph when you call the Pac the weakest defense conference in P5. Have you never watched the Big12?

Arroyo would be a Disastrous hire...more of the same Mario ineptitude. You mean to tell me we've waited 2 months after a 5-7 season with a Historical bad offensive system, and the best we can do is Arroyo??....

I'm not saying it's the best we can do or the worst we can do. I'm not saying we should wait or go faster. None of that.

But you know what's going on, and if we CAN'T land a better OC in the next few weeks, I'm also not going to be suicidal over Arroyo.

You know I always hear you out, how would Arroyo, on his own, be a disastrous hire? Not in terms of "who we could have hired", just in terms of ARROYO himself, who put up 3 years of Top 25 scoring offenses at Oregon.

If Arroyo "works well with others", that's already one attribute that Gattis doesn't have.

this board is a bunch of sheep. if 1 guy says Arroyo sucks then everybody runs with it. herd mentality here. If we can't get Lincoln Riley to come here Mario will be a failure according to everybody on here.

Wait, wait, haven't you heard, ARROYO BLOWS DONKEY ****S! According to the smartest porster in his own head.
