There’s definitely an issue.

Tbh I’ve never heard of a program buying out a coordinator or non head coach to hire them from another program.

They do. I remember FSU buying Clements and I believe Briles out of their deals at Houston. But I remember there was a big back and forth and I think FSU wound up paying less than the full buyout. I guess the rest came out of the coaches' pockets.

But coordinators definitely do have buyouts similar to HCs and if they leave before the end of their contracts, they (or someone) has to pay the buyout.

Garrett Riley has one in his new Clemson deal. If he takes a HC job he can leave anytime, but any other coordinator job, he owes I believe 50% of what is owed to him. Something like that.

So it wouldn't totally shock me to learn Miami paid Michigan at least something to get Gattis out of there. It's not unprecedented.

The whole thing is strange.

From Michigan's angle - why would you give multiple years to a guy you had to "reassign" different duties to? Maybe winning the Broyles Award got Gattis some extension and/or guarantee from the AD?

From Miami's angle - Mario has only had ONE coordinator at FIU/Oregon go longer than 2 years, so it seems ridiculous to give any assistant/coordinator a contract for longer than 2. So if the REAL math on Gattis is "1.8 million for this year, plus whatever is owed from Michigan", it just makes the number bigger, but not impossible.

If this really IS Gattis posturing with "I'll sit out for a year to get all my money", then I'd love to see Dan just fire Gattis for cause (Michigan scandal) and let Gattis hire the same lawyer that Golden used to get HIS full buyout.

you know that i know that you know this is not going to happen. plus, we want gattis to hire the guy that wrote golden's amendment, not the litigator who was hamstrung by the language when he took on the case.

Wait a team is going to pay Miami a buyout to take Gattis away from us? Lmaoooooo

Or is it us trying to figure out his buyout to “fire” him

Fair.

What I WANT to happen and what is likely to happen are probably different things.

Now I'm sad.

Do you remember last year when certain people said don’t worry that it’s taking so long as long as we get the right guy? Pepperidge farm remembers.

I’m having deja vu

I was one of those guys, and I'm one saying the same thing this year.

The problem was, we waited a long time to NOT get the right guy last year.

If we do get the right guy this year, the waiting game isn't the end of the world. But yes this is certainly frustrating as ****.

NGL and I hate to mope, but since Mario has arrived this program has been a **** show in every area besides recruiting and facilities development.

1. Terrible coaching hires on the offensive side of the ball.
2. Issues getting guys to transfer in due to credit issues which I know isn’t a Mario/administration issue but again another issue going on that we never heard about under manny. For me, it shows a lack of preparedness and due diligence that we are even setting up visits with guys before reviewing transcripts and yeah grades take a minute to come through but when you’re dealing with a third year guy, you should be able to tell if things are going to transfer over or not.
3. S & C disaster, never has a team had so many injuries and missed so many recovery timelines
4. Timelines for hiring/firing coaches. We missed out on 5-6 guys last year because of this and are doing the same thing again this year
5. 5-7 record. Enough said there

Still believe in Mario but it would be nice to get some positive momentum in areas other than recruiting and facilities

I agree that something isn’t adding up

Coordinator contracts are usually 2-4 yrs in duration. Gattis was 3yrs into Mich and I was told his initial contract was expired, hence why no one at Mich was sad to see him leave

Even if Miami had to pay something to Mich, which I don’t believe is accurate, what impact would it have now??? They’re two separate contracts

I just texted my guy again in regards to the influx of $$$ we have, and why the buyout couldn't be resolved, and he responded with, "We're paying part of the Michigan salary as well"
We (Mario + Rad) are taking a massive “L” on this acquisition. The ROI is negative infinity.

If accurate, no way to spin this…an absolute clusterfack of a deal.

We've had this under every coach, it just wasn't publicized. Plus, the NUMBER of transfers has skyrocketed, so everyone (not just UM) is having to deal with this more than ever.

The harm in waiting and NOT getting the right guy is amplified versus getting the wrong guy early. This approach has already affected recruiting. Also delays getting a new playbook and system to the guys already on campus. Smaller pool of candidates to choose from. Is there a single advantage to waiting?

I truly believe that Mario's decision to bring B-Mac to Miami, with a co-OC title, put a lot of this in motion. Whether one agrees with bringing their own coaches with them or not, Mario's mistake was not striking a deal with a primary playcaller before he offered B-Mac the WR job. It's much easier to find a position coach with an OC in place, and B-Mac's presence created an awkward dynamic that eventually led to him to bolting when UGA came calling.

Mario then got desperate having to start at square one and eventually gave out an awful contract to Gattis, putting us in the position we're in now.

If we waited to review transcripts before setting up visits people would just be complaining about us slow playing transfers.

Wow, this program/university sure does make some terrible ******* decisions with their hires.

Leprechaun Shalala - Worst **** hire for the sports programs in history
Butch - Revived the program from major sanctions and they let his *** walk.
Uncle Fester - Career long coordinator old as ******* dirt when we were hot and could have probably got a great replacement for Butch.
Cuckhold Blake - Some ***** was a glorifed ticket sales representative
Radio - Hired from a failed regime after hiring a **** consulting company for coaching search
Goldie - Gives an extension after mediocre start because they're concerned he's leaving from Shapiro cloud.
DiMare - Hired from a stale regime only because his daddy was a major donor/board member.
Sylvester - Pays Temple 4 million to rehire their own average DC from another failed regime.
Gatt *** - Pays Michigan to get their OC in name only that had been relieved of duties. Goes on produce one of the worst ******* offenses seen since leather helmet days.

20+ ******* years of disasters. Unbelievable

It’s been tough to remain a fan. The lone shining light has been hoops which is just hilarious given the mediocre history from that program prior to L. Baseball Program is in complete shambles. I guess I have hope in football program but can’t say I would bet on miami to be anything more than a consistent 8 win program a decade from now
