That's because there is still a business to run. You can't run without a CFO or a Director of XYZ or fill in the job in many cases. There is nothing for an OC to do right now besides recruit, and he hardly has been doing that.
people have to stop comparing this to their business world lol. it isnt the same and doesn't operate the same way

Gattis is the WR coach and OC.

He doesnt apparently recruit well.

Who is our highest rated WR signee? Rayray - Gattis wasn't the reason he flipped

WR development: I got nothing here

Play calling: lmao -- see above.

Keeping him employed at UM is pure gross negligence.

Gattis saving face allows Mario to save face. And gets him/UM off the hook for the contract. So not only did Mario fail with the OC hire, but paid generously to do so. A replacement will also assuredly be costly. Just because Cristobal has been given resources doesn't mean he isn't responsible for handling them wisely.
Potential problem is if Gattis doesn't land on his feet. Or wants to settle if a new position is for significantly less money. Who knows how much the terms of Gattis's contract change heading into year 2 - February? Just food for thought and hopefully this doesn't drag on. Mario can't really be retaining this guy? Can he?

I don't get how firing a guy for coaching an offense that went multiple games without scoring a touchdown is ****ting on a guy. You fire the guy and say the results weren't good enough. End of. The day after the season ends. That's walking that accountability talk Mario does all the time.
It's a bad look to fire someone after 1 year, not to mention right after they won the stupid Broyles award. Who would want to come be the next OC if you know Mario will fire you after 1 year? Honest question. Gattis (and any other OC) thought he was walking into a dream here - future 1st round QB TVD, easy ACC schedule, stay 1-2 years get P5 HC job. That's all gone. Hard to sell that dream to the next OC now. You're gonna have to pony up huge bucks with big buy-outs/guarantees and make promises Mario probably doesnt want to make (hire your own staff, run the O your way, etc.)

Does Gattis deserve to be fired based on results? Yes of course. But its nowhere near that simple...

How much trouble did Manny have finding an OC when he fired Enos (and rightfully so) after 1 year?

Uhh no one knows. Do you know how many people Manny reached out to and got no's from? He luckily struck gold with Lash. Pretty sure we paid Lash more than any OC at UM before.

I'm 100% for firing Gattis but you all at like there's no potential consequences to firing him asap vs. waiting to get him another job when they're are. It's chess not checkers.

And what if he doesn’t get another job? What if that takes another month, two months? The longer this takes the further behind it puts us for planning for the next season and allows negativity about the offense to continue to fester. We already struggled with wr and qb recruiting in this class and it’s going to start having an impact on the 2024 class as well.

they told Ryan that they got a late start to last year (excuse making lol) and now they want to go in and go early in starting this offseason (imagine waiting 3 months bc optics while losing out on OCs and claim you wanted a head start)

It really IS that simple. You keep Gattis ... you lose more ticket sales, parking and concession revenue than his $1.8 million dollar salary for 2023 and you lose the ability to RECRUIT WR's for that offense you want to run. Gattis simply wanted OUT of Michigan ... bruised ego ... when he didn't even make the list of potential candidates to replace Harbaugh (if) he took the the Vikings job ... it was over. He even tweeted his players "would you stay in a place where you were not wanted?". He grabbed the UM job just to spite Harbaugh and the Michigan administration. The "next" OC sees the opportunity ... sees what Mario wants to build ... and he has his own recruiting relationships as well as staff. Biggest issue is ... Mario ... will he do what is needed or will he continue to strangle the offensive potential with an inept OC at the helm?

Has a coach been hated here so fast?

Enos was hated in his first year but he was let go fast enough that it didn’t fester. D’onofrio I feel like it took a couple years before it got this bad.

You don’t hire someone you can’t fire. Record shows Mario failed with this hire no matter how it is spun.
