God I cringe when that name comes up. Why do we need to hire retreads from failed regimes. When was the last time Coley was part of a prolific offense? If recruiting is his big attribute, that does seem to be a little less valuable under Mario. Can he coach up WR or QBs?

That said, some folks more coaching savvy than me have said that if you have a chance to get Coley back on staff, you do it. Perhaps I’m just snake bitten by his time here as an OC.

At the end of the day, if we got Riley I’ll have full wood. But dang, there has to be other **** wr coaches we can hire. I guess if Riley is ok with it then fine. But I don’t want Coley forced upon him.

How about this. Riley brings over one of his coaches to coach wr, put Coley at TE, and move Field to some Recruiting czar role. I really think our new OC needs to bring someone with him.

There's a list of 10 coaches UM can't help but include in hiring discussions, well 9 now that we hired Mario.

With a #3 recruiting class already I can't see what Coley adds.

Imo if you fire Gattis you have to fire ponce. Your OC needs to be your QB coach. This is a both situation. Hire an OC who coaches QB’s and let the OC bring in a WR coach that knows his system.

Mario fawked up hiring a bunch of random coaches from different systems and expecting 4 coaches that speak different languages to all of sudden be fluent in teaching a language that they don’t even fully know.

I completely agree. Mario tried the Saban approach where he plugs and plays coaches, but we’re not Bama. Your OC should 99.9% be your QB coach, ESPECIALLY if he’s the playcaller. His offensive coaching hires, set the offensive progression back a whole year.

That’s the way majority of hc do it. Usually the coordinator doesn’t hire any assistants. Now they can request to bring in a guy like briles used to with his o-line coach but usually the hc makes the hires

Idk WR was one spot we seemed to miss on our top guys on the board. And that’s no knock to rayray or Robby…

Coley can recruit his *** off and he at least attempted to be a spread forward thinking coach during his time here. If Riley wants him I’m down with it… I just know he’s going to want to bring someone with him
