Issues with coach Mike Rumph

Jesus...so tired of hearing this crap. Rumph is a good coach. Can we stop trying to fire coaches after 1 year of work? Some people need to step away from the ledge.

Rumph lost a longtime, seemingly rock solid commit in Tyler Byrd to Tennessee a year ago. Couldn't beat out Butch Jones AKA Al Golden 2.0. And now he's gone 0-for-4 in head-to-head battles for South Florida DBs to UF, despite having all the advantages in the world to pitch to recruits (depth chart, aggressive defense, improved on-field product).

What makes anyone think this is going to get better next year when we're vying for even better talent (Campbell/Jobe/Hall/Surtain) against dominant programs? Competing against Bama/Clemson/FSU/LSU is a whole different ballgame than going against Tennessee and Florida. Rumph & Banda don't stand a chance against those schools for DBs without UM ties (Frierson & Blades).

Can't wait to see the excuses some will come up with when Rumph fails to land Campbell.

Unless you think Rumph is uniquely talented nationwide as a DB coach there is no reason to think that he couldn't be replaced by someone who has comparable coaching ability and a markedly improved ability to recruit.

The coaches almost speak vicariously through Pete(in regards to recruting). He litterally called for the slander to stop & to watch the finish insinuating we were going were going to land someone we werent expecting. DeeJay followed Richt here probably wasn't considering Miami at all until CMR came, Bandy wanted to be a Cane, Dean you can give credit to Rumph I guess, but i think i read somewhere hes Cooneys cousin.

If all that Twitter nonsense wasnt so prevalent last week so many people wouldn't be calling for the dudes head today.

Bandy was all Cane--he just never had an offer. Losing Henderson and Edwards means failure this year. I don't want to hear any talk of next year's CB class being amazing. Thats a loser's mentality.

Well considering this recruiting cycle is over, talking and planning for next years class is called good strategy, not a loser's mentality.

Unless you want Rumph to flegellate himself after he's publicly tarred and feathered.

It's over. Nobody would say this was a great performance by him, but all that's left now is to make up for it in the next class.

Unless of course you want to spend the rest of the year bïtching about something that's already done.

Fans talking and planning about next year is not strategy. It has nothing to do with anything. It's just people sharing opinions. We have no effect.

I'm evaluating Rumph's recruiting performance this year. This year he failed. He won zero head to head battles (assuming Edwards is gone too). Failure.

I don't want to hear anyone telling me how great next year's class is going to be. Next year's class is next year's class. A lot happens in one year. How did we fare today? Poorly.

It's a fair assessment. It's not b!tching. Maybe I could have used nicer terms in my assessment.

Henderson was committed to us last year around this time for example.

Those expecting great things next year should take a step back. Sure, we'll get our share because there are so many DBs next year but to think we're going to take 8 or however many have been discussed around here is not realistic. Sounds like Jobe is all but Bama's to lose. If we can hold on to guys like Frierson and add guys like Blades and possibly Campbell, that will be enough. We won't get all of the top DBs in the 2018 class.

You're confusing Pete having good sources within the athletic department with the coaches acting like he's their spokesman.

Henderson was always a question mark, even when he was committed. The guys we have in 18 seem much more locked in. But still, a lot can change in a year.

This. A D1 position coaches role is to recruit first and foremost. Anyone with a pulse should be able to coach the technique/tackling/fundamentals. Dumph gets FAR too much credit for the success of the CB's this year (which undoubtedly was a result of a superior system that put them in a position to succeed).

Agreed. Those that are mentally *********ing over the dream class of DBs we'll get in 2018 are likely going to be disappointed.

I wasnt quoting that whole thing & I have no problem eating crow I wasnt exactly sure how it went. That why i said almost vicariously. Point being shouldn't have built him up when the kids in question change their mind like chicks change their clothes. There would be alot less of an angry mob feeling toward Rumph. I hope the dude is successful as our CBs improved vastly under him and our new scheme, but he has to be able to close with elite talent or people arent going to stop calling for his head (and they shouldnt). His job is to recruit. If he is only sufficient at half of his job he needs to get the axe. There are people out there that can teach technique & no doubt can recruit better. The leash has got to be short.

Cry all you want, Rumph is a **** of a coach. You can't force a kid to go to a program they just don't wanna go to. Clemson didn't win the Natty in Dabo's first year, and sure as **** didn't win every crootin battle. We finish with a solid class, why can't some of you "fans" ever just wait and see without crying about things every day on the boards.
