Yeah, I have mixed feelings.

My initial thought is the Santonio Thomas situation because it feels so similar. But you can’t just talk about character and then pounce on the first four star who comes free. We need to do our homework.

If he's a left tackle with dancing bear feet...idk, just pounce.

Unless the man committed a crime we are unaware of, what could have possibly changed between now and October 5th, 2019 that would require anything other than a busy work worksheet for homework?

Also, the COVID situation shouldn't be just combed over here...the man has been there since January and basically had two months of classes before its all been online. That **** sucks - athlete or not - and you're already starting to see students around the country act against some of the nonsense these schools are all about (see Drexel University getting sued).

Imagine being a Miami boy and going to Gainesville, and then not having football and pvssy to lose yourself in while you're in that hellhole.

Would he have to sit a year?
If anyone can get a waiver, this kid likely can. I mean, he was there for 1.5 months. Likely depends on how big a fuss UF makes about him leaving.

Take this with a grain of salt because I'm limited in knowledge on why he's leaving......but I'm not sure this kid fits with the type of kid we're trying to bring in our locker room. If he's got a legit reason for needing to be closer, or something like the "Chris Steele situation" popping off left and right at UF, I get it, bring him onboard........but if it's something like "Oh, I would've chosen Miami but didn't because the scheme-Offensive Coaches etc etc etc", I wouldn't bring him with us. Case being that if Lashlee's O pops, and I really think it will, we'll have him for max 2 seasons...and while I know that CMD will ABSOLUTELY promote Likens/Justice to run the same scheme on O, what if the kid doesn't like something about it? Does he say "this doesn't work for me" again? Idk boys, something about quitting that just doesn't stand right with me (unless it being of extenuating circumstances around him leaving UF)

Sometimes you have to suffer in the present by not bringing on a potential 5* talent, but you reap the benefits because you stick to your guns and build a TEAM.

Does anyone know, without putting the kids personal biz out there, a light version of why the kid is leaving UF?

I might be leaning more towards take now.

Best case scenario-we win some games and he solidifies himself as a starter

Worst case-Kids character sucks just like most the guys on our squad and diaz is out the door quicker

I agree with the vetting 1000% but who said anything about him starting? He is a talented OT that could be a multi year starter for us and potentially change the outlook of the room but no one is saying start him next season. Atleast I haven’t seen anyone say that.
Everyone saying he’s an upgrade over a current starter is pretty much saying he should start. He probably is an upgrade over some of the guys who are competing for starting spots but we need a guy who can come in now and hold down a tackle position for the 2020 season. It’s always good to bring incoming line talent that can help for 2021 and beyond but the immediate need for someone in 2020 is glaring.

Agreed, but when given the option between a blue chip tackle for the next 3-4 years or a rental on a guy coming off a ACL injury who was a good P5 starter...

Idk sht about coaching. But I wonder wtf you guys are smoking asking another freshman to start at left tackle. I know he was rated way higher than Nelson but he’s still a freshman. Unless Orlando Pace is walking into that locker room don't ask for a true freshman to bench anybody at left tackle. Zion didn’t bench anybody we just didn’t have the bodies. Ask him to back him up and as the season goes on if he balls then he takes his spot and even that is unlikely imo. Next year we have a **** battle for that spot for real with 3 dudes that can compete or rotate at that spot. That’s a luxury we haven’t had.

If Manny is butthurt over a kid not signing with Miami after a 6-7 season with losses to FIU and La Tech, he’s a bigger bytch than I thought. Swallow your pride and improve your team.. Every kid isn’t “bashing” Miami because they don’t want to play for a program that looked atrocious most of last year. Get this kid here

If we can make it work, sure. Not over the Houston kid though. Let's win NOW. Make him wait until the fall if he wants in bad enough. At some point, this staff has to stand their ground. Don't be begging for sloppy seconds.
