If we hire Petrino...instead of wearing the white button down and tie on game day, do we fans show up in a neck brace to support coach?

Lamar Thomas works for Petrino at WKU.

Lamar has been in miami a lot recently as a recent inductee to the UM sports hall of fame.

That connection could get the ball rolling.

I'd FAP in public.

He's the best candidate out there.....please let this happen.

I remember when UM played Loserville about 10 years ago at the OB when Shannon was regarded very highly as a DC, and we were still rolling. Petrino brought a freshmans backup QB (Brohm) into the OB, and he absolutely toyed with Shannon for 4 quarters. Receivers were wide open the entire night. It looked like a Goldens defense out there, and this was when we were still riding high.

From that point on, I dreamt of what OG could do here with the talent he'd have access to. Holy **** he'd kill here. That gift is sitting there waiting for us to grab him.

Actually their senior QB. LeFors carved us up, and then got hurt with them up 31-27 and didn't come back in and Brohm finished the game.

Petrino will NEVER be the HC for a major college program for a few more years.

Yes, he's a great football mind.

Yes. He's a public relations nightmare.

Couldn't disagree more...his time is coming and if not with us someone is going to snatch him up soon.

He is HANDS DOWN the best HC out there. I don't even call hiring him "taking a chance" cause as I've said before, the combination of his scheme/gameplanning with south florida calibre talent would be lethal.

I'll gladly take every public relations nightmare which has ever been imagined in return for having this guy coach my Canes. We've had 3 **** poor hires in a row...it's time to swing for the fences.

I'm going to say this regarding the Butch vs Petrino thing...

Petrino should be #1, Butch should be #2 but there is a GAP there. He's a beast when it comes to evaluating and recruiting talent....but he's not a great gameday coach. Even if he puts together another talented squad you need a good X's and O's guy to win in today's game.

Think back to the 2002 Fiasco bowl before you even attempt to argue this. Yes yes...we got screwed on the call, but the game never should have been that close with the talent that was amassed on that Canes team. Ohio State had no business being within 14-17 points of us. **** poor coaching can drag down even the MOST talented teams.

For as much as we all adore that 2001 team...Coker ALMOST found a way to lose with that team to BC. That's the problem with bad coaching....you're relying so much on elite talent that when they inevitably have a "bad day" the scheme can't bail you out.

Petrino should be target #1-7. If after trying everything we can't get him THEN the Butch call should be made. But I for one want to see a dynamic, well coached, schematically exciting team for the first time in 20 years. Have the rest of the staff be filled with top notch recruiters. Let Petrino and a good DC (which Petrino is smart enough to leave alone and let do his thing) worry about the X's and O's.

You combine that with the calibre of athlete we are priviledged to here in South Florida and you have the recipe for DOMINANCE.

Petrino, all day. Not even close.

My sentimentality makes me want to say Butch, but my want to win A.S.A.-******-P. and my memories of 'Botch' on game day tip the scales in favor of endless soup, salad, and breadsticks.

Petrino and it isn't even close........and I hate the guy.

Access to easy recruiting is one of the primary advantages here already, which means that one of Petrino's biggest disadvantages would be marginalized. Petrino's baggage is personal which simply isn't nearly as big a deal to the Shalala camp as Academics/NCAA as well. He is a better fit than Butch.

Travis Rudolph and Johnnie Dixon would be falling all over themselves to play in Petrino's offense.

I would love to see Petrino groom Coley to be his successor.

Agree but he's gotta retain him first and I hope to god he would

Where does that put Miami when Petrino finally gets offered by the $EC in 2-3 years??? No way he would stay!

That is the main reason I would want Butch. I think he'd be here for the long haul.

First of all by 2-3 years down the road I would predict Petrino would have had a TON of success here....the SEC probably wouldn't be as appealing.

But guess what? If he goes...fine.....we would have just had 2 GREAT YEARS. You move on and make another GOOD HIRE.

How's that for an original thought? Live in the now...worry about the future (which you can't control or predict) tommorrow. Bottom line we need to get back on the RIGHT TRACK. Petrino puts us on that track going 100 miles an hour.

And when you look back at our last 3 hires...all 3 looked like guys who could stay here for a long time, but guess what happens when you don't win...you don't get to stay.

So yeah...give me the close to sure thing.

And we're still waiting... Al just leave and crawl back to the MAC. I'm sure you're not PSU's first choice anymore and you're no longer welcome here...
