Hazing and Bullying

My whole thing is that he didnt have to fight Incognito but he couldve stood up for himself and tell Incognito to kiss his *** or "Naw im good" or even a simple "No". No body forced Martin to do anything, **** nobody cant force anyone to do something. Martin is a grown *** man not a little boy.

Im sorry I really feel like some of the guys on here are hypocrites. Half of you guys on here is no better than Incognito. You guys gets on twitter, facebook, and other social media sites and harass high school kids just because they didn't sign with our school. Some of you even tells kids on our team to kill themselves just because they played poorly or costed us the game. The guys that do that is every much of a bully and a low life as Incognito.

Again im not sticking up for Incognito I hope that ************ choke on a chicken bone and die. However I am sticking up for the players on the miami dolphins team. And before you can tell them they needs to change their ways or that they're cowards, the people who harass and bully kids through media needs to change their ways.

Very true. If you noticed, I've never blasted a kid for not picking us.

I know this isn't directly related to the Canes, but it can apply in a friendly discussion. I was at Dolphins yesterday covering the Incognito-Martin story, and the entire team was backing Incognito, believing that Martin was being too "soft". But when you look at the things that were said and the past history, it's hard to believe that anybody can back a guy who is clearly a racist, a bigot and a bully. So my question to you guys, as I always love to get different opinions to help me get a feel for how others see it, what are your thoughts on bullying within a team, in the locker room, on the field, financial hazing, etc..? And it can be Canes related or not. I'll probably do more of these as we go along, but if you guys don't want em, just let me know and I'll stop. Thanks

Provides some insight as to why Martin did not feel comfortable speaking out. He obviously felt as though he had no support within the locker room and the management seemed oblivious. Any man worth their salt would not sit back and allow this type of bullying to occur. Unacceptable. Bottom line is no one should have to put up with this **** on the workplace.

I find it interesting that guys like Wallace and Williams have come out in Incognito's defense.
Then I read where Martin's HS coach said he was soft in HS, like another poster mentioned, both guys seem like they were extreme in their personalities.

Again, Icognito is a psychopath. And not just in terms of his rage. The guy is super weird and bipolar. He's got substance abuse issues, which magnify his imbalance. I wish I could elaborate on a few stories, but they implicate friends, so I won't. Sufficed to say, no one on here should even remotely support him. He's not a good guy and I can only imagine how bad he stalked and harassed Martin. He's the type of guy I despise most in this world -- dumb, juiced out bully who draws his self worth from intimidating and embarrassing weaker people. And not just players. When he's out, he tries to intimidate smaller, weaker people but then proceeds, like a b@tch, to kiss the *** of the guys who roll with hot chicks or own the bars/clubs. He treats support staff like sh@t, too, which is one of my biggest pet peaves. And no one is talking about the obvious -- what type of loser repeatedly milks others to cover his tabs, trips, and binges? Talk about a complete lack of self respect. You're a god **** millionaire and you're willingly taking $$$ from a rookie for a trip when the guy isn't even joining you? F@ck that guy. He'll be two bit bouncer within 3 years.

But somehow every player they've interviewed that has played with him defends him

Watch the TMZ video of that f*cking idiot at Blondies. That's very representative of who he is and how he acts regularly when he goes out. I don't give a sh*t what a few Dolphins say publicly; privately they know he's a raging, bipolar psychopath. He needs to be medicated and in intensive therapy rather than on the f*cking leadership council of that abomination of an organization. The fact that he and Pouncey somehow became leaders in that locker room is all you need to know about the character of that team.

This. Mind you pouncey openly supported that idiot Hernandez in his trial and he's become embroiled in it as well. If those are leadership guys it's shows how facked that organization is to the core

I don't think Incognito would make a good leader, but the things that are being said by current and former players doesn't make it sound like this was some kind of big problem. The fact that Martin never went to anyone about it or stood up for himself kind of reinforces that idea.

I don't think Martin wants to play football, but he wants to keep getting paid.

martin might be soft but he was soft when the organization drafted him. its the coaches job to "toughen him up", not the players job. as someone else said the last guy you want "motivating" the softer or mentally weaker guys is the craziest, meanest most volatile cat on the team. not a good mix. if the player is not cut out or too soft for the league the organization needs to deal with that situation. its unacceptable for his "co-workers" to take it upon themselves or to be used by management for that purpose. nothing good can come of that in the end.

if a guy like ray lewis sits you down and has a man to man about the toughness needed in the league to excel thats one thing, but threatening, abuse, and petty pranks are only going to alienate and scare the guy, not help him.

Seems to me like you're making a lot of assumptions about him considering a few of his teammates have come out in support of him.
Granted he's got some issues, but I think you could say that about a good number of guys in the NFL. Let's see how this thing plays out.

Didn't read all the comments but I'll give my opinion. I have never like others picking on the weak, I would have taken the other guys side. If he tried to come after me, I'd be picking up anything close to me and beating him with it. If the guy wasn't playing up to the standards they want, trade him, don't abuse him. That hazing is just like the foolishness that goes on in colleges. I think most of those who do it are weak, mentally. Who in their right mind would put up with BS like that? I have never been a follower, just not in my genes, I
'd rather fight a hundred times rather than deal with someone trying to bully me. The first thing I would have said to that big dumb *** is go F yourself, he might beat me the first time, but not the next time, you can bet on that.

Chip, do you know if Martin kept a written account in his diary of everything that happened?

If he did, that could be bad for Incognito.

Not sure, but I bet he has it ready for when the NFL calls him for any evidence against Incognito.

I'm not assuming anything. I've seen his behavior first hand several times. I am not saying that some Fins' players don't support Icognito. I know that Pouncy and Odrick love him. And I also know that both think he's a raging lunatic -- from Pouncey's own mouth. What I am saying is that guys like you have no idea how truly unstable this guy is. If you did, then you might understand why Martin was hesitant to stand up to this guy, especially since he had the locker room behind him. Let's see if his exploits in NY this summer come to life. I am not disappointed in Ignognito -- I think the guy has a mental disease and absent real intervention is a lost cause. I honestly don't think he can control his actions absent medication and continued therapy. What really ****es me off is that no one in that locker room had the character to put that guy in his place; not a single veteran even objected to other veterans repeatedly fleecing rookies for their own personal binges and parties. That's really f*cking pathetic.

Fellas I'm getting the nod again to go to Dolphins camp with WPLG. I probably won't be able to ask much since both Will Manso and Victor Oquendo will be out there too, but I'll keep my ears open to anything that might be important. Stay tuned.....

Piggybacking on all of the above, which is spoken like a true MD-JD co-doctorate, is this:

If the Dolphins were concerned they needed to toughen up Jonathan Martin, it runs counter to what one pre-draft psychological profile said about him.

Alex Marvez of FOX Sports obtained a copy of Martin’s test report provided to teams from Human Resource Tactics, a North Carolina-based firm which several NFL teams use.

Its personality profile of Martin described him as a potential leader, and potentially the guy used in the role he’s accusing Richie Incognito of holding.

“Martin’s mental ability test results are consistently positive,” the report said. “His matrices data place him well above the minimum typically associated with his position.

“He is not afraid to say what is on his mind if things are not going as they should. He is likely to be seen as a team enforcer if his level of play lets him assume this role.”

Source.

It's quite clear the guy is mentally unstable, and it shouldn't take a psychiatrist to spot that after the TMZ video. Agree that the worst part is other veterans both complicit and defending his actions. Incognito gon Incognito, he clearly has neuropsychiatric issues to address, but the others? Pitiful. Gutless even.

When leadership around you fails, you have to take matters into your own hands, which might be exactly what Martin wound up doing. Keeping such an issue in-house, when the inmates are running the show, may have in the long-run gotten multiple people straight killed, judging by the toxic atmosphere and Incognito's ten year behavioral history.

People want to argue that Martin should've went to Philbin first? Fine. That's a discussion worth merit, but in light of the possibility that the staff may have Code Red him, the entire thing is a s***show.

Firstly, this had nothing to do with the locker room atmosphere. Martin was not being hazed he was being bullied which is a HUGE difference.

Second, I would've blindsided Incognito with my helmet in the locker room if he had tried some **** like that on me. But as far as Martin, he should of stood up for himself. He is a grown *** man Incognito cant make him do **** if Martin did not want to do it.

Third, I felt like his teammates did not know how serious the situation was and to be honest I don't see what they could have done to stop Incognito from harassing him due to the fact no one can stop a bully from bulling someone without higher authority.

Finally, Incognito can go to **** and Martin is a freaking punk. Not because he didnt fight but because he did not stand up for himself and how he handled the situation terribly. Not only because he abandoned his team the way that he did but because he did not tell proper and higher authorities about the situation.

Bull****. The kid's a rookie. He was in an extremely difficult position w/ incognito being a team leader, bc in his mind, the team supports this sort of abuse. And you cannot reasonably expect a rookie to stand up to the entire organization.

and ****, incognito is a known thug. Martin very well may have been concerened that Incognito would have blindsided him and potentially injured him, if he fought back.

He's not a rookie...he's in his second year

You seem to be pretty emotional about this, how do you supposedly know so much about Incognito?

If Incognito hadn't dropped the N bomb this is a non-story. Martin is a big ****** baby he shoulda popped Richie in his **** gobbler if he was offended. he's a ****** ***** and should get cut cause he's ****** up the team wit his cry baby bull****
