Tears Gator Tears

Here's the thing, the money HAS been very substantial in the past.

BUT...

Neither school went broke when they had to move 2 games to home-and-home when Jax renovated the stadium for the Jags.

And now that the SEC payout is sooooooo high (and regardless of where games are played), you are not really seeing the same impact on each school's budget.

Here's the funny thing...the more schools the SEC adds and the bigger the TV contract gets, the higher the SEC payout gets. But what can Jax do to every increase the payout for Florida-Georgia? Double the ticket price? It's a god**** SEC game, there's no extra TV money for holding the game in Jax. So, someday, some way, the total impact the Florida-Georgia has on each school's athletic budget...will get smaller and smaller, particularly when you know you have a very nice revenue offset by going back to home-and-home.

Look there's only ONE way this works: SEC goes to 9 games. 4 home, 4 away, and ONE permanent-rivalry game at a neutral site:

Jax - Florida-Georgia
Birmingham - Alabama-Auburn
Dallas - Texas-OU
St. Louis - Mizzou-Arkansas
Houston - aTm-LSU
Memphis - Tennessee-Vandy
Charlotte - South Carolina-Kentucky
New Orleans - Ole Miss-Mississippi State

It's like a barnstorming tour. Take all these rural hick towns to the big city for one big night. You could either do it all on the same weekend, or space one game per week, and try to get GameDay to pick as many of those games as possible, since those venues rarely get a regular-season college game of this magnitude.
I feel like you guys are putting way too much thought into this. uf is afraid to play at UGA. See? Simple.

Sorry, man, nothing personal, there just aren't too many arguments that I hate more than "it's always been this way, we can never change it".

The game has changed. The economics are different. This is why almost every OTHER neutral site game has died (and I'm not talking about the one-off kickoff classics). I'm talking about every-year rivalry games held in a stadium that does not constitute home-and-home. Nearly extinct.

And to think that Kirby is going to sign off on some loss of competitive advantage (one less marquee game he can invite recruits to) for a measly one million dollars bump is just silly when schools are now arranging to pay incoming freshmen MORE than a million dollars, without any proof (yet) of what they can deliver for that money. Schools will set money on fire if it can improve their chances of winning a title.

Fvck tradition. The "tradition" is apparently built on the foundation of ongoing 2-year contracts, which is not exactly a brick foundation.

Time for Kirby and UGa to grow a pair and do what they have been too cheap to do before, but can afford to do so now that they have a $100M annual SEC payout lingering on the horizon. Kinda makes the "ONE MEEEEEEELLION DOLLARS" number from Jax...not so compelling...

God **** that was well said. Couldn't have been more spot on. Well done.

Do you see how many traditions have been ****ted on. Teams just canceling series, jumping conferences etc. I will say this the NCAA is responsible for the demise of CFB.

I liked when they had all the conferences, Big East, ACC, SEC, BIG 12, BIG 10, PAC 10 etc. All they had to do was give each of those conferences an automatic bid to a playoff and 2 at large bids. Genie out the bottle now.
Had they done that, you might still have teams jumping conferences, but the result would be more even distribution. Teams that always end up number 3-5 in their conference might look to go to a weaker conference where they have a better shot at #1. So instead of everybody with any talent being in 1 or 2 conferences which is what we're heading for, there would be a reason to keep teams spread out. But of course, the NCAA doesn't care about football or any other sport, just money.

I don’t think FL/GA being played in Jax is some sort of untouchable sacred cow. For 1.2mill? Kids are getting that in NIL.

Traditions are being broken. NCAA and others have ruined what we grew up with. It’s a new game. I love playing FSU every year. But if we get to go to the SEC or B1G without them and they aren’t on the schedule, then adios. We need to do what’s best for us during this critical time. If Kirby wants out of that venue it could very well change come renewal time imo.

Y'all acting like i'm saying it SHOULDN'T change; never once did I say that so if I did say that, please point it out.

What i'm saying is that game ain't leaving Jax so all this talk is just moot especially since it ain't gonna happen until the current contract is up if it was going to move.

Facts bro. Every team would know win your conference, you in. Then you have the cushion of if a conference has two top rank teams, the 2nd team can compete with the G5 schools for the 2 at large bids.

I was even thinking about it, what has moving to the SEC done for Mizzou? They had top ranked teams in the Big 12. What has Vandy done being pummeled in the SEC? What has moving to the BIG done for Rutgers and Maryland who both had good seasons in the Big East and ACC respectively. The more you think about it the more you realize conference consolidation is not a good thing and part of the reason if we have to, i rather we go to the BIG. Being in the SEC is not gonna be some magic pill to winning.

Do you even see a scenario where after the supersize conferences start, certain teams dislike what actually results and break away to form their own thing again?

Don't matter what he or Kirby Smart wants, the game ain't leaving Jacksonville in our lifetime so idk why they keep bringing this up. Jax will do everything to keep the game in Jax and that's going to be what happens.
Call a spade a spade man!

If the game was in Atlanta every year instead of Jacksonville, Billy wouldn’t need to coach the game first before giving his thoughts.

Just say you want to keep the advantage while hurting your rival. It is pretty easy to see but he loses credibility when he says stupid **** like that.

You certainly didnt say that my man. We are just giving you a hard time. You know what thread you are in. Our arguement I think is more in general (rather than with you) that

1. Jax is not an even playing field
2. Its not a tradition that cant be broken
3. It doesnt even make much logical/financial sense anymore
4. It does seem more realistic that a change can happen than you initially indicated about not in our lifetime
5. Most fun for Gator Tears....Billy wants no part of playing in Athens.

It also hurts Florida too... thats why I was saying why wouldn't they want to be able to host recruits on campus for a big game??

I would be ****ed if Miami and FSU decided to play in Orlando every year... I love the home and home

Cause they don’t have any 🤷‍♂️

They’ve calculated that they have a better advantage at winning the game because it’s basically a home game for them even though it’s lost opportunity to host recruits.

Florida wants it to stay there. Billy is being disingenuous.

All this is opinionated

Time to change the name of the Florida Gators to the Florida Meows...

They haven't played any OOC away games since 1990...

At least other SEC teams are willing to play home and homes with good teams

we played Michigan in the Kick-Off Classic in 2017 but yea, we haven't played a road OOC game since Syracuse in 90. That'll change in 2023 when we go to Utah. I'ma go to that one.

Thinking of like spending Wednesday through Friday in Vegas or Denver, then either flying or driving to Utah.
