Tears Gator Tears

its like texas-OU. its always played in Dallas.

Sorry, I had to laugh a little when Texas-OU is cited in a post about tradition lol. They dumped the Cotton Bowl as soon as they could get some more $ from Jerry, and now OU and Texas literally dumped their conference. "Tradition" is dead. Money is driving everything. Which is why if I were UGA I'd try for the JAX/ATL alternating model I suggested if they want to keep the $ aspect of it. I hear you though, it's all a bummer.

I know its split 50/50. But that doesn't mean that there isn't a massive convenience advantage for UF fans, and it doesn't mean that that location advantage doesn't continue into the after market. You think every ticket that is distributed gets used by the fan that bought them? There are already tons of tickets for the game on Stubhub and on scalper sites, all available to anyone from any team. Those numbers will grow as we get into the fall. It's dumb. The only reason this is still happening is money. Just money.

Also, not sure about 2025. Did something happen recently? This quote is from June 1, 2022:

Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks: “We’re not in the discussion of that right now,” Brooks said. “We signed a deal a few years ago with an option for two more years (through 2023), we haven’t gotten into the weeds on that yet. We’ll discuss that at a different time. It just hasn’t been on our radar right now with other pressing matters.”

Lets keep it a bean, UGA only piping up about this because it’s their turn in winning in this rivalry more recently.

Never heard this chatter when they were getting that work from 90 till 2017 in this rivalry.

If this game was played every single year in Atlanta Georgia, going back to the 1930's, even with the tickets and revenue being split 50/50, I promise you that every single gator fan would cry foul.

Jacksonville just isn't a neutral site.

I have a buddy who is a Florida fan, (I know I know... gross) and we used to talk about this exact thing.
When I asked him straight up: "If you keep every single aspect of this game EXACTLY the same, but move it to and keep it in Atlanta, is it still a neutral site game?"... he kinda chuckled and said yes but with a big ol smirk on his face.

He knows it's not neutral, they all know it's not neutral.

Rotate back and forth between Atlanta and Jacksonville every year. That would be AWESOME.

they're not gonna move that game. there's too much tradition in doing it in jax. that game has withstood countless coaches from both sides. it'll continue to do so when they're gone too. I also think it is a cool thing that its done in neutral site. I liked when we played UF at a neutral site too. diff energy. it'd be cool to do a home and home but the neutral site games are fun too
Do you see how many traditions have been ****ted on. Teams just canceling series, jumping conferences etc. I will say this the NCAA is responsible for the demise of CFB.

I liked when they had all the conferences, Big East, ACC, SEC, BIG 12, BIG 10, PAC 10 etc. All they had to do was give each of those conferences an automatic bid to a playoff and 2 at large bids. Genie out the bottle now.

A lot of the gator fans don't have to pay for hotel being so close. Also heavy **** area in Jacksonville where they can hop in a cab and go hang out

I mean I don’t give a shlt where they play it, let them kill each other. But somebody trying to tell me that’s a neutral site, don’t **** on me and tell me it’s raining. It’s not a neutral site.

Its like Oklahoma vs Texas... they say Dallas is neutral because its basically the same distance from each campus, but nonetheless its in Texas still

Neutral site games should be moved to post season only. That **** is for some rich mofos who don't even follow football. I would get rid of them. Sign a home and home. It be nice to see the Canes go to USC or Oregon, the big house. Why wouldn't you want these big matchups in your stadium and also to visit the other team. I'm looking forward to us playing at Auburn and Texas A&M this season.
You know how much money is involved w the neutral site games? It’s why teams sign off on them.

Again, Kirby and Mullen both shared interest in the game being played outside of Jax, and guess what, nothing happened. Their higher ups shut that down quick and I dont see when the contract is up in 2025 being any different. Both coaches cant say or desire for whatever, but they aint got pull like that no matter who they are

Sure. Whatever.

But Mullet was a weak dolt. Kirby is a defending national champ coach and his AD might take a different view now. I mean, how did things work out with the F$U AD not listening to Jimbo?

If Kirby pushes hard with his AD, then Kirby will get what he wants. Who knows, maybe this is just a lot of sound & fury, and Kirby is fine with Jax. But if not, then don't act like a puny $1.25 M is going to fix things.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be careless with other peoples' money. I'm just saying that your math is...Gaytor Mathz...yes, Jax gives them a gate-split, but who gives a fvck? If you go to a home-and-home model, one year you will get a TON of money, and the next year not so much, but the AVERAGE payout year-over-year will be pretty good.

Let's not forget, Jax is "expandable" to 82K capacity (Super Bowl?). Sanford Stadium holds 93K. Florida Field has a record size of 91K. You could literally sell MORE tickets by making this a home-and-home, plus Florida/Georgia get to retain the parking and concession and merch revenue. So this concept of "we get more money going to Jax" is just smoke-and-mirrors, because nobody has really presented an apples-to-apples comparison of ALL revenues by putting the "Jax" game side by side with the "2-year-home-and-home" version of the game.

I hope that Kirby really does (deep-down) feel the way that he has expressed the issue, and that UGa moves to terminate the game in Jax. That game really only benefits Jacksonville.

Because that’s been the way forever, same with Florida vs Georgia.
I don’t think FL/GA being played in Jax is some sort of untouchable sacred cow. For 1.2mill? Kids are getting that in NIL.

Traditions are being broken. NCAA and others have ruined what we grew up with. It’s a new game. I love playing FSU every year. But if we get to go to the SEC or B1G without them and they aren’t on the schedule, then adios. We need to do what’s best for us during this critical time. If Kirby wants out of that venue it could very well change come renewal time imo.

I’m not going to argue this point

Sorry, man, nothing personal, there just aren't too many arguments that I hate more than "it's always been this way, we can never change it".

The game has changed. The economics are different. This is why almost every OTHER neutral site game has died (and I'm not talking about the one-off kickoff classics). I'm talking about every-year rivalry games held in a stadium that does not constitute home-and-home. Nearly extinct.

And to think that Kirby is going to sign off on some loss of competitive advantage (one less marquee game he can invite recruits to) for a measly one million dollars bump is just silly when schools are now arranging to pay incoming freshmen MORE than a million dollars, without any proof (yet) of what they can deliver for that money. Schools will set money on fire if it can improve their chances of winning a title.

Fvck tradition. The "tradition" is apparently built on the foundation of ongoing 2-year contracts, which is not exactly a brick foundation.

Time for Kirby and UGa to grow a pair and do what they have been too cheap to do before, but can afford to do so now that they have a $100M annual SEC payout lingering on the horizon. Kinda makes the "ONE MEEEEEEELLION DOLLARS" number from Jax...not so compelling...

Dammit man, I just said that. In way more words. Which is why you got done with your post much more quickly than I got done with mine...

;)

Well said

So no one is gonna point out that their “star all American heisman Aaron Rodger lite cam Newton quarterback” Anthony Richardson is driving a Camry and TVD is driving a 7 series bmw?
Seems about right to me. We have a luxury QB, they have an econo QB.
