To recap:
Arteaga takes out one of his best hitters to bring in a defensive replacement.
Arteaga plays hot potato with his bullpen and burns through it, only to settle on a true freshman who...didn't look to be *that* kind of talent to me.
Watches him give up a leadoff double, then walk a guy. Has a righty warming only to let his true freshman lefty face their best hitters and really never compete.
That defensive replacement comes up in a big spot only to give a feeble at-bat.
Canes lose.
I really miss Fraser ball. I mean, even "early Jim Morris ball" was. mostly equivalent:
- the nine fastest guys in the ballpark were all in orange and green
- defense made plays and didn't make the same dumb errors. they were solid up the middle
- every guy in the lineup was a tough out because they go oppo, bunt, draw walks
- on the bases, every guy was a threat to steal and it disrupted opposing pitchers to no end
- you didn't need to have just the same 1 or 2 guys account for all the run production
- and because of that ....
- you didn't need every at bat to be a swing for the fences like it's a 10 year old's piñata party
