I hope it impacts our recruiting. It rightfully damages our recruiting.
And I have to laugh at anyone who is dense enough to believe this is a 2-3 day story. This is the type of case that will become famous and linger for years. It's perfect for segments on the newsmagazine shows, and for the half hour true crime programs. Those programs are growing in number. Heck, you've got entire networks like Investigative Discovery dedicated to it around the clock. Don't think for a second they are going to totally ignore something like this, especially when it drops off the edge of the Shapiro situation. That's a convenient lazy lead.
Full credit to the victim. She obviously had enough strength and guts to understand what must have happened and reported it. The players thought it was no big deal. It reminds me of the trucker who murdered several young women in the back of his rig. When confronted with the evidence, he said he wanted to get it behind him so he could get back out on the road.
This wasn't a novice experiment. Players don't do something like this unless the specifics have been detailed to them, along with all the anecdotes of friends getting away with it. They might have gotten away with it previously themselves. I roomed with athletes in college at USC, two baseball players and two water polo players. I remember those meetings and parties very well, with our entire apartment flooded with members of the team, and widespread stories of all the available rules breaking. In those days it was academic oriented, with tales of professors who were willing to look away and grant an easy passing grade to any athlete in the class. Those players didn't even need to attend the class. Just show up once and verify your status on a university team. As soon as those stories were passed around there was widespread glee, then cries of, "No way!" and finally, "Let's do it." I guarantee nothing has changed other than the schemes themselves.
These days there are entire networks and mindsets devoted to characterizing the perpetrators as the true victim. Occasionally a story like Duke lacrosse shows up, and that feeds the victimization stereotype to areas and cases where it doesn't threaten to belong. I hope this story gains full traction, the players are punished to extraordinary degree, and it helps spotlight date rape drugs and tendencies closer to the level they deserve. It's still an understated problem.
Otherwise, I continue to believe that our football prospects are next to nothing, in terms of regaining our standing as a national power. You aren't rewarded for abandoning a venue like the Orange Bowl in favor of Sun Life Stadium and then staying there for 25 years, begging to upgrades. When that's your mentality it means you are run by mediocrities at every level. Those mediocrities will make poor decisions in coaching and recruiting, and those recruits will similarly make lousy choices. That may seem like a reach but I believe in big picture scope. It seldom lets me down. I'll pay full attention to the Canes and Dolphins again when somebody is wise enough to rubble that stadium and escape. Kudos to David Beckham for unknowingly trying to help end our predicament. Now he's at the World Cup and we're in the wrong end of breaking news.
after admitting to drugging, raping 17-year old on campus
Deny. Deny. Deny.

Fat Al is the bizzarro Jimmy Johnson. He's bringing in a bunch of criminals who can't play. It's like a laundry list of scumbags he's brought in that UM has had to kick out.
Hey...I'm thrilled to admit I was incorrect. I jumped to a conclusion given worst case scenario from what I saw. I'm absolutely tickled that we got Scarlett and Bruce tonight, and that we may get Snelson this weekend. So, mea culpa. I'm a man of my word and will rep those who disagreed with me.BWCD is a prophet. Recruiting is getting killed by this.

Now, I still think that this will be used to negative recruit against us. It will be something that Golden and the staff will have to answer questions about. Thankfully, due to the swift actions taken, they should have a good answer for recruits and their families.

You guys are ridiculous.
This states that the two admitted to buying drinks and having *** with her. Most likely the girl said she would be pressing charges and they turned themselves in.
Now, it will come down if she was helpless, as she was not a minor and age of consent is 17.
They may have self incriminated their selves depending on how much they said, but there could be a trial and they found not guilty if the girl were to say she knew what was going on.
There is a reason we have due process and innocent until proven guilty.
These boys may be guilty, but the judge decides that, not you or anyone on twitter.
The girl hasn't spoke yet.
In the penultimate sentence in the last paragraph, they admit to performing sexual acts WITHOUT HER CONSENT. Another way of saying they have admitted to raping her.
Obviously, this does not align with our core values.
No sir, you don't understand a police report. The first paragraph highlights that being drunk of alcohol alters her way of thinking, a.k.a her consent.
If they admitted they had *** with her while she was drunk, then the police offer could plainly label that as them admitting to have *** with her without her consent, especially if she had been talking to the police beforehand.
The guys can't say really if she consented, unless she repeatedly said no, and that is no where in the police report.
Police write up these reports a certain way for a reason. I am sure there is a recording of what they actually admitted to.
It says, "The Defendants then admitted to performing sexual acts on the victim without her consent." If this is an accurate representation of their statements, then they have admitted to rape.

This post is absolute BS. Go jump off a bridge or take something to put you out of your misery.
Another spot on post, for those who thought it thru, this was obvious.I think the last three to four years show that at least Golden and Shalala are pros at this type of public relations handling. Nothing to worry about here.

I really don't see how they'd have to answer questions about this case. It's pretty cut and dry. Two young men performed a heinous act on their own accord, during their own time, and Golden has to answer for this? Makes absolutely no sense.
UM could not have handled this quicker and better. Nothing to see here anymore.

The following is not meant to defend or excuse in anyway what may have happened, just as comparison of charges and outcomes.
From the Herald article"
"In May 2011, Hurricanes freshman defensive lineman Jeffrey Brown was booted from the team after being accused of sexual battery on a helpless victim and admitting to Coral Gables police he had *** with a severely-intoxicated female student in a campus dorm. Those charges were eventually downgraded to false imprisonment and Brown was asked to serve three years probation, complete a *** therapy program and perform 100 hours of community service."
I always believe in hearing all the evidence before condemning anyone. Things are not always what they seem.
