The report said juvenile, but then said all parties involved are UM students.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the whole, "innocent until proven guilty," aspect of our judicial system.
Burden of proof is on the prosecution and not the defendant.

Let's not rush to judgement until actual facts are known.

They also ADMITTED to the crimes. What else do you want???

Allegedly.

First and foremost: obviously, if this is true, these dudes deserve what they have coming. That said, innocent until proven guilty is the way it's set up. And it's not like there's never been anyone wrongfully accused, or nobody's ever been alleged to have admitted something only to find out later that it's not true (whether statements were misinterpreted, fabricated, or otherwise).

Ever seen My Cousin Vinny? "I shot the clerk...I shot the clerk." It happens.

If I had to guess, these guys are toast and probably should be. But it's a guess. No doubt this all looks about as bad as it gets in terms of initial reports. But it's easy to rush to judgment. I remember about a week ago social media was going nuts trying to save the "father" in Georgia that left his kid in the car. Now, as more information comes out, everyone's ready to crucify him.

We'll see how this goes, but so far it's ugly.

They turned themselves in so allegedly is thrown out the window.

Are you saying that they admitted to the crimes by turning themselves in?

You guys are ridiculous.

This states that the two admitted to buying drinks and having *** with her. Most likely the girl said she would be pressing charges and they turned themselves in.

Now, it will come down if she was helpless, as she was not a minor and age of consent is 17.

They may have self incriminated their selves depending on how much they said, but there could be a trial and they found not guilty if the girl were to say she knew what was going on.

There is a reason we have due process and innocent until proven guilty.

These boys may be guilty, but the judge decides that, not you or anyone on twitter.

The girl hasn't spoke yet.

In the penultimate sentence in the last paragraph, they admit to performing sexual acts WITHOUT HER CONSENT. Another way of saying they have admitted to raping her.

Obviously, this does not align with our core values.

No sir, you don't understand a police report. The first paragraph highlights that being drunk of alcohol alters her way of thinking, a.k.a her consent.

If they admitted they had *** with her while she was drunk, then the police offer could plainly label that as them admitting to have *** with her without her consent, especially if she had been talking to the police beforehand.

The guys can't say really if she consented, unless she repeatedly said no, and that is no where in the police report.

Police write up these reports a certain way for a reason. I am sure there is a recording of what they actually admitted to.

It says, "The Defendants then admitted to performing sexual acts on the victim without her consent." If this is an accurate representation of their statements, then they have admitted to rape.

Unfortunate for the young lady and tragic error in judgment by these young men. My prayers go out to the young woman an I wish her a speedy recovery with minimal lasting effects from this ( i wish I could have said no lasting effects but there are always some residual from traumas of this nature).

As for the team it just opened two additional spots for the 2015 class, not the way you want it to happen but now they are there.

It's even worse than this ^^^. The 2nd paragraph of the description says "The Defendant and Co-defendant, WITHOUT PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT OF THE VICTIM, administered a narcotic...or intoxicating substance that ... mentally or physically incapacitated the victim."

it doesn't really matter how it gets spun. They gave alcohol or something else to an under age girl and took her back to the dorms to have ***. They are off the team regardless of what the courts and due process reveals. A very sad turn of events but its now the past and we move on regardless.

A lot of things could have actually happened.

I don't think they would have been suspended permanently if the AD didn't think they did something HORRIBLY bad.

My point is, police reports are written with bias A LOT and police have to go back and explain what they meant by a sentence. I wouldn't take the verbiage in a report too seriously

As I posted earlier, its disgusting to even think about doing all those things to someone who can barely move.

With that said, and as some have already posted, be careful judging what really happened based on that police report. You cant give consent if you are deemed inebriated. She could have willingly took whatever it was that caused her to become helpless.

Either way, you have to be sick and twisted in the mind to get off on someone that can't move.

And who with any kind of common sense admits to all of that from the get go. They sunk the ship before they had a chance to fight it.

Get used to this from fans like Bwcd, life is over, sky is falling, we should forfeit, blah blah. O don't contradict him, he is a recruiting guru, rpi expert, etc. Just ignore him. Only way I saw it was all the embedded threads, bad read.
Mind your own business, fvckwad. Keep your idiocy on the Baseball board, we don't need it here.

I never said "life is over, sky is falling, we should forfeit". I said I think it's going to adversely affect recruiting, and last more than 1 day in the news cycle...and said if I was wrong, that I'd rep those that were correct.

So, again--fvck you.

Oh, and somebody quote this so that tard can see it since he has me on ignore.

I'm not sure if it will really have a negative affect recruiting. Unless of course, the recruits were interested in coming to Miami to rape girls. But in that case, I'm pretty sure FSU would be their preferred destination anyways. If anything, I think it may end up being a positive for both recruits and parents in showing that Miami does not tolerate bullsh!t like this.
I hope I'm wrong, and I hope you're right. I'm simply highly skeptical that this will be the way that Saban/Jimbo/Muschamp and others will try to twist this situation when speaking to recruits and their families that we're going against them for.

No disrespect intended to you bro, but I just can't figure out why you think this is going to have some kind of lasting effect on our recruiting going forward. You mention Jimbo/Saban/Muschamp but fail to mention that not only did all three of those coaches have egregious arrests/incidents during their tenure (Saban - incoming recruit beating and robbing multiple people on campus. Jimbo - JW and G. Dent sexual assault cases. Muschamp - 11 arrests including Grand Theft and Domestic Battery) and not only did those incidents not effect their recruiting but I don't remember them 1) being talked about by any recruit as influencing his decision and 2) being something that the media keyed on for more than a few days (except for Winston of course).

This team under Golden, by comparison, has been relatively arrest free, which on it's own would be an effective counter argument should any of the aforementioned coaches choose to use this incident against us. So, why would any of those coaches choose to go down that road knowing that their own spotty record controlling their own teams can easily be brought up? Also, why would any coach bring up an isolated incident like this to negatively recruit against another school knowing full well that their own rosters are also stocked with stupid, immature kids who could, at any time, potentially put them in the same position that Golden now finds himself here?

This is an unfortunate but isolated incident. I'm sure, in the unlikely event that this is ever brought up by rival coaches to use against us, the vast majority of kids (along with their parents/guardians) will be thoughtful enough to see it as such..

Fair enough. I just don't see it as open and shut as you laid it out. Golden has been known for not really negative recruiting, so what's he going to do when a recruit brings up that someone negatively recruited against them? Is he going to line out Saban/Jimbo/Muschamp's programs issues the same way that they did to us? I don't think so. That's just not how he works. He may tell the recruit about being relatively incident free, and then point them to some sources to look at what other programs have done for themselves, but he's not going to sit there and say, "well, what about Squinston?".

I'm still concerned that this will get traction in the media and paint us in a negative light. For some parents, they already believe that Miami is a cesspool of violence, and don't need anything further than stuff like this to solidify that preconception in their minds. Not all of them know we're a private school located in Coral Gables, and that our history of things like this is more about perception than reality. That, my friend, is how I believe this incident will impact us. It's another log to throw onto the fire...not just this incident, but once you add it in with other people's preconceptions about UM, it doesn't help at all.

Add into the fact that this happened at Miami, and that the media will likely not give us much credit if any at all for handling this right...and it can only hurt your cause with the kids and parents you're working with on the trail.

As I said...I hope I'm completely wrong, and you're 100% right. I just don't see that happening.

This morning um posted an Insta of "happy bday Alex" which they promptly took down. 5 mins later I read this story.

i do not see how you think this gets any traction whatsoever. these aren't all-americans and that was probably a blessing because it made this thing easy to deal with. there will be nothing to talk about tomorrow. they were immediately tossed. and by the way every college campus has their share of this stuff going on so sadly it isn't even shocking stuff. just sad for the girl that has to live with this now.

of course the internet message board crowd will have fun with this but there is nothing for the mainstream media (ESPN) to do with this story other than report it for a day on their website and bottom line of their tv networks.

I just feel that as these kids (particularly SoFla kids like Scarlett and Bruce who are familiar with the area and have visited and have the ability to visit the campus on a regular basis) get to know the coaches and developing close, personal relationships with them, will be able to tell truth from exaggeration and outright lies fairly easily. I mean it's not like these kids will be fed this disinformation without the ability to see and experience the environment in and around campus or the type of people employed on our staff and then judge for themselves whether or not they are being fed a load of Bull by opposing coaches.

I just feel that, if brought up, there are many easy and effective ways to combat any fallout from this incident. So many in fact I just don't see opposing coaches wasting their time bringing it up or harping on it for too long if they are desperate enough to..
