It seems Mendoza stock and public perception has raised a lot since Arnold, Moss, Mensah, etc have dropped off the board.

His 44 sacks (#1 in the country) with his average time to throw being 2.5 seconds...scares me and gives me reason to pause. I'd have to look way deeper into this (is he missing open reads, are his wrs so bad they are never open?, etc).

Mendoza isn't high up there on my list, but if the option is blindly trusting Emory, then you absolutely take Mendoza.

I am curious, how would yall rank these random qbs for Miami?

Mendoza
Ewers
Beck
Avery Johnson
Rocco Becht
Julian Sayin
Air Noland
Josh Hoover
Sawyer Robertson
- Johnson
- Robertson
- Hoover
- Mendoza
- Becht
- Ewers
- Beck

- Noland, Sayin - Pass (No Experience)
Beck and Ewers below because only 1 year left.

Yeah I think Dawson has shown some good consistency the two years he’s been here. A change in QBs but George and X had similar production even with TVD flailing.

Horton and Colbie Young had almost identical production

We had almost identical rushing yard production the last two years even though we swapped a lot of backs (Fletcher being the main holdover)

It’s not a huge sample size but these aren’t NFL first round picks as far as receivers and backs so I am optimistic we can be in the ballpark
A person much smarter than I has stated ad naseum over the last two years that scheme matters and we have a WR friendly scheme. We need guys with adequate talent and they will produce as long as the QB is solid. Now the better the talent the better the results but as you stated, we should be optimistic that our current guys plus a good transfer or two should deliver

Yep. I posted the same thing last week. Even though he’s gonna be buns there.
If Ewers isn't an option and we don't land Mendoza, I genuinely don't know who we go for.

Are we really just going to ride with Emory, with TR FR Nickell and Judd as backups?

It's often overlooked but how good was Cam Ward for Emory's development. Cam seems like a film junkie and I find it hard to believe that TVD took Emory under his wing for film study if TVD was a film junkie at all.. maybe the staff has seen a massive progression from Emory from being under Cam. I hope whatever qb we get is a film junkie and smart enough to understand the coverage breakdowns and route concepts. I hope they also have a business mindset to take advantage for their career and bring young Nickel up to speed as a field general. Even if we lose a few games we may win big later.
and a lot of cams plays were stuff that isnt repeatable due to physical limitations .the arm angles cam threw it. his arm strength, etc.

I think it Mendoza and another qb that hasn’t decided to enter and his agent is reaching out to places. I’d much rather have Mendoza. Given the green light he’d be in over the other offers.

im not a huge mendoza fan but hes a lot better than emory

Without watching Hurricanes practices I think everyone would agree with you.

I know he put his body on the line at FSU in 2023, but he was crazy erratic and missing easy completions, and finished with like a 40% completion percentage if I recall

Who knows, I have a feeling Mario has his eye on someone that is currently on a playoff team

he had some good plays but he was mostly meh last year and idc if he lost a testacle running for a first round. give me the best player not the most grit at QB.

im looking at the playoff teams that are left - i cant see anyone (arch aint leaving) that would be a huge upgrade unless they think they can rehab q. ewers (who i think is gone to UNC or draft) or Carson Beck (hard pass he was TVD esque this year for UGA).

So, do you believe Mario et al are having substantive discussions at the moment or are we really just out of the Mendoza game?

He was terrible in 2023. Now it’s possible he’s improved but it would need to be a massive step forward for him to be what we need as a starter.

I know everyone looks good on highlights but Mendoza seems like a great fit in this offense. Smart passer, can move the chains with his legs, and I think would have a lot of pride in playing at Miami.

At some point we have to start having guys internally step up, but I feel like Mendoza could keep things going at a high level offensively and it removes some of the uncertainty with Emory probably with the caveat you lose Emory.
