Feldman on Miami & Golden

Being objective...

I like Golden and I do think he deserves a little longer to get things going considering the mess he walked into.

However...

In year 3 you expect to see some improvement. Yeah we went 9-4 but this team wasn't much different than last year's team. We nearly lost to two inferior teams and got our breaks beat off by any team with a pulse. We got our asses whooped by Duke and VT. Let that sink in.

We allow every team we play to break season records against us. They look better against Miami than they did/do against all their other opponents.

I'm not looking at the 9-4 record, I'm looking at what COULD'VE been and what SHOULD'VE been. Honestly, we should've finished 11-2 this year. We had no business being blown out by VT and Duke. FSU and Louisville would've been tough games regardless. You can make all the excuses you want about lack of talent but other teams who lack talent faired much better against some of the teams we played. After a month to prepare we looked completely UNPREPARED in the bowl game and got our asses whooped up and down the field.

Going 9-4 wouldn't be something to complain about if the games were atleast close and we looked like we belonged on the same field as our opponents. That wasn't the case though, we got our asses whooped, showing that we're not even CLOSE to where we need to be. The record also wouldn't be something to complain about if next year looked promising, but it doesn't. It appears that next year will be more of the same. This great recruiting class that everybody is optimistic about will take atleast another 2 years before they can make a difference. That's 5 years into Golden's regime.

I just don't know. *shrug*

I don't think VT is on the staff, how many turnovers did we have that lead to short *** fields for VT? That was just bad execution by our players that made it easy for VT to put up points.. duke, especially offensively, was pretty good this year, as was seen in their bowl game.. this is not like losing to the duke of 3-4 years ago.. and we're not the miami of 14 years ago, either.

honestly, our worst loss is VT, and that's because of the mistakes we made.

Couldn't disagree more. Nowhere in this universe or any alternates should UM ever lose to Duke.

Even if you don't agree with that point (which in and of itself should make you pause and realize what a mess we are if you're debating that point), there is no arguing that to an even greater degree losing to Duke by double digits is an absolute abomination.

Enduring a nail biter with Wake is right up there as well. All the signs of a badly coached team are staring you in the face.

550 yards given up in that game, and you are blaming it on the short field from interceptions.

That is what Duke Basketball used to say about us...things change.

I actually thought that we should beat Duke this year. We didn't. We sucked. As for close games, they happen all the time.

That game displayed how badly coached we are. Our coaches had no answer for something as simple as a wide split OL. But yeah, it was the talent's fault that they were gashing us untouched through canyon-sized holes.

IMO this team stumbles to 7 or 8 wins this season and then Golden will need to prove himself to save his job in 2015 with no NCAA cloud or talent deficiency or injury bug or whatever other excuses to lean on. Hopefully for his sake, by that time Jameis heads to the NFL and maybe just maybe AG can hold a recruiting class together without it falling apart on him, and THEN we can see them possibly compete for an ACC title. With that said, I really believe that is the ceiling for expectations for the next two seasons, so anybody who has their sights on larger goals, needs to come back down to Earth. Not saying I like this, just saying it appears to be the most likely outcome.

AG has made it clear that he and Onofrio will get it right or go down with the ship together. Let's see what happens before rushing to judgement. If next season they run out another bottom 30 defense and get embarrassed by every good team they play, then feel free to gas up the jet and fly banners over Sun Life in 2015. Until then, I say we give AG our support...while hoping Butch stays unemployed for two more years. ;-)

Pathetic. Golden & Co. aren't stumbling into 8 wins this year-- and why in Gods name does he deserve another year to flail when he's shown he and his staff have very little idea how to successfully coach this team. Our defense is humiliated by average teams at best, and he makes ZERO changes-- and that merits another year!?

What's more sad is you're hoping our biggest rival's QB leaves early so we have a shot at the ACC--not National Championship. Would you have ever thought like this before the last 3 Head Coaching debacles? You're praying Winston leaves so THEN we have a chance? If we cant compete with F$U until 2015, Al gets a pass for that!?

I think you & Cane Almighty are suffering from a serious case of Stockholm Syndrome.

EXACTLY! Logan Thomas couldn't hit the broad side of a barn most the season---their most reliable play had been the QB draw and they had run it with impunity since he coudnt complete a pass. Up till the time they meet us, and he lights us up like a roman candle.

i'm pretty sure it was fumbles, but that's not really important.. we gave them the ball in really favorable positions to score.

I'd agree with you, if we were having this discussion Circa 1999-2005.. our team isn't what it once was, especially after coker and shannon.. duke, isn't the same duke it used to be either..

Now, if you want to say "miami on top of it's game, shouldn't ever lose to duke".. then i'll 100% agree with you. But we're not there yet, and no sensible person should have thought we'd be there after 2 recruiting classes.

Fans see the U on the helmet and seem to forget we've sucked for an eternity, and that the reasons why we've sucked have a direct correlation to why we're sucking right now, and why it will take time to no longer suck.

DaU is completely lost and lobotomized

the VT game was the most clear evidence of a team quitting and giving up on its coaches especially on defense. the Dook game was the 2nd best evidence of that

F.A.G. has lost this team

In year 3 you expect to see some improvement. Yeah we went 9-4 but this team wasn't much different than last year's team. We nearly lost to two inferior teams and got our breaks beat off by any team with a pulse. We got our asses whooped by Duke and VT. Let that sink in.

You're Canes4Life....minus the caps. You're so **** bent on defending the regime that you've lost all sense of reality.

That is what Duke Basketball used to say about us...things change.

I actually thought that we should beat Duke this year. We didn't. We sucked. As for close games, they happen all the time.

Sorry brother....the "times change" thing only applies here cause we've self imposed 3 bad coaching staffs in a row which has gotten us to this point.

I'll repeat....nowhere in this universe should the University of Miami (who happens to be positioned in the most recruiting ground in America......plus has more talent even in their off years than Duke) should ever lose to them. I'll give Duke a ton of credit...but it only further proves the point that COACHING MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Ask yourself this question...and be honest. You keep everything else constant and switch Duke's coaching staff with ours going into that game.

Give me a score.

Not even that.

Ask any objective person who follows college football whose roster would they rather have; Miami's or Duke's?

There's no doubt in my mind that you get Miami as an answer 10 times out of 10. We just got out-coached plain and simple.

I'm going to say this in the least confrontational way possible...

You're Canes4Life....minus the caps. You're so **** bent on defending the regime that you've lost all sense of reality.
have i though? i think i'm one of very few who understand our actual reality. we were not good at all when golden took over, and those issues were not going to be fixed in 2 seasons. that's our reality.

I agree but...times DO change.

We hired Coach L and things change, we went from bottom-feeders to ranked #1 with the right guy. We went from Duke's bltch to whipping them and almost beating them at their house (fark Kelly).

Please note I do think we should beat Duke but sometimes things change. Sorry that you disagree. I do agree that we have had 3 bad coaching tenures in a row and it puts us in this position.

To answer your question (I hate these hypos BTW), I would expect our offense to be a little better and our defense to be pretty similar. I like Cutcliffe's offensive brain, I don't think he improves the defense overall.

I don't have a clue what would be the score. Even if Al and Co beats Duke this year (which they should), does this change things? Does this mean Al and Co is a better crew than Cutcliffe and Co.

No one is debating that. Miami's roster is better. I am only saying that things change overtime. Clearly we're handicapped by our Coach and his staff.

Sometimes things can change though.

depends, this is what duke's coaching staff was able to do at duke in 3 seasons.

2008 Duke 4–8 1–7 6th (Coastal)
2009 Duke 5–7 3–5 5th (Coastal)
2010 Duke 3–9 1–7 T–5th (Coastal)

Is the choice duke's coaching staff after 3 seasons in the program, or in their 6th season in the program?
