Feldman on Miami & Golden

Being objective...

I like Golden and I do think he deserves a little longer to get things going considering the mess he walked into.

However...

In year 3 you expect to see some improvement. Yeah we went 9-4 but this team wasn't much different than last year's team. We nearly lost to two inferior teams and got our breaks beat off by any team with a pulse. We got our asses whooped by Duke and VT. Let that sink in.

We allow every team we play to break season records against us. They look better against Miami than they did/do against all their other opponents.

I'm not looking at the 9-4 record, I'm looking at what COULD'VE been and what SHOULD'VE been. Honestly, we should've finished 11-2 this year. We had no business being blown out by VT and Duke. FSU and Louisville would've been tough games regardless. You can make all the excuses you want about lack of talent but other teams who lack talent faired much better against some of the teams we played. After a month to prepare we looked completely UNPREPARED in the bowl game and got our asses whooped up and down the field.

Going 9-4 wouldn't be something to complain about if the games were atleast close and we looked like we belonged on the same field as our opponents. That wasn't the case though, we got our asses whooped, showing that we're not even CLOSE to where we need to be. The record also wouldn't be something to complain about if next year looked promising, but it doesn't. It appears that next year will be more of the same. This great recruiting class that everybody is optimistic about will take atleast another 2 years before they can make a difference. That's 5 years into Golden's regime.

I just don't know. *shrug*

I don't think VT is on the staff, how many turnovers did we have that lead to short *** fields for VT? That was just bad execution by our players that made it easy for VT to put up points.. duke, especially offensively, was pretty good this year, as was seen in their bowl game.. this is not like losing to the duke of 3-4 years ago.. and we're not the miami of 14 years ago, either.

honestly, our worst loss is VT, and that's because of the mistakes we made.

GTFOH. VT marched up and down the field on us with their 100th ranked offense.

Just stop.

Couldn't disagree more. Nowhere in this universe or any alternates should UM ever lose to Duke.

Even if you don't agree with that point (which in and of itself should make you pause and realize what a mess we are if you're debating that point), there is no arguing that to an even greater degree losing to Duke by double digits is an absolute abomination.

Enduring a nail biter with Wake is right up there as well. All the signs of a badly coached team are staring you in the face.

That is what Duke Basketball used to say about us...things change.

I actually thought that we should beat Duke this year. We didn't. We sucked. As for close games, they happen all the time.

Two totally different sports.

It's not like UM doesn't have some firepower either and the Canes had a big experienced O-line, but they just flopped. They got mauled by Louisville in their bowl game.

i know people don't like facts.. but

"A fumbled punt return. A fumbled kickoff return. A punting miscue.

Trey Edmunds and Virginia Tech cashed in on each of those massive Miami blunders"
Those are the first lines of the recap of our game .. that's 21 points VT got because of our mistakes.. that's not an excuse, just a fact. Yes, our defense is terrible, but you give up 21 points on 2 fumbles and a special teams mistake and you're probably not going to win those games..

So even with the short fields VT was still able to put up 550 yards. Doesn't it stand to reason that if VT got short fields they wouldn't put up 550 yards?

Also, here's a novel concept: our defense could make a stop. Gasp!

We didn't have to allow touchdowns off of those turnovers. The only turnover where VT was put in scoring position was the punt miscue. Otherwise, if our defense wasn't so ******, we could have forced VT to punt. Instead, VT marched down our backs for touchdowns.

The fumbles were recovered at VT's 46 and 49 yard line.

Yeah, god forbid our defense gets a stop in those situations. Love how this guy tried to imply that they recovered these fumbles at the 10 yard line.

LOL @ the notion that a turnover should automatically equal points.

550 yards.
100th ranked offense.

Let that sink in.

It wouldn't have mattered where VT started with the ball.

Sorry brother....the "times change" thing only applies here cause we've self imposed 3 bad coaching staffs in a row which has gotten us to this point.

I'll repeat....nowhere in this universe should the University of Miami (who happens to be positioned in the most recruiting ground in America......plus has more talent even in their off years than Duke) should ever lose to them. I'll give Duke a ton of credit...but it only further proves the point that COACHING MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Ask yourself this question...and be honest. You keep everything else constant and switch Duke's coaching staff with ours going into that game.

Give me a score.

I agree but...times DO change.

We hired Coach L and things change, we went from bottom-feeders to ranked #1 with the right guy. We went from Duke's bltch to whipping them and almost beating them at their house (fark Kelly).

Please note I do think we should beat Duke but sometimes things change. Sorry that you disagree. I do agree that we have had 3 bad coaching tenures in a row and it puts us in this position.

To answer your question (I hate these hypos BTW), I would expect our offense to be a little better and our defense to be pretty similar. I like Cutcliffe's offensive brain, I don't think he improves the defense overall.

I don't have a clue what would be the score. Even if Al and Co beats Duke this year (which they should), does this change things? Does this mean Al and Co is a better crew than Cutcliffe and Co.

I couldn't possibly disagree more. You switch the coaching staffs and not only is the offense better, but the defense at least plays "mediocre" simply by getting rid of that piece-of-garbage-abomination of a defensive scheme.

Do you have any idea how huge a step up "mediocre" is from our current state on defense?

Is it time to coin a new phrase? We were "Cokerized" for so long , I think it's pretty evident that we haven't even noticed that some of our fanbase has been Goldenized.

Let me guess...you probably see the trend.

If they are going to let mopes like calamity jane and 83 post, they need to let nites back on. He would run a train on these fools.

The defense should have held in the vt game but the fumbles killed us. Killed us!! If we score on those 2 drives we probably win that game.

But the defense made Logan look like peyton

depends, this is what duke's coaching staff was able to do at duke in 3 seasons.

2008 Duke 4–8 1–7 6th (Coastal)
2009 Duke 5–7 3–5 5th (Coastal)
2010 Duke 3–9 1–7 T–5th (Coastal)

Is the choice duke's coaching staff after 3 seasons in the program, or in their 6th season in the program?

So just to be clear...everyone in this thread that is of sound mind and knows at least a little football will admit that Miami has more talent on their roster than Duke.

So with that being the case...no matter how you want to spin, cherry pick, and bust out the paint brush to paint the picture the fact still remains that the SAME Duke staff that BOTH had a good year last year and put up the records shown above....beat us by double digits.

So yeah....if this was a court case I'd drop the ******* mic and drop kick it on the way out the door.

No matter how you slice it...that coaching staff does more with less. Meanwhile this coaching staff not only hasn't done anything here...but even if you go back to Temple they never beat a "Miami" like the Duke staff did.

And exactly why can't DUKE improve as a football team to the point where they can beat Miami? In what universe is it written that they can't?
Is it in the same one that that said Miami basketball should never beat Duke Basketball? NOT
Is it the same one the said WF should never beat FSU in football? Clearly not.
Is it the same one that said VT should never be competing for MNC's much less playing in one? NOT
I could go on and on but for the sake of brevity won't.

There is nothing from stopping Duke from being as good a football program as they aspire to be. They have the resources. They have the talent base around them. All they needed was a solid coach and some patience.

And in case you didn't notice DUKE was a solid football program this year.

I was punching holes in walls just like most cane fans were when we lost to them, but as the season went on and DUke proved to be a solid team as A&M and Manziel can attest to I came to terms with it. It's not like they lost to 2-3 win Duke teams of old. This was a legit team.

As for WF, to put things in proper perspective. In 2011 a 9-4 FSU team lost to a 6-7 WF team.. So no, it's not the end of the world that we nearly lost to WF or that we lost to a 10 win Duke team. The current MNC lteam lost to WF 2 years ago. Perspective.. Get some.

Duke improved because of player development and a good scheme....not because of some influx of talent.

You're absolutely ******* nuts if you attribute Duke's record this year to an improvement of talent. Go back and look at the ratings of all the guys on that roster coming out of high school.

Why do we have to have a roster full of 5 stars to beat Duke or not have a close game to Wake...or not lose to VT (at home) by double digits.

Or better yet...to not get blown out by the 18th ranked team in the country who played nobody all year despite having 30 days to prepare for said game.

I honestly don't think I'm asking for too much.

they do more with less, after 6 seasons.. if you were a duke fan, you'd probably have whined through the first 5 seasons of duke football under cutcliffe.. while duke doesn't have better talent than we do, they have 6 years of continuity with a good coach that's building their program.. if they would have run him out after season 3, they probably don't see the success they saw this year.. the funny thing is that you're giving cutcliffe so much credit, even though it took them 6 years to get to 10-4.. and are *****ing about our staff after 3 seasons, one which we just finished 9-4..

You're absolutely ****ing nuts if you attribute Duke's record this year to an improvement of talent. Go back and look at the ratings of all the guys on that roster coming out of high school.

did the scheme change this year? because that same scheme and coaching led to seasons of 4, 5, 3, 3, 6 and this year 10 wins.. that scheme and coaching just all of suddenly worked this year? come on guy..
