Official Fall Camp PractiSe #7: Wednesday August 9

Kelly
Deen
Taylor
Mesidor

Pretty dang good starting group right there

Kelly/Harvey/Wayne/Moss
Deen/Moten/Horton/Campbell
Taylor/JHH/Lichtenstein/Gore
Mesidor/Bain/Chantz/Acheampong

To me, a lot depends on someone like Moten stepping firmly into the 2nd team DT role. More numbers are nice, but hopefully we get multiple leaps from multiple spots.

IMHO.. he keeps getting hurt in practice so they're going to baby him in practice and let whatever happen in the game. Either he balls and gets playing time or he doesn't and he stays 4th. Or he gets hurt. At least it was in a game and not practice.

Some guys are just like that. Not ideal but it is what it is with limited depth.

Honestly at this point Chaney is approaching Zion Nelson levels of reliability. If we get quality carries from him this year then great, but let's not count on it.

Y’all do know football is injury prone spot right? Fck y’all talking about. Lol. Every time someone puts on that helmet and steps on the field they’re a step away from getting injured. No team is above it.
Of course but to his point I think there was some noteworthy disproportionate data

But to your point it happens all across the country and into the NFL

So like I was saying before it was worth noting but not compelling to me

Yeah not sure how much to read into that if they’re playing it safe with him but what is awesome is seeing guys like Fletcher step right in like they belong
From what I've read all three have been really good in pass protection sets and catching the ball. Might be the edge here given how often Air Raid has a RB in protection and no TE

It’s probably too much to ask from a kid like Horton at this point but Moten and Horton could go a long way here. I think Horton is the goods but he’s probably a year away unfortunately

It was pretty clear how the staff felt with how they approached the portal

This is what you’ve been looking for I think:

Good point

One thing I’ve been pondering is what Dawson does when McCormick is on the field

We can’t tip our hand that much just having a blocking TE come into the game, but Dawson obviously knows that

Really curious to see how we approach that

They can easily slide him in pass protection or let him run short stick or flat routes to occupy a defender.

I hate the idea of bunching the box with a big immobile TE because it will “help the running game.”

Spreading teams out and killing them with your outside weapons if they choose not to go DB heavy and thin out the box, is how you help the running game.

**** that's wild. I imagine even if he gets over that hurdle and plays well it can't be good for his longevity of his future football career post UM...I know I had heard rumors that the surgery wasn't done very well. Not sure if true
I am interpreting what David Lake said who was no doubt interpreting what he was told to an extent, but it seemed like they were suggesting that the coaches think he needs to just 'tough through it'. Again, those weren't the exact words, but the way I took it.

Assuming that is true and it is not going to get better, I think he either needs to accept this is how it is and play or probably plan for something else. I wouldn't fault him either way, especially if playing is going to make it worse. Feel for him and any other player that in a similar situation.

These reporters need to relax with guessing rotations! Especially, when it comes to skill players during the first 2 weeks of camp. I’ve filmed college practices before. Half of the time the guys aren’t even going in any consistent order during media viewing!!! They have so many fans roused up for no reason. Lol atleast wait until game week to get a legit gage of who’s in the 2 deep or rotation.
