Official Fall Camp PractiSe #7: Wednesday August 9

I truly hope Mario and Co. changed their approach when it comes to injury prevention. Last year Hearing that Citizen/Chaney got hurt in the preseason was heartbreaking. Then proceeded to lose X and almost every OL at some point.

So far so good (knock on wood) but damnit was that frustrating last year
I'd say the first adjustment is getting out of the heat as much as possible. Yes, Miami stands for the heat, but intense heat makes you sweat and that makes it easy for muscles to get weak.

Health this season is so beyond important. Really seems that starting OL and DL are above average which makes a world of difference. Feld and fkn Vinny and his POS training staff need to earn their money
It has been reported here that Vinny is no longer running the training staff I believe. @Brooklyndee I believe stated that Mario made that change already

I know enough about S&C to know I shouldn’t comment without seeing the process in person and in depth

But man something definitely wasn’t right…or it just could be a perfect storm of **** that was last season

Didn’t he have injury problems when he was at Oregon?
Someone posted some data here and I remember it being noteworthy but not necessarily compelling

I could be wrong though would have to go back and check that

Some observations by Gaby:

-The offensive and defensive line were going at it with Alex Mirabal’s group working on some run blocking sets that displayed plenty of movement by the front. It was tight end Cam McCormick paired with the first-team offensive line during these runs. The Oregon transfer was brought in to be a physical presence at the line of scrimmage and will play a key role in helping Miami establish the run.

-Nyjalik Kelly still seems to have the edge over Jahfari Harvey over a week into fall camp. The rest of the defensive line looked the same as far as the lineup with Leonard Taylor, Branson Deen, and Akheem Mesidor making up that first unit.

-Nathaniel Joseph got some work with the outside receivers with Xavier Restrepo working on the inside of him. It was interesting to see both slots on the field. Joseph is looking like a strong candidate to backup the veteran here in fall camp and looks to continue to push for plenty of playing time.

-Ajay Allen looks like a natural pass catcher out of the backfield. The Nebraska transfer has generated buzz since arriving at Miami and is working behind incumbent Henry Parrish. True freshman Mark Fletcher was working behind Allen. Don Chaney has been running 4th

-One person who flashed during block shedding drills was true freshman linebacker Malik Bryant. Javion Cohen had a strong rep on Francisco Mauigoa. Samson Okunlola and Anez Cooper were a few more offensive lineman who performed well during block shedding against linebackers.

-Bryant, Raul Aguirre, Keontra Smith (against Francis Mauigoa) and KJ Cloyd were a few more with a win against the offensive line.

-Daryl Porter got an opportunity to kick things off as the outside cornerback alongside Davonte Brown and Jaden Davis (nickel). That second corner spot seems to be a position that’s up for grabs here in fall.

The same way we warn other fantasies about coaches uo fans bought it up as a con that would have injuries pop up..

I never seen Soo many in season practice injuries, that restrepo thread before ATM was crazy

Kelly
Deen
Taylor
Mesidor

Pretty dang good starting group right there

Notes and Observations from Canesport:

-Jalen Rivers struggled a bit – he was beaten by Francisco Mauigoa and later in the drill Corey Flagg went right around him with barely a hand laid on him … Flagg faked inside before going outside.

-
*Francis Mauigoa did a nice job on KJ Cloyd, shutting him down, but Mauigoa lost a later rep with Keontra Smith easily beating him and bursting into the backfield.

*Javion Cohen easily handled Corey Flagg on one rep and also handled Francisco Mauigoa. It was a strong performance by him.

*Anez Cooper had a great rep against Keontra Smith, totally stifling his pass rush and driving him backward. But later on Cooper didn’t hold up vs. Malik Bryant, with Bryant easily beating him.

*Samson Okunlola was beaten badly by Marcellius Pulliam, barely getting a hand on him.

-The leaders in the receiver room appear to be Colbie Young, Xavier Restrepo, Ray Ray Joseph and Jacolby George. Behind them the main group appears to be Shemar Kirk, Brashard Smith, Robby Washington (had a drop yesterday in media viewing and another today) and Tyler Harrell.

-On the defensive line it appears that Nyjalik Kelly continues to be a main component alongside Leonard Taylor, Branson Deen and Akheem Mesidor. Jahfari Harvey is still looking to push Kelly for that starting job, of course, and Rueben Bain will also be a major factor.

Don Chaney running 4th, huh.

Interesting about Chaney.
IMHO.. he keeps getting hurt in practice so they're going to baby him in practice and let whatever happen in the game. Either he balls and gets playing time or he doesn't and he stays 4th. Or he gets hurt. At least it was in a game and not practice.

Some guys are just like that. Not ideal but it is what it is with limited depth.
