Everyone seems to know this except our DC

Funniest part about this thread--

Brennan ******* Carroll is on the staff!!!! He coached under his Dad for 7 years at USC!! Do you think he would accept a position with Golden if the team is using a philosophy his Dad thinks would never work in college?? My guess is he talks football with his Dad all the time!

Our University midget President doesn't know this.

Big boosters don't know this.

The BOT doesn't know this.

Because if anyone knew a damned thing, D'Onofrio would be gone, because Al would be gone.

I guarantee. This is Golden's last year here. Guaranteed.
he'd have to have a dumpster fire of a season to get booted..

thats whats coming

there's no way we only win 3-5 games ... anywhere in the 8-10 range and Al keeps his job.
8 wins is regression and should automatically be grounds for his termination. Hope you can agree on that, despite what we or you think the administration will actually do.

i agree it's regression but in no way would i say it's automatic grounds for termination, though i think it would give the administration some bargaining power if they wanted to get rid of certain staff members.. that said.. anything between 8-10 wins and they're not even going to discuss firing him.

I remember I got curious of this outlier 16th ranked super defense that has gotten Donofrio all the leeway in the world that NO other DC in the country could ask for (Not 1 but TWO (2) disgusting defenses. He gets a pass just because of Nepotism, he doesnt have the resume to to be given a top BCS job.), I looked up the numbers and posted them on this board somewhere. I knew I should of saved it, stupid me thinking people would realize by seasons end how bad this guy is.

From what I remember, there were tons of terrible offenses, like multiple in the bottom qtr and maybe only 1 offense above 40th ranked. I think they also got light up by that offense. Donofrio should not be coaching at miami. Golden mentor cant even keep a job in the same conference. I had hope for golden that he would drop the stubbornness and have UM best interest at heart. Not sure about him now.

You should find that post skyman. I'm curious to see the type of offenses that lead to Doritos coaching a top 20 defense.

If he doesn't fire Dorito, you know all you need to know.

There is this funny thing called a pay check and that's why Brennan Carroll is on this staff.

I can't imagine that when their defenses were terrible, they were playing much better competition/better offenses..
I'd also be curious to see the ranks of the offenses we played in 01 in the big east.. i would imagine it wasn't a murderers row of top 10 offenses either.

Funniest part about this thread--

Brennan ****ING Carroll is on the staff!!!! He coached under his Dad for 7 years at USC!! Do you think he would accept a position with Golden if the team is using a philosophy his Dad thinks would never work in college?? My guess is he talks football with his Dad all the time!
Irrefutable.

You should find that post skyman. I'm curious to see the type of offenses that lead to Doritos coaching a top 20 defense.
Not Skyman but here are some stats

Temple's Points Scored Per Game 79th

Here's what makes me laugh most about this. Their offenses sucked and they played a super bad SOS which means their offense REALLY sucked. When you play a bunch of offenses that bad, its almost hard to not be a top 20 defense. Seeing stuff like that just further solidifies my belief that the 16th ranked defense they had in Temple was not even close to what true 16th ranked defense is. I'd be surprised if that was truly even a top 50 defense against an average SOS.

Of course this brings up the next fact. This is what we have to look forward to for a couple more years at least.:(:crownpour:

It's funny how some ppl who like Golden refuse to be critical of his coaching decisions. I like Golden but I hate his choice to keep Dno and to continue to run this crap defense. Also those numbers are irrefutable at Temple. they crap offenses and had one good year. The reason you know it's crap is because the golden apologist are still hanging their hat on what he did at temple 5 years ago. I don't care what happened at temple. All I know is right now at the U our defense sucks. Ex players know it, Current players know it, opposing coaches know it, and even the **** announcers know it.

Golden supporters tout that 16th ranked scoring defense but what they don't tell you is that its an anomaly in Golden's tenure at Temple. They will rebut with MSU and their defensive stats. What they don't get is once the HC and Narduzzi got their defense in place, they stayed in the top ten statistically. It takes Golden 4 years to get any semblance of a competent defense. The guy simply is not a good Head Coach and incompetent at best as a Defensive mind while Dorito is laughably bad.

i'm not sure you're 100% positive on the definition of anomaly.. Al's and D'onod's showed a trend of improvement each year they were there, i'd even venture to guess that their defense was pretty solid the year after they left too ( i'll look it up in a bit)... the point is.. an anomoly would be 6 years of defenses in the 80's then one 16th ranked defense.. there's nothing anomalous about a 16th ranked defense when you've been showing an upward trend.

12th in total D.. 3rd in scoring D in 2011.. that's a roster full of Golden D'Onof guys...

all that being said, our defense is currently terrible, but based on their track record, i think they deserve some time to get their type of on the roster.. that's going to take more than two recruiting classes.

So you're saying another coaching staff came in and did an even better job with their own guys than they did? mind = blown

i know that fits your rhetoric so of course you'd say that.. the problem with your theory is that the same coaching staff that went 9-4 with golden's team and had the 12th ranked total D and 3rd ranked scoring D in 2011.. what'd they do in 2012 one year removed from golden's tenure? 4-7 90th in Total D 86th in Scoring.. oops

No, I don't think YOU understand the definition of an anomaly. Two top 25 defenses in his entire career, mixed in with nothing but mediocre to bad defenses. One of the Top 25 defenses regressed back to the 60's the very next year.

No, I don't think YOU understand the definition of an anomaly. Two top 25 defenses in his entire career, mixed in with nothing but mediocre to bad defenses. One of the Top 25 defenses regressed back to the 60's the very next year.
I'm only talking about his defenses he and Donof put together as an HC Dc combo at temple.. what he did as DC under groh is not the same as him having final say in recruits, scheme etc.. like he did at temple with Donof as his DC.. that's the situation that's comparable to ours, that's the one that matters.

Lol. So he's not responsible for the defenses he coordinated at Virginia?

You are isolating/cherry-picking Temple rather than looking at his entire body of work because it is the only instance that fits your narrative. What he did as a defensive coordinator, running the same scheme is very relevant. Not shocked that this is over your head.
