ESPN and Playoff Conversation Points

IF we were to get in, we'd be the 11 or 12 seed. Which would pit us against either the 5 or 6 seed. The teams in those spots would be Texas if they lose, the loser of Oregon/Penn State, or ND. The only team we even stand a chance against imo is Penn State. Texas, Oregon and ND all have great defense as well as good/great offenses. Ewers and Gabriel would both carve us up like a turkey. Leonard and ND would run through our soft as baby **** defense. Yeah our offfense is statistically the best in CFB but we haven't played a defense anywhere close to any of those teams. Blow out city if we play any of those 3.
We are talking about the same Texas team that hasn't topped 220 yards passing in any of its last 4 games?

I am not saying we would beat ANY of the four teams you mentioned, but with this offense and a couple of good breaks, I think we could beat anyone in the playoff. No team is dominant.

Some of the guys who model this stuff very closely and go by WHAT THE COMMITTEE DOES PRESENTLY AND HISTORICALLY have Miami at 11 for this week, Bama at 12, Ole Miss at 13.

We'll see, but I don't think the playoffs are dead.

I do think if we miss, it'll likely be by 1 spot, max 2.
Funny how I've been getting **** for saying exactly this lol

I do think we sneak in but we got zero shot in the snow/cold weather in December w this defense

If it was that simple, FSU would have been in the playoffs with no losses last year.
Not even close to being the same thing. FSU with a backup QB who couldn’t compete a forward pass is lot the same as a healthy 10-2 team

I’m not gonna argue that we’d beat anyone with how bad this defense is but I think we’d have a lot better shot against Notre Dame or Penn State than we would against someone with a high power passing attack. If you put an accurate QB against this defense, it’s a wrap. Look at Shough and McCord and even Murphy to an extent. The Cal kid too. Anyone with accuracy is going to shred this defense because we can’t cover a ******* soul.

I’d take my chances against Allar or Leonard. I’m not gonna say we’d hold anyone under 40, but I think Oregon or UGA puts up 50 on us in their sleep.

Either way, I just hope we get to see it. I want to see these kids play again, and it’s a massive check for the school.

I agree Ole Miss is not in the conversation and don’t think USCe is either.

Ole Miss’ SOS is worse than UMs, they have more losses, and fewer top 50 wins.

Tennessee is seemingly a lock, but has a much worse SOS and fewer top 50 wins than UM. Hmmm.

Alabama has a good SOS and as many top 50 wins as UM but two bad losses (outside of top 40).

Miami has a weaker SOS than Bama but 1 fewer loss, as many top 40 wins, and it’s only losses are top 40 losses.

Colley Matrix has Alabama 5/1000 of a point higher than Miami with Bama at 11. It has Tennessee, USCe, and Ole Miss behind UM with Ole Miss at 24. Interestingly, it has Syracuse at 16 and Louisville at 23.

Wolfe has Miami at 11 and ahead of all the bubble SEC teams and Tennessee. He also has Syracuse and Louisville at 19 and 22. The other 2 major computer rankings systems favor the SEC teams over Miami.

Tough call for the committee.
The game I had my eye on the most this last weekend was actually UT vs Vanderbilt. I felt if UT lost we would be a lock and by all accounts I was right.

Correct.

Tomorrow is the day. If we’re ranked 11, we’re in with an SMU win on Saturday.

If we’re 12th or lower, it’s a wrap.

2 steps to go. Tomorrow and Saturday.
Yeah Literally the only way I can even think of that we could still make it with an SMU loss is if Ohio St losing to Michigan actually drops Indiana even more.

Like head to head with Indiana we have 1 more loss, but it's not like they have better wins. They have 3 wins vs bowl elligible teams. We are 4-2 on the road against bowl elligible teams. Their best win was against 6-6 Michigan, and their loss was to Ohio St where they got blown out even if the score wasn't really showing it as much.

I don't think it'd be CRAZY if the ranking was

1. Oregon
2. Texas
3. ND
4. PSU
5. UGA
6. Ohio St
7. UTenn
8. SMU
9. Miami
10. Indiana
11. Boise St
12. Alabama
13. Arizona St
14. South Carolina
15. Ole Miss
16. Clemson

Boise St winning against UNLV would move them up to 9 probably. And then a win of Clemson over SMU would push SMU to 10/11, giving Clemson the auto-bid, and push Indiana out...

Problem is that 220 you’re talking about turns into 440 with our defense. Yes, a stray defensive stop hear and there might make the difference, but the current trend is our defense can’t do that.

"they're not pushing 2 loss Miami out for 3 loss Alabama" lol

I'm not sayin gthey will. I'm saying that is the path to getting in even with an SMU loss to Clemson.

That would mean 3 B1G, 3 SEC, 3 ACC, 1 B12, ND, 1 G5

I've been beating this drum since Sunday Morning:

The Suits want Miami-Notre Dame at South Bend. It's ratings gold. They have the excuse of Bama having 3 losses.

This is about revenue, pure and simple. Cam's presence plus the Catholics vs. Convicts Narrative guarantees a Prime Time kick.

I think we actually back into the playoffs with the 11 or 12 seed. We’ll probably lose the first game, but it’s still good to get in. I’m hoping it happens.
Me too. I just want to see Miami play a meaningful postseason game one more time in my life (I'm 30 and have been waiting since 2003).

I don’t give a **** the momentum and optics of being in the playoff or not is massive

I’m so excited to see like the 37th ****** filled thread of the weekend

One thing that works in our favor is just how bad that last Bama loss was. Held to 3 points by a dog OU team that finished .500.
A lot of things work in our favor, though I don’t expect it to ultimately, including that Syracuse will be ranked, and everybody saw Georgia Tech, regardless of whether they’re in the ranking or not, and that changes perceptions about that loss very quickly

Listen man I think there’s a chance we get the 11 spot but you’re high if you think Miami is gonna be at nine

Then put us at 10 and Boise st at 9. I'm just saying thats literally the only hope we have given a Clemson win over SMU. But idk why anyone would think its outside the realm of possibility we could be ahead of Indiana still. If you can debate Miami vs Bama why can't you debate Miami vs Indiana. **** any argument to have Bama ahead of Miami with 1 more loss can be used to put Miami ahead of Indiana. In fact it's probably easier.
