DT Tywone Malone enters Portal

Last I checked, we were 0fer on wideouts too, and the Kirk kid looks decent, but he still doesn’t move the needle enough IMO.
Would you have thought Rambo, KJ Osbourn, or Colbie Young were big time pick ups at the time they transferred in? turned out each one of those guys were probably the best WRs in the room when they were/are here.. every circumstance is different at skill spots

Well, I think one thing’s fairly certain… we have a recruiting problem right now at DT, outside WR and QB.

I get the reasons at QB and outside WR right now. I don’t understand DT. Hopefully this DT focus at the high school level pays off.

It’s also harder to sell guys in money years on taking a chance with their portal shot than high schoolers. There’s more immediate risk, especially at WR. Let’s hope for good news.

Really? I thought the discussion was "Tywone Malone enters the portal" lol. What a lame dodge, dude.

So you're really not going to answer? You're going to dodge the question and continue to manipulate and twist the facts because you can't stand the fact that Mario is actually doing well in the portal? You just can't even say it, can you lol? You'd literally rather rail on Mario than be wrong on an anonymous message board. This place is wild.

Ok buddy, new question, new subject!

Hey, @bobbydigius my good friend and fellow Cane, where do you have Miami ranked against other programs for the 2023 portal season. Include who teams lost and wanted to keep, and who they got please! Would love to hear your thoughts.
So now you are trying to steer the convo in yet another direction. How am I railing on Mario here? Show me the post where I say we are not doing well in the portal this cycle? You are the one that keeps twisting everything I say. So because I said the portal isn’t HS recruiting that somehow turns it into the BS you ranted off in that middle paragraph?

I stated my reasons why I said what I said. I base the portal as supplementary cycle so overall rankings don’t matter to me. Different teams will have different needs. For instance UGA isn’t ranked as having a top portal class but reality is that they dipped in got what they needed out of it. We have not addressed DT or WR properly and baring some miracle that is going to stand. We needed a ton of difference makers and we didn’t get enough to say we had an elite haul. It’s still a good haul, and I don’t know how many ****** times I have to reiterate that but there are disappointments, big ones.

Incredibly fair points.

We need to stay aggressive, be alert (for grad-transfers), and hope that someone will take a chance on us.

Then we go out and try to win as many games as possible, and do this all over again one more time a year from now.

Also this is interesting, it's from 2020 but probably still applicable. Across the NFL, teams were in Nickel (59%) and Dime (21%) more often than base (18%) .

So maybe we can survive without DT depth if Guidry uses his noggin.

Should I rename this thread DT Tears, or are we still waiting on confirmation that we lost out on Rose?

Here's a hint

I know he’s the easy answer and maybe it is that easy of an answer but is there something to his interpersonal skills and/or coaching skills???

He looks like a nice guy unlike Gattis who looks like the football coach version of Lumberg from Office Space.

Lets be real, this **** goes way deeper than an assistant. Its kids being weary until Miami shows that it isnt a lower tier program. Its painful to say but thats what we have become, and us getting our **** together in the last 12-18 months isnt going to undo that. We need to show improvement but luckily for us that will be loosely interpreted. As long as we score points and play a ton of the young kids, we will land another top tier class and by 24 should be able to make a move on 9+ wins.

Nothing wrong with Joe. He's not as dynamic a recruiter as Mario, but his breath don't stink and his drawers are clean (pause).

Remember that old CB coach that we had who was supposed to be such an anti-social weirdo?

Found this from last year. I didn't listen to the referenced podcast to find out what was actually said, but looks like it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

I get it but we are recruiting OL, TE, slot WR, Edge and LB pretty **** well. It’s not a problem at every position.

I don't think yall are giving the guys we have enough credit. we might not be loaded but we have guys that can get it done. Kam Kinchens said himself that the DLine was the biggest surprise during the spring. he said those boys are getting it done.

Correct, except the ones we recruited have started to hit the starting lineup during fall practice and look like studs.

But sure, if we want to do it your way, lets do it your way correctly: Lets hold grades and evals till January 2024 when the season is almost done?
Oh you read minds? Folks speak out of both sides. "Freshman class is an A, portals too early to tell. But some of those freshman who have not played a game looked really good in the spring."

No fella, I feel that the freshman class and the portal class are both strong. And of course we reevaluate after the season! Smdh.
