I believe that HS recruiting has been superior to portal recruiting. We have landed some nice pieces but not to the equivalent weight as the 23 HS cycle. Also, we missed on an outside WR in that class which we needed bad, but we got talented slot guys in Ray Ray and Robbie. DT wise, Horton is a net positive at least. Gore aint it and while Deen is a nice piece he gets negated because we lost DJ.

Yeah, we have to get at least one DT and one WR to get to a B+, as anyone we get will be imperfect.
Then, we'd need to see 2023 on-field performance to potentially give a retroactive grade-change to something in the A range.

LT and Deen are the only guys who’s been above average / to good in their careers. Moten has upside but he’s unproven. JHH is what he is.

Did Anez Cooper play DT in high school? Not sure if he can tackle, but he can definitely move people. Seems like a guy who would be considered if there was an injury to one of the top 3 DT's

Lichtenstein is a tweeter and just too weak to be used outside of obvious passing situations which even then he is meh at best.

You could make a sound statistical case that its going even better. Like I said, we have the 3rd best class by quality (we were 6th in HS recruiting) and we are probably the #1 team in America (unresearched) when it comes to retaining players we want to keep - or at the very least, the staff has done an incredible job there.
The problem is you guys are looking at the portal like it's HS recruiting. Like you can go out and recruit a "full class" that addresses all your needs. It's a completely different animal and people don't understand it yet. I get it, people are lazy, thoughtless, and this amount of activity is a new thing. The numbers just aren't there in the portal. This isn't Playstation. It's about comps.
Go comp what Miami has pulled in and what they (haven't) lost with other teams in the country and you tell me where you think Miami would net out and rank in the "portal season." Additions minus subtractions. You will be incredibly pleased with your new perspective.
And again, we're not done yet.

As more time passes it get more painful knowing that Justin Rogers would be in uniform here if admin wouldn't have gotten in the way. He is the EXACT body we need.
Defensive tackle and another starter at lb with maybe one more big corner would make me feel very good about our defense for next year

People are forgetting how maddening our recruiting was whiffing on top end talent at positions of need
Same thing is happening in the portal it’s just that the talent is much less in the portal

DT is one position you can’t depend on in the portal. Those guys tend to stay where they are. Osu going hard for Malone just shows you how valuable a dt is. He’s been an average player in college but the Pickens are even slimmer in the portal versus HS. Just another reason why I say spend big on the trenches. Other positions are easier to find.
He could’ve helped us tremendously man it sucks he’s going to Ohio state him and rose plus Moten would’ve had us sitting nicely

Yeah I hate taking transfers that are not projected to be impact player but at this point we do need more bodies. As it stands now we wont even have a scout team DL for the offense to practice against.

Stop with that condescending swipes about people not being able to comprehend and being too lazy to discern the difference between the two, they are weak and unfounded especially if those swipes are aimed at me. As I have maintained from the jump and many agree, the portal is supplemental meaning its there to plug holes and any comp is going have to be against whatever the needs of the team are, and in our case those are many. We have had the full offseason to address those needs and we know for sure that we will end up settling on 2 of the major ones, DT and WR. Yes we addressed OL in excellent fashion. We had a very good addition at LB and solidly addressed one of the 3 positions I considered dire needs in CB. I also like the RB pickup. Once again, Im not calling portal recruiting bad but IT IS NOT on the level of what Marion did in the regular cycle and what he is doing in the 24 cycle. HS recruiting is elite level, portal recruiting is decent. There have been numerous DT entries into the portal that would have elevated the room and right now it looks like we will settle, just like we will settle at WR. I dont understand why bringing up these facts gets everyone riled up. Its an objective observation.
