DT Tywone Malone enters Portal

And my point bringing in another JAG does absolutely nothing to improve the room.
That's where we disagree strongly. We have a quality AND a quantity issue at DT. We have 6 guys at the position right now. 1 has basically been written off as a bad eval and not good enough to play P5 ball in Gore, and another in Horton who isnt even on campus and counting on true freshman is just not likely. So what we have left is 4 guys, 2 of which are more on the smaller side but can be disruptive going upfield in JHH and Deen. We need to get someone that can play some snaps this season pronto. Of course in an ideal world that would also be someone that elevates the room, but in this case beggars cant be choosers.

Like I said, portal Mario isn’t HS recruiting Mario. People got mad the results speak for themselves. Now that’s not saying Portal Mario is trash, we got some good talent there but he have had some major misses and glaring holes not addressed for whatever reason.

How do you guys reconcile the endless criticisms with the fact that Miami has the 3rd highest rated portal class by quality in America right now? That we beat many top programs in America for a lot of these kids?

We've brought in better players than USC, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Oklahoma, Oregon, UF... literally everyone in the country outside of FSU and Michigan (barely, for now), who both have landed significantly less players than us btw.

The amount of truly desirable kids available in the portal is a fraction of what comes out of HS with the same amount of teams going after them. It's a **** of a lot harder to get 10 portal kids you want than 25 HS kids you want, IMO. And we've been pulling impactful transfers.

Miami is doing just fine in the portal, really ******* well in fact, and we've plugged a lot of holes so far, including turning a bad OL into probably the strength of the team by taking a starter away from ******* Alabama and the #1 center in America away from UCF. I think you guys are just getting complacent, not really appreciating what we've added so far. If you listened to the @DMoney and @Peter Ariz pod from earlier today, they discuss how people in the Hecht are incredibly high on Deen right now and what he adds. I mean, he was a good DT in the physical B1G, but this board can't see more than six inches in front of its face. We just took Nebraska's best RB, a young guy who people are projecting to the NFL. We just took Wake's best CB, a guy with the exact physical traits we've been looking for. Brown is an experienced CB with age and success who will start here. Mauigoa is a stud and a steal. And on and on. You all take a 40 kid recruiting and portal class and post 70,000 times on the one or two issues we still haven't addressed instead of focusing and celebrating the incredible job we've done in player acquisition (HS AND portal) so far.

Furthermore everyone is REALLY under-appreciating what an amazing job Mario has done with roster retention this year. Adding a good player doesn't matter that much when you have another good player walking out the door at the same time. Can't build that way. We've lost ONE impactful guy, IMO. ONE. In the two portal periods combined. That's insane. Look at other programs and compare.

This board needs to check itself. You all need to zoom out a bit.

We're not done yet, btw.

So to be clear, you think portal recruiting has gone as well as HS recruiting?

Just let guys like TwatBum continue to finger themselves to MTSU and DT recruiting. It’s been very clear for a while this board has an alarming number of trolls/guys that like to hate because it draws attention or a cheap laugh, which is sad considering the lack of affection they receive in life. It’s fun to play on a message board, but then they have to return to the real world. There’s disagreeing with a staff or decisions, and then there’s charades put on for months (or years) that are attention-seeking and reek of desperation. These guys (or girls) have no life. And it’s not just him, there’s a ton. He’s just trying to jump to the forefront so he makes a name for himself on here.

In the meantime, yeah not everything is perfect…DT recruiting remains a cluster****, same with WR…but yeah…we’re moving in the right direction and quickly at that. You add Sam to the DB room, now we’re looking like a 7-8 win team contingent on health. And we’re not done yet.

Yeah not C level. I would go B.

Cohen, Lee, Mauigoa, Brown, Deen, Richard, Allen all really good pickups. Most starters.

On top of Mesidor, Parrish, Jackson, Agude from last season.
If we get the guys expected on top of what we’ve landed it’s a B+ haul with a lot of quality. DT might be the spot we didn’t get what we wanted ( not over ) but other than that we nailed the portal. If people are ripping that they just have an ulterior motive.

I'm counting 7 total bodies, not counting Mesidor sliding inside at times

LT, JHH, Deen, Lichtenstein, Moten, Gore, Horton. Moten is the heaviest in the 320 range. We definitely need another guy

And my point bringing in another JAG does absolutely nothing to improve the room.

If we're talking about the kid from LaTech, I disagree. Yeah, he's a JAG, but we NEED a dude like that because we have very little behind JHH/LT - especially at that size. Would you say this kid is better than Jake? I'd say so, definitely.

It’s been kinda identical hasnt it?

I mean adjusting for the fact that there aren’t many elite talents in the portal and it’s more roster gap fillers than securing potential future pillars of the program

We’ve secured a couple of the portals best OL and whiffed on DT and WR

Just like recruiting

Top 15 based on what

Total portal points. However, we are top three in portal recruiting average at 91 something. The portal entries are regraded and given new star rankings.

Colorado will be #1 on sheer volume of total points but really low average for an opposite comparison.

Mario has done just fine with the portal. It’s only highlighted by the mopes because of the Malone and Rose news at the moment. Yeah they were important targets but we can’t forget the overall “portal class”.

Care to expound on WR? I know Kirk visited, how does the staff feel about him? Ive mentioned as have others its hard to get a feel on a JUCO kid's talent, appears we did well there last year with Young. Is there someone else?

Oh gosh, star rankings and all that stuff.

The only reason I'm considering it average is because of the additions at the O-Line and Mauigoa. Everything else is TBD and remains to be seen.
