DT Coach Joe Salave'a leaves to Arizona

Not trying to pump Mario's tires here and I know not everyone agrees but I do think the strategy of letting these guys "find another job" instead of firing them should be the preferred way to go about business. In obvious cases like Guidry, sure, fire the guy. But assistant coaches for sure see something like this and respect it.

All of that said, not sorry to see him go and agree with everything about his subpar recruiting. We can do better and I am glad we are not letting personal relationships stand in the way of getting better.

I liked him better than JT as a coach, but JT can recruit better so thats what matters to Mario. Hope he does well there

I mean, the guy has generational wealth and never needs to work again in his life. But he seemed dialed in every time I saw him on the sidelines. And we've gotten some **** good DEs these past two recruiting classes.

IMHO, the only two coaches that really needed to go were Guidry and Jackson. The others should be at the discretion of the new DC.

Surprising because a lot of recruits mention him and having good conversations.

Personally I think the Defensive Line Regressed tremendously last year when he fell back and Jason Taylor took over. Obviously Jason is a far better recruiter. That works for his style of game. Double moves and stunts though if you're going up against an offensive line with good communication then all you did is give them time to regroup all you're doing is slowing down your pressure. Double moves and stunts are used by guys who struggle to beat head up the man across from them. Do you use them from time to time Yes absolutely. You'd be a full not to. Cuz you never want to make it obvious where your pressure is coming from. But if all you do every down is the same thing and then your line starts getting stonewalled as a result of it, well maybe at that point you start to change things up a little. So for me as far as the defensive line coach someone that's actually calling are alignments our progressions the rest I like Joe far more as a d-line coach that I like Jason Taylor because I don't care about the recruiting anywhere near as much as I care about getting peak results out of the players that we do have. That's where the University of Miami has always separated itself. Now as a result of prioritizing Jason Taylor and all likelihood we just lost our Samoan connection. I'm definitely not happy about that prospect.

Honest question, was JT calling the double-moves and stunts, or was Guidry?

I had heard it was Guidry because he felt our DLs were getting held all the time.

How has this method benefited the program? Has it yielded top level coaching replacements?

I’m not a fan of JT either and Joe is certainly the better interior DL coach. The recruiting concern was he never really signed guys anywhere he’s been. He had like 1 4 star to his name in his career pre Miami. Of course that’s also pre NIL so it’s probably irrelevant. He just wasn’t going head to head with the guys recruiting for Georgia, Texas, Penn State, Ohio State, etc.

I think we need full new blood on the DL. Get JT out of here as well. I don’t want a recruiter only but there’s plenty of better options out there. Joe is a west coast lifer. Surprised he ever made the move here to begin with

So maybe you're not aware so I'll correct a little bit here. That's Samoan connection were speaking on netted more than simply Francis and Kiko and then tinolu. Just in the immediate, the Samoan connection is what brought Elijah lofton, It's also what brought us SJ in this class. SJ and Elijah's people are one in the same. They only came here specifically because of Joe. I know this for fact since I know Elijah and SJ's people pretty well. I have a feeling Gorman isn't going to be a stomping grounds for us any longer. But I'm hoping that I'm wrong with that part. Because at the end of the day they're at least pretty professional how they go about things at Gorman.


Far as get JT out of here, I certainly wouldn't mind it. But it's probably not going to happen. Maybe his title changes. I doubt that even. But we literally just cost ourselves Ryan Walters because jt was one of the names that we were fighting for. I know everybody likes to blame Mario for the names associated with the staffs etc. But JT was demanded to stay on by the board. Myself I would have far rathered have Ryan Walters here and everybody else on the defensive side of the ball could kick rocks. What stopped him from coming here was JT and Nicholson. We gave up on Nicholson's staying on staff. We conceded that but the board wasn't willing to let JT go. That's why Ryan Walters ended up at Washington instead of here.

I’m not for keeping anyone on staff if it costs us a good coordinator. Miami will stop at no end to **** something up so I don’t doubt it

Not really. That's why I said preseason The defensive line play was what the season was going to come down to. How quickly could the young guns get in the scheme of things. Our season really was reliant on getting as much pressure as possible each and every snap in the backfield. That's pain that's Barrow that's mesador that was blunt I was Scott etc etc etc. We really needed Scott and Bain & Blount to excell this season. Once I saw Scott and blunt weren't getting much opportunity once ACC play started it was pretty obvious we were going to regress especially when you factor in the injuries we were going through. Guidry's refusal to handle substitutions and JT signing off on them cost us long run. Like I said if we didn't get pressure by the d line continuously our secondary was going to get tore apart. Because our secondary needed time to grow up and grow together. As you saw all of that happened to a tee.

Jt calls line assignments. That's not done by the coordinator from play to play. That's just logic brother. You only get a certain amount of seconds that go into each snap and substitutions. You think the DC could be hands on with that too. It's obviously discussed when game planning where we're more likely to run that in. But it's a situational call in game.

You also got to understand then where recruiting comes from when everybody chooses to put the blame or the credit on one single person it's because all they're doing is looking at primary recruiters or where the mentions came from throughout the recruitment. Reality is recruiting is a staff concept. Not just your own field or you're off field more day-to-day is actually probably your support. So people really need to get through their head when they think all this guy's an amazing recruiter or that guy's a horrible recruiter they're not exactly using their brain to process things. Will one person have more interactions later on in the recruitment yes in certain instances but it's a team commitment not one individual.
