Do schools really pay players??

OP; all u have to do is watch the 30/30 on SMU football and their meteoric rise in the early 80’s. Of course bags have been and are still around. But our fan base have used this as a crutch for two long.

First off, ain’t no program snitching on themselves. I can tell you homies that went to SC even though they got broke off by Oregon, Tennessee and Nebraska. But y they chose SC? Yeah they got a little taste of some dough then, but it was b/c Carroll was that dude and he was building a pedigreed winner.

Bags only go so far. The end game in the NFL, so if a school is trash, it don’t matter how big the bags are, eventually. U can’t have a trash product on the field, period. That’s a turn off. Kids keep putting faith in us, and we constantly let them down on the field. So bags ain’t the end all.

It's not that complicated. Bags are in play. Everywhere. But, not to every kid and not at the same levels. It's not some standardized process. Do we lose kids because we're not maximizing them on the field? Sure. Does Bama get some kids because they produce? Obviously. Do we lose some kids because they prefer to go into a... 'better deal?' You know people. Ask around. This isn't binary.

And sometimes the parents like "the better deal" more than the kids...

I became a believer after the Patrick Johnson(Peterson) recruitment. That was my end of the innocence moment. It was going on heavily in the 00's. Ole Miss actually won a recruiting title lol

Because when you have a new coach players tend to give you some slack. Look at how well Richt was able to recruit when he first got here even though we were terrible the last 12 years or so. FSU has only really been bad the last 2 years and Taggert has just been telling the kids " we are building something here wait till I get my players in". He also can show players how he started out with a bad record as USF and at WKU, but he built those programs up and players buy that. If Taggert still sucks after year 3 players will stop buying it. Taggert also is known for being a great recruiter without bags. Mork has used bags his ENTIRE time as a HC at UGA. He has no idea how to recruit without bags.

UF is smart enough to fire their coaches relatively quickly. Muschamp only got 3 full seasons and Mac only got 2 full seasons and by the end of both those coaches time they were not recruiting well at all. Do you remember how much people where making fun of the Gators recruting class last year before Mac got fired? It was horrible. If they didn't fire Mac they would have had a class similar to ours and Mac actually won the SECE back to back years which is a lot more impressive than winning the coastal once. Now Mullen is playing in a ny6 bowl so obviously recruits will come pouring in like they did for us last year.
All valid points I’m just not seeing them face the repercussions we have to . I don’t see guys using them for bigger offers , the decommitment after bad losses , but maybe it just because I don’t follow them like I follow the Canes . Recruits would be clowning us for years if we had lost to GA Southern . Even with our best season in forever last year and UF and FSU having terrible season still they still only finished a couple spots behind us in the rankings . Even when recruits at UF were throwing up the U on a visit them mfs apologized smh . We don’t get the same respect

Has anyone given a thought that maybe the bagmen for Miami are refusing to support this coaching staff. they are willing to stop payments for recruits for a couple of years until there is a change. The only explanation as to why we only have 11 signed kids.

If you read the articles these bagmen are in the game for decades. willing to throw away a season or 2.

I was thinking this as well. Valid question IMO.

So I'm not really sure how recruiting goes behind the scenes. When people say GA and Bama and etc dropped the bag to land a recruit I always thought they were just talking ****. So is it true? Are schools boosters actually paying kids on a regular basis? How do they get away with this if so? Are we dropping the bag or are we a clean program? If not then why aren't we dropping the bag lol
Sure. Kosi was showing off the money he got from a booster.

Truth.

The funny thing about kids getting paid, it's the ones tryumg to catch up the most doing it rather than those already there.

Still, you will have people on this board acting like everyone is giving out cars and houses like they're giving a box of candy. They will say that the NCAA and its head are in bed with rhe SEC, etc. Truth is, the Feds would be all over that crap. Same with some investigative journalists wanting to make a name for themselves.

I still laugh at a poster who claimed Georgia paid over a million for a recruit. Yup, more than all but a few of the too coordinators and even some head coaches. The sad part, he doubled down on his stupidity.

The going rate for Tyson Campbell was 200k for his parents and a administration job on campus for his sister. The head of NCAA Mark Emmett was the AD at LSU when Saban won them a title in 2003. The NCAA likes to play plausible deniability when it comes to Bama, UGa, LSU but will act holier than thou and **** all over Ole Miss, Miami, SMU...ect.

The Feds are slowly but surely collecting evidence and the investigation is being led by a nerd type who has a personal vendetta against sports, specifically college football.

There is actually a loophole to which a “student athlete” can receive money and more than likely it’s what a bunch of these SEC schools do to not get caught. NCAA Bylaw 12.1.1.1.6, it basically says that a kid can receive “extra benefits” as long as the relationship was before they where a big time athlete I.e, that’s why guys like Genron exist (handlers).

Anyone who doesn't believe in the bag game straight has their head in the sand. It wide spread and varies from certain players getting "hand$hakes" to players' family members getting "jobs" that pay 6 figures. From scholarships for siblings to free cars. It happens everywhere. Obviously some schools are more brazen than others and some just have booster cash to burn but even the smaller programs are breaking off a piece for their star players. When I was at UCF in the late 90's Daunte Culpepper was driving around a brand new Lincoln Navigator. They had literally just made the transition from 1AA to Division 1 and players were getting gifts. The problem with the bag game and Miami is, in most small college towns the local media knows not to poke around and shed negative light on the program. In Miami, there's a line of bottom feeders waiting to break the story about Miami's latest NCAA transgression.

What I don’t understand about this is why aren’t FSU and UF held to the same standard . Why aren’t they looked at as joke when FSU just went 5-7 and a couple years ago UF went 4-8 and lost to GA Southern . They still don’t have problems beating us for recruits even when they’re straight trash or barely better than us .

They have better recruiters.
They also (both) have new coaches... Which can be use as an excuse for any failures this season.

Just my theory.

I don’t understand why a kid from Miami wouldn’t want to go to Miami. What difference does it make if they’ll play for a mediocre team, for a corch who gets fired, and underachieve their potential?
I see what you did there 🙄. Well played sir.

I coached 5 kids who are going D1 this year, 3 of which are going P5.

Coach, I agree with you. I get that bag$ happen in round about ways (infrequently) but your points are well taken, tried, and true. I'll add that Rickets doesn't give the vibe of confidence right now. Coach, you know this as well as I do. Teens see way more than adults sometimes give them credit for.
