2024 DL Kamarion Franklin 2.0 (commits to Ole Miss)

Fine by me. Copy and paste my post into either of those threads. My point being, you can’t say you’re going to sign the best DL class ever, knowing full well that all of those kids are going to require massive bags, and then when 80% of them go elsewhere, say you don’t have the money for the ones remaining.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Time to open the wallets.
its time to accept that being a great recruiter doesnt mean **** anymore at least this cycle. well land some top tier kids but overall, the biggest bags will win especially when you arent OSU, Bama, UGA type of a consistent winner.

were basically acting broke again.

Agree wtih this. Kid has talent. But Breland, Stone (and Scott) are all more talented. If we can't afford two NIL auctions, I would stick to our reservation price on Franklin and use the money to land one of the others. JMHO... And we still need to put a lot of money on the table for one more edge, plus a top WR.
Guess what happens to Breland and Stone’s bag expectations when they’re the only two left uncommitted and everyone is trying to land their services??

The best recruiter In the game is money like you said. It will be interesting to see if this nullifies Mario's one advantage over time. I know the saying is just win on here but think it needs to change to just pay.

It's a great point. I really wish we had been able to convince one of them to go out prior to Franklin. Maybe it means our budget is bigger than we thought and we really can afford two more? The investment decisions are all on Mario, Rad and the collective at this point.

I highly doubt it's that cut and dry. Most kids are smart enough to know that if the deal is in the same ballpark, they need to look at the total package, and that includes fit, happiness, coaching, exposure, NFL prospects, personal brand. I know there are companies and people I would never want to work for even if I were paid double. And kids want to work for Mario and JT, and I'll be they love the Guidry defense, too.

Not mad at this at all.

Also at this point we gotta just throw that best dline class **** out the window, **** was never realistic and i think it was more so saying they were prioritizing the dline this year.

Couldn't agree more

Correct. And they clearly have. They went after **** near every major DL recruit in America. I don’t think anybody sane thought they’d land even a decent percentage of them. But as the board has narrowed, so needs to the money. There is still plenty of time to sign one of the 10 best DL classes in the country, which would be a massive win, obviously. Even though this board wouldn’t agree, but that’s proven to actually be a good thing in relation to success.

But it’s time to spend money to secure your final few chances. If somebody like FSU, just as an example, has the money to flip Jones from us while also getting Bolden, Lester, swinging for the Chaminade kids, etc. and meanwhile you can’t/won’t match a bag for essentially anyone, then you’re broke. Maybe not literally in terms of every team in the country, but in terms of spending to compete for championships, you’re broke. We’ve all been told that’s not the case. Well, it’s time to show that.

You are a quality poster but that first part continues to be parroted and its simply a revisionist view. The goal was to sign the top DL class in the country and the sources we rely on told us that it was realistic. In terms. of the money, we are all speculating and it will always be easier to admit its money and not the fact that we are failing at doing what we thought was the one thing we were going to be elite at right away and that is recruiting. Still some big time players on the board but the lineup is dwindling. Its time for Mario to do what he was paid to do here.

With all due respect to every insider here and the posters who are considered great…There has to be some level of forming your own opinion here, we have to be able to objectively see things instead of just taking someone’s word as law even tho some guys are hella reliable and smart.

So the *goal* could have been sign the best dline class, as it should be if thats the focus this year but if people really thought that **** was realistic then u just gotta change your whole way of thinking with this **** because cmon man lol

We had just signed what was arguably the best OL class the cycle before. That class we signed was the best one in over a decade period where we beat out elite teams for multiple/many commits. We had some freak bad luck with Rashada and Cormani or otherwise its a top 4 class. I stand by that its revisionist to say that expectations werent to land one of if not the top DL classes in the country.

If it's all about Bag what's stopping Auburn from just not upping their bag and just waiting for NSD to up the bag? And you can apply it to all recruits. This is why continuously matching bags in August just doesn't make the most sense. I mean I guess if you’re confident the kid isn't gunna play games and be fully locked in after committing, that's fine. But if a kid is going to the highest bidder, why would you want to be the highest bidder 4 months early?
Florida bout to find out

Thats leaving out a world of context tho. We signed two of the top olineman and then after was developmental type of guys. Also the biggest difference with that comparison is we have two proven oline coaches on staff so of course we are more likely to land elite olineman way more than elite dlineman.

Also if we do land another top dlineman left we still can have one of the top dline classes. So its not like we have completely failed yet

Especially when we are going up against elite recruiters and programs for some of these players.

I don't know where this Ole **** stuff is coming from. The only way they land him is if they make him the centerpiece of their class, thus paying more than what either Auburn or Miami will pony up for a single player. Essentially, they'd be putting a yuge portion of their eggs in one basket.

And anyone who thinks Auburn isn't rich is delusional. They are rich and getting richer. Freeze has brought in money from old donors, and is creating new ones.
They will consistently have top-10 money.

NILs may be equal but you're ignoring bags.
I could be completely off base here, but if it’s NIL I’m guessing/gathering there’s paperwork and/or contracts in place? That’s part of why there was such a low decommitment rate last year?

I know nothing about the ins and outs of this stuff but if I was involved that’s how I would want it.

If it’s bags then it’s still open for business. No idea why people are acting like bags don’t exist anymore.
