Desmond Phillips

We have more pressing needs like OL, DT, and CB. I wouldn't mind keeping him, but there's always a desmond phillips in south florida every cycle.

Just like Richt said in his presser....we can't take everybody.

suck it up and get over it.

If we dropped him, it's a dumb decision.

I am excited about Richt and think he's a great recruiter, but his record as an evaluator is mixed. This would be highly disappointing if we dropped him.

he put 87 kids in the nfl

Regardless of whether Phillips comes we need an influx of speed at WR and RB. We also need a guy or two who can be great returners.

Seems like Phillips would fit that mold but if Richt has others in mind that fine. If we finish this cycle without addressing that major need then its a problem.

Disagree about our needs.

I think legit playmakers at the skill positions and in the return game are as big a need this year as LB (which we have address), OL, and CB/S.

No one knows how good his evaluation skills are yet....

There are lots of uncovered gems in Florida, especially south Florida...

Phillips could very well be one of these gems....

There are very few people in life who are "above" questioning their acumen - actually, I can't think of anyone who is....

i love how richt just started and everyone is already criticizing him.

AJ Green is possibly the best wr in the NFL this year. Gurley has is possibly ROY. i think Richt knows what game changing talent looks like. I'm trusting his judgment.

When it comes to the NFL of course the talent difference isn't that much based on stars bc that's were the filtering process takes place. The best of the best regardless of high school rankings will show themselves... but in cfb, who has time to hopefully find the 1 elite prospect that slipped through the cracks, that's a 2 star out of 10,000 other 2 stars?? When the field of 4 and 5 stars is much smaller to work with and yields better results when it comes to on field success in "BCS" level cfb?

This is why Golden is the worse coach in the history of the sport.... there is nothing wrong with taking in as many potential "train conductors" as possible instead of a bunch of coal shovelers smh

Five of the Top 25 receivers in the NFL are three stars or below from South Florida. Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, John Brown, Allen Hurns and Travis Benjamin.

Only three of the Top 25 were five-star receivers.

Breakdown of the top 25 receiving leaders in the NFL right now. Based on Rivals ratings.

Julio Jones, WR 5*
Antonio Brown, WR 2*
Odell Beckham Jr., WR 4*
DeAndre Hopkins, WR 4*
Brandon Marshall, WR 2*
A.J. Green, WR 5*
Larry Fitzgerald, WR 4*
Allen Robinson, WR 3*
Demaryius Thomas, WR 3*
Rob Gronkowski, TE 4*
T.Y. Hilton, WR 2*
Calvin Johnson, WR 4*
Greg Olsen, TE 5*
Jeremy Maclin, WR 4*
Jarvis Landry, WR 5*
Amari Cooper, WR 4*
Gary Barnidge, TE 2*
John Brown, WR ?
Mike Evans, WR 3*
Eric Decker, WR 2*
Delanie Walker, TE 3*
Brandin Cooks, WR 4*
Travis Benjamin, WR 4*
Allen Hurns, WR 3*
Doug Baldwin, WR 2*

13 are 4* and 5*

So about half are three stars and two stars. Not sure how that helps your argument.

And the point wasn't about five stars versus three stars. Of course the five stars are better on average. The point is that South Florida produces a disproportionate amount of underrated studs, especially at receiver. You have to take that into account every time you evaluate a local kid.

I was just putting the numbers up for anyone who wanted to see them. I have no problem dropping this kid, because regardless of what people say stars do matter.

Look at the first team all american list.

17 out of 23 players are 4 and 5 *

QB Deshaun Watson 4*
RB Derrick Henry 5*
RB Leonard Fournette 5*
OT Spencer Drango 4*
OT Taylor Decker 4*
OG Joshua Garnett 4*
OG Landon Turner 4*
C Jack Allen 3*

he put 87 kids in the nfl

Miami has more kids in the NFL than Georgia, and nobody is calling Coker, Shannon and Golden great evaluators.

Again, I like Richt and am excited to see what he does with this class. But we shouldn't blindly trust his evaluations.

Stars matter, don't kid yourself. Alabama, Fsu, osu, Clemson ain't winning with a bunch of 3stars... Signing a bunch of fringe 3star prospects to fill up a class from Miami is ok and all but this isn't fiu and it hasn't gotten us anywhere but have a lot of dead space on the roster while we wait for that "potential" to show up in college... Truth hurts but it is what it is.. This man richt knows what he's doing. He annually brought in top 5 and top 10 recruiting classes at Uga.

Last I checked Michigan St. is doing it with lower ranked kids.. they have a bunch of 2 and 3 stars sprinkled in with some 4's

kid could turn out to be a stud but maybe richt feels he has more pressing needs at the moment. you have to figure the man has a plan for what he wants to do and give him some latitude to implement it.

gotta admit, one thing that does scare me about Richt is the following........

he didn't really have any difference makers at WR ever since Green left. Just a bunch of 'guys' like Wooten, Mitchell, Bennett, Conley , etc.

That is inexplicable to me.

IMO you don't n't necessarily have to fill all 85 spots this year. . Leave some room for some studs after Richt has had a whole year to recruit.. Don't just fill them with bodies.. Who knows we may get some NSD surprises

I hate noles but Bobby was master at that and maybe Mark learned. At least there is hope he has a plan that has not already failed. Comments from couple of kids make it sound like Mark is on mission THIS year to prove some people wrong. I wanted Butch, but I am looking for some nole money this year. Wonder if they will have the feathers for it.

They have too, we don't.
