Desmond Phillips

Five of the Top 25 receivers in the NFL are three stars or below from South Florida. Antonio Brown, TY Hilton, John Brown, Allen Hurns and Travis Benjamin.

Only three of the Top 25 were five-star receivers.

Those guys are true recievers. Phillips is a qb that you hope can catch and learn how to be wr in a pro-style offense. Gray was good in high school running the ball but has had struggles trying to become a rb.

people on here are suffering from a sever case of PTCD (post traumatic corch disorder). So used to getting fugged by the AGs and dorito's of the word that they are not able to recognize/accept that we are in good hands with our legitimate and established coach (i.e. Mark Richt)

I trust that MR knows what he is doing

What ever happened to Darnell Solamon (Miami Central) if we were to land him is he an adequate replacement for Phillips? Does his "trouble on the Georgia visit" take him off of our board?

He appears to be an E/E kid.

Him commited to USF tells u everything u need to do lnow about what top schools think

Does it? I think his off-field issues is the reason people have stayed away from him . He probably deems USF a chance to play early and often. He's better than a lot of WR per his HUDL.

IMO he's every bit the WR Phillips,Devante (previous Central 4 star WR) so much more explosive than say an Ermon Lane but he was deemed a 5 star kid ... A joke

TOS is saying that Richt was impressed with his highlights and that this was all his (Phillips') call

So about half are three stars and two stars. Not sure how that helps your argument.

And the point wasn't about five stars versus three stars. Of course the five stars are better on average. The point is that South Florida produces a disproportionate amount of underrated studs, especially at receiver. You have to take that into account every time you evaluate a local kid.

Phillips is talented, but I'm fine with him not ending up in this class if we keep Bruce, get Richards back, and land 1 or 2 studs we weren't previously in the running for (i.e. Victor and/or Nixon).

Completely understand some being disappointed about losing a player they feel is underrated. I felt the same way when Terrell Chatman bolted late last year under seemingly different circumstances. But I'm curious to see how this plays out if we can land a surprise or two at receiver.

Seems like Golden's philosophy still has some affect on some fans, smart move on Richt's part, dumb move from the coaches who accepted his commitment without a coach. Phillips is a ball player but he will need time to get comfortable in the WR position. Every class varies, this class is filled with dominant WRs across the board, the big question becomes who Richt can replace Phillips with.

Still amazes me how Hurns went undrafted, breaks wr records at miami , has good speed for his size, good hands, played in a pro style offense, shown he can learn and improve.

evan hinson and desmond phillips gone, and jawon hamilton looks like he is about to decommit as well .......... now if only reginald henderson, jaquwan nelson, and deion jackson hurry and get lost we can get rid of the rejects that golden offered cause no one else would come here to play for his sorry ***......

richt comes and starts offering kids we should be offering like carlos becker and dontye carriere-williams.......thank god we got a coach with some brains and knows what kind of players miami needs........

Deion Jackson a reject? Bahahaha if he's not in this class it's his own doing (grades)

You guys are arguing based on an assumption that may not be true. Couple of unknowns here: whether Desmond decided on his own he would rather play somewhere else and we don't know who Richt will bring in to make up for the loss of Desmond's dynamic playmaking ability. I don't think Richt is coaching against his own success out the gate, and I believe unlike Golden he knows where he is. I'll be looking forward to see who he brings in to replace who we've lost, which I hope will confirm the idea that he's trying to elevate the mean level of talent on our team.

My questions are can Desmond catch and do you think someone offered him to play QB, say Temple?

Trying to discern whether or not if a kid is the next TY Hilton is the hard part. The odds of striking gold are a lot better with highly related recruits. If it were that easy, these 2 stars wouldn't be 2 stars.

This is hilarious...dude has good tape but im pretty sure Miami fans, Temple and Toledo arent the only ones that saw it. How do u expect more if u tripping over less. Golden is gone, we dont need to battle Temple for recruits anymore.

Deion Jackson is a stud but he packed up and left town after his HS season...not a good sign.
