DC Candidates

My CIS New Year's Resolution is to let stuff play out then serve up the wrong take on what just actually happened. Conserve my energy
hahha, this is funny cuz didn't you proceed to type up a 10 page post recently? Was it before or after this post?? lol Just pokin some fun - we all get suckered in eventually. **** when the season ended, I was so disillusioned that I canceled my YouTube TV and swore off football, then found myself trying to catch the CFP games on YouTube which basically means you watch .2 seconds cuz copywrite shuts them down lol Conserving energy is probably the way to go, but UM football is our kryptonite brother, we will eventually concede haha

I am an imperfect man lmao

2. So coordinators who are responsible for their side of the ball shouldn’t request to bring in their own assistants who they trust to execute their plan? I mean come on. If a HC hired a defensive coordinator because the HC believes in that coordinator and wants rhe coordinator’s system to be installed, why would the HC NOT want the coordinator to have assistants that he believes would execute the system that the HC wants (since he hired the coordinator and his system)?
I don't think whether the coordinator brings people with him or not matters very much. What matters is whether the coordinator is a good coordinator or not. Familiarity with Jackson obviously didn't help Guidry and our cornerbacks this year. Don't think any # of position coaches would have helped Gattis. He sucked. That was the problem. Just hire a good defensive coordinator this time. If, in fact the condition is that the new coordinator keeps Taylor, there may be some good hires who won't want to come here because of it. Am also confident there are good coordinators who won't give a ****, and probably be happy to have a guy who has recruited EDGE players at an elite level the last couple of years.

Then why does it hardly ever happen that coordinators bring in their own people?
I'm not even going to pretend anyone on CIS has done the necessary study in order to be informed on this issue. But I'll play along.

Mario hired Guidry on February 2/7/23. On 2/14/23, LB coach DNich was hired. Jason Taylor was promoted to full time assistant on 3/4/23. And then the following year, DB coach was hired from Guidry's staff while at Marshall. I don't know what went on behind the scenes (and neither does anyone else), and I don't know the language of each assistants contract (and neither does anyone else), but it appears as if Guidry had influence on Taylor being promoted, and DNich being hired. And when Addae's contract was up, Guidry influenced the hiring of Chevis Jackson. But ****, what do we really know? Not much.

I cannot believe this board is not up in arms over what a disastrous hire Henry would be.
I don’t give a **** anymore. I am tired of being Mediocre (7-5 over and over and over again).

Whatever hire it is, either be so good (whether we like the hire initially or not) so that we can’t start being a consistent 8-10 win team or have it be so bad that it just blows everything up and we move on.

I am becoming more and more apathetic after 20 years of this.

I would say only 1 of those are guidry hires. Hence the reason were even having this discussion because if they were Guidry hires I doubt Mario would be trying to "force" any of those guys on a new DC

Okay. Say whatever makes you hate Mario more lol.
Lol I don't hate him , one person in this thread says I think Mario can do no wrong and another says I hate him. I guess thats where we are in society you can't critize or defend without being categorized as a apologist or a hater smh

We've literally had an offensive staff and a defensive staff in two of three years that couldn’t stand each other. How you hire people that don’t align at all schematically then expect it to work is beyond me. The Qb coach and OC in 22 ghosted each other and couldn’ t stand each other. In 24 it was the DC and DL coach not jiving. You don’t have to be friends but you have to align in what you’re coaching / teaching. If not you end up with two horrible situations in a short period.
It’s absolutely crazy and indictment, but it’s also an indictment of all these people because your job is to be ******* professional and you’re getting paid to do so well and nobody tolerates that **** at work. Don’t hang after work, don’t be buds. Find. But if I’m all your boss unless the dc was hr level abusive, the can all go.

A POX on all of them.

Sure, but you haven't provided any proof for your criticism. Prove to me that Guidry did not have any influence on promoting Jason Taylor, or hiring DNich since both of these moves were made after Guidry was hired. Go ahead. I'll wait patiently.

Here is someone who we should consider hiring at DC. Look at his resume and experience and ND's secondary and defense has been the strength of the team. He is a rising star who will be a DC one day. Thoughts?

Mike Mickens

He's in the top 3 best CB's Coaches & evaluators in College Football.

The only thing is, he's never been a DC & never called plays.

I wouldn't be against it, but it would be a hard sell to this fanbase given his inexperience as a DC.

But he's absolutely a phenomenal DB Coach.

What criticism? I not criticizing anything I'm just saying coordinators hardly ever hire their own staff. Period...influence? I'm sure Mario asked Guidry's opinion which is normal but he didn't make the hires. Thats just not how Mario runs his program. Who on offense did shannon dawson hire? Nobody

Yes and our secondary has been a disaster up to this point. I agree with you, lack of experience concerns me too. But it might be worth a look. Miami needs to start thinking outside the box if we want to start really progressing in the right direction. Just because he has no miami ties doesn't mean he wouldn't be successful here. We need more than just good recruiters to be successful here. Thanks for your input. I agree with what you said basically.

Our best coaches have had minimal Miami ties historically
