DAY 9 PRACTICE THREAD - WITH DAY 9 INTERVIEWS

Tired of hearing about Grace's weight. He works out like a maniac and makes plays consistently in practice that only further reaffirms what we knew we were getting when we got him.

Gimme an undersized playmaker any ****ing day

The homie also had the quote of his recruiting cycle! When asked about Matthew Thomas picking FSU, Grace responded by saying that he made a good decision, "I wouldn't want to compete against me either"!!

Gimme an undersized playmaker any ******* day

This isn't the NFL, there are a ton of players who can "produce at a high level" even if they are undersized.

We shouldn't sell a kid like Grace short just because he weighs 210 and not 220-230, it's idiotic.

He is clearly extremely athletic and he can make plays. That's all I need.

Agree with you, this kid is going to be special. Kid makes plays and has elite speed.

I was a little worried about his size when he was a junior in high school. But at this point what other proof do you need? He makes plays seemingly every day. His weight is meaningless right now. Now you want to start talking. NFL and all that other crap, well then fair enough. Speed at LB is something we've sorely lacked. Explosiveness. Figs was supposed to be one of those guys. Grace is definitely one. Look at the impact Burgess has at Louisville. Grace is much better IMO. The weight thing is splitting hairs at this point.

#Canes RB Duke Johnson said he had no soreness in his surgically repaired ankle following Wednesday's scrimmage

#UM RB Duke Johnson on his ankle post scrimmage: "Everything was fine. Got in the ice tub. Woke up today feeling better than yesterday."

Good now sit his *** down until Louisville. Boy is good to go.

Burgess should be on this team, that's on Al because they wanted bigger LB's.

Better in practice than on Labor Day. He will have the film to correct his mistakes.

Ouch for Kaaya, pick six

Kaaya just picked by Jermaine Grace, who returns it for a short TD. Very next play, Kaaya hits Coley.

Jermaine Grace looking great. After pick-six, gets a touch sack on Kaaya.

Never heard that but ok!

How about this then, on their visit, he gave AQM his Miami hat so he could use it to commit on National TV. They call that a leader in my books.

Dallas Crawford: "I usually don't think, I just react to the plays..."

I really think this is part of what we've been missing--guys with instincts who just know how to ball...and who, just as importantly, are put in a position to maximize their abilities. It's why I hope we get guys like Carter and Grace and Choc tons of PT this year.

Dallas is going to make the safety group better.

Dallas is an athlete. The 2 safeties last year were the sons of an ex-player and a. NFL coach, not real athletes who we were able to slide under the system in Texas and get by I guess with the benefit of the doubt. We have real athletes at this position and I think we should notice a difference

What coached referenced his weight as a reason for not playing more? My understanding is that they will both be playing, but it will be based on the different sets we run with the ideal player playing that position for that set? I am excited for Grace playing a lot more, but I wasn't overly disappointed in Armbrister last season. He may not be an all around backer (he missed on some plays), but I have seen him come up and lay a hit. I guess we will know more as the season progresses.

We ran the same four-man front last year in passing situations. Only last year we were trotting out an undersized freshman and sophomore at the ends and Kamalu and Chickillo appear to have gained good strength this past offseason. Can't wait to see Chad Thomas work his way in there...

Matt Porter ‏@mattyports 1m

First group DLs running the 4-3 third down: McCord-Kamalu-Chickillo-Muhammad. Backing them up: Harris-Pierre-Thomas-Muhammad (again).
Expand

I've been screaming for that 4-3 alignment for a while. The backup crew is not half bad either.

I,m wondering if this 4-3 experiment may evolve into the surprise of the year. Staff must feel good about the DT position.

Is it too much to ask that this group doesn't stunt every time? Donofrio had some sort of boner for stunting aqm and mccord that he just couldn't quite satisfy despite running this play seemingly every....single....time they were on the field. The element of surprise was gone for this maneuver about midway through the second quarter of the UF game. Yet we continued to do it, over and over again, crashing our undersized and youthful DEs into the waiting mitts of offensive lineman that dwarfed them in size and experience.
