Day 4 Spring Practice/ Pro Day Discussion

I just hope Golden isn't the white Ty Willingham. Great recruiter, looks the part, bad gameday coach, not a great x's and o's guy.

I just like what I see and I believe in him.

This right here.
Those that believe in him know that winning is inevitable with Al. To date He's shown nothing less than being an excellent hire.
You can either see his greatness and bet on his future or you can't. Which is fine. Not everyone is a visionary. And those that aren't by the time they see the light have acted to late. Thankfully UM leadership value Golden long term and extended his contract to 2020.

what traits of greatness has he shown, in your opinion?

and UM extended Randy too, so that point is meaningless.

Communication skills, focus, passion, energy, intelligence, loyalty, accountable.
And Randy was begrudgingly given a 4 year extension after a 9 win season heading into his 4th year. Golden was given an 8 year extension heading into his 2nd season after a 6 win season.
Who do you think leadership was more sold on at the point of their extensions?
i'm not trying to compare to Randy because pretty much anyone is better than he was/is.

let me just ask you: what do you need to see from Golden this year? As far as record goes to either solidify your believe that he's great or to change your mind about him?

Barring injuries/major sanctions getting handed down(morale killer, transfers, etc.) 8+ wins IMO

9+ wins.
Only thing that would change my mind about him would be 6 wins or less.

so 7-8 wins means you'd be on the fence?

and would it be unreasonable to think that this team could go undefeated? we have a good, senior QB and an entire OL coming back, and on defense, there is nowhere to go but up. combine that with Al Golden and we are good to go, right?

why is only 9 wins acceptable?

everyones back, featuring a senior, top flight QB. why is that unrealistic?

defense is still a wild card. Injury at already suspect unit at DT would set the defense back that can impact wins. Also D'onofrio's coaching still isn't proven. I won't hold it against Golden for trusting his boy. However at that point if the defense fails due to D'onofrio's coaching I would expect him to make that hard decision and let his boy go.
Also severity of sanctions like another bowl ban can cause the team to tank.
So taking every possibility into account 9+ wins is where I have them.

And I do think if the stars and moon align this team can go undefeated. Unlikely yes impossible no.

its not, if we beat UF then its on!

i just don't get the fact that you were basing an argument on thing you clearly don't believe. Isn't that what would be considered trolling?

UF, FSU toss up games. 1 unexpected loss is not completely unimaginable IMO

I think the same thing beating UF and FSU means Miami is undefeated. Anything else is a upset on our part.
Undefeated is very real and I said this in one topic before.
This team with all of our holes could very well be in the national title hunt with our schedule. People saying 10-2,9-3, 11-1. Notre Dame had holes galore and they got exposed in the national title but they made it there nonetheless. Even with our holes we can make it.

Teams can improve drastically in one year from average to good.
2011 Texas A&M 7-6 to 2012 Texas A&M 11-2
2011 Louisville: 7-6 to 2012 Louisville:11-2
2011 Northwestern: 6-7 to 2012 Northwestern 10-3
2011 Ohio State 6-7 to 2012: Ohio State 12-0
2011 Florida 7-6 to 2012 Florida 11-2
2011 Notre Dame 8-5 2012 Notre Dame 12-1

Why can't a 7-5 UM team hit 11-1 12-0 Marks? I think this year due to the schedule we hit 11-1 or 12-0. No this insn't the greatest U team ever but we can definately still hit undefeated because of a schedule blessing.

EDIT:By the way the TAMU defense was terrible in 2012. They couldn't stop a lick. But nobody could stop that offense. IDK how OSU went undefeated in all honesty they are soo unimpressive. Their offense was shaky the defense was OK not great but yet they won every game?

i actually never said where I stood with Golden, i am only wanting to ask you guys who feel he is the "guy" why you feel that way.

This schedule is not hard.

UF is coming to our house(will be tough as ****, though)
FSU loses a starting QB and some pieces on defense and the OL

everyone else, we should win, hands down.

Our schedule is laughable and UiF at home helps. We will be favored in most every game we play but dammit if this team just doesn't have too many let-downs.

I mean, Virginia?
