Day 4 Spring Practice/ Pro Day Discussion

Morris will be the best QB in the ACC this year, fo sho.

Tajh Boyd is far and away the best ACC QB.

You can then argue between Morris and Renner for #2, but I'd take Renner.

I forgot about Boyd to but on the same token Tajh Boyd is facing some offensive overhaul up there. OL to RB to WR. Save Sammy Watkins....If Hopkins never left Clemson would proably win the ACC outright but with his departure, FSU losses, UNC's losses
I think Morris and Miami will end up ACC champions and we'll be ranked.

There are 5 games where it would be considered a sizable upset if we lose:
FAU
Sav St
Wake
Duke
USF

Then there are the conference games with trip-up potential:
GT (unconventional offense + no extra preparation time)
Pitt (weather)
UVa (3 in a row? Really?)
UNC (still have some talent and QB leader)

Finally, there are the rivalry games
UF
FSU
VT (to an extent)

I figure if we win the ones we are supposed to (5-0) and split the rest (4-3 - 2 rivalry losses, and 1 conference slip-up) that puts us at a baseline of 9-3. Anything more will be gravy, 8 wins will technically be an improvement over last year. 7 wins or less without a major injury will be very disappointing.

and on defense, there is nowhere to go but up
lulz - hardly sounds like an endorsement for 14-0.

my point being....if our defense improves 50% coupled with our O continuing to go up, there's nothing left but to go undefeated

lulz, 7-5 to undefeated

/ seems like the logical next step
//you doin work today Duvie

check out the post by that guy on page 3 i think that shows the list of all those teams that made similar leaps

there are only two games where we should be concerned about

FSU and UF

THATS IT!

Teams can improve drastically in one year from average to good.
2011 Texas A&M 7-6 to 2012 Texas A&M 11-2
2011 Louisville: 7-6 to 2012 Louisville:11-2
2011 Northwestern: 6-7 to 2012 Northwestern 10-3
2011 Ohio State 6-7 to 2012: Ohio State 12-0
2011 Florida 7-6 to 2012 Florida 11-2
2011 Notre Dame 8-5 2012 Notre Dame 12-1

huh....wtf

everyones back, featuring a senior, top flight QB. why is that unrealistic?

I like Morris Duvie, but "top flight" QBs complete more than 58 % of their passes bro

he's a top flight guy who has the ability to lead us to a 'ship

no excuses this year

14-0

What you are doing Duvie, it's obvious, but continue.......

//again NO top flight QB completes 58%, N O N E

Guys dropped SOOOO many balls last year though at the same time. If guy's caught half the balls that were dropped Morris would have 64-65% completion like he should this year. NO more drops.

im with you. Coupled with the fact that:
-VT is down & we get them at home again
-UNC loss their star Gio
-FSU lost their QB and their star DE's, CB & OT
-we get UF at home minus their best players Elam, Floyd & Bostwick

Communication skills, focus, passion, energy, intelligence, loyalty, accountable.
And Randy was begrudgingly given a 4 year extension after a 9 win season heading into his 4th year. Golden was given an 8 year extension heading into his 2nd season after a 6 win season.
Who do you think leadership was more sold on at the point of their extensions?
i'm not trying to compare to Randy because pretty much anyone is better than he was/is.

let me just ask you: what do you need to see from Golden this year? As far as record goes to either solidify your believe that he's great or to change your mind about him?
9+ wins.
Only thing that would change my mind about him would be 6 wins or less.
so 7-8 wins means you'd be on the fence?

and would it be unreasonable to think that this team could go undefeated? we have a good, senior QB and an entire OL coming back, and on defense, there is nowhere to go but up. combine that with Al Golden and we are good to go, right?

why is only 9 wins acceptable?

defense is still a wild card. Injury at already suspect unit at DT would set the defense back that can impact wins. Also D'onofrio's coaching still isn't proven. I won't hold it against Golden for trusting his boy. However at that point if the defense fails due to D'onofrio's coaching I would expect him to make that hard decision and let his boy go.
Also severity of sanctions like another bowl ban can cause the team to tank.
So taking every possibility into account 9+ wins is where I have them.

And I do think if the stars and moon align this team can go undefeated. Unlikely yes impossible no.

TAMU defense was a wildcard as well all they had was Damontre Moore! Look how many points dudes was scoring against A&M.
But A&M started outscoring cats and it was over Miami can do the same especially in the ACC.

I see one undefeated team, that played NO ONE and got a new HC

I'll hold my breath and hope you are right

/ still see what you are doing, but it's working......

// I'd take 10-3 and giggle all season

/// I can't get out of my mind what KSU and ND did too us, we were blown out

Statistically, with what Morris will be throwing to, yeah I can see him putting up better numbers than Renner.

But yeah, having an experienced QB is definitely a plus.

Morris has better talent than Renner so in that regard, he will be better. i'd take Morris...dude is due for a 3500-3800, 30TD year.

He should definately hit that mark. But listening to Golden during the spring has me worried that he doesn't want to go UP-tempo again because the defense has improved. In one interview this spring Golden said "Last year I looked at the team and I said man we are going to have to score a lot of points. This spring I don't feel that way. I think we're in a lot better shape this year than this time last year."

we will see. i remember that interview. logic dictates that he(morris) will be better, even more efficient and that guys around him will improve. i expect big thing this year!

I've seen all that I need to see from Golden. I don't really give a **** about Gameday X's and O's because quite frankly that doesn't mean ****.

The Preparation
The Plan
The ability to Motivate (See McGee, Henderson, Streeter, etc.)
His stress on conditioning
His passion and energy
Recruiting like his hair is on fire in the midst of impending sanctions
Every major job opening in the country, FIRST makes a call to Al Golden

I have faith in em and I'm terribly confident in him. Maybe I'll be proven to be wrong, but I doubt it. I won't call him great yet, because that comes with the results, but I don't have any doubt that he is the man for the job.

Of course I do, I heardabout it forever, they were decent the year before and didn't get beat 93-16 combined by the two best teams they played, think their worst loss was 10 points

you are what your record says you are. doesn't matter how much you get beat by.
