Day 3 Spring Practice Discussion (Photo's,Video's, Reports)

So, uh. Why were Scrontavaiatrous Carter and Demafacturatrix Jones listed as standouts earlier in this thread?

Not hating. Very curious, and hopeful. If those two dudes turn into players...

Because, they're already redshirt freshman and they haven't even cracked the starting line up yet. Don't you know, these 3 star recruits are suppose to be studs straight out of high school. LOL

Not saying they can't but it's going be awfully hard. Herb, Malcolm(if he comes back healthy), Lockhart(same as Malcolm), and Coley will all be ahead of them on the field imho. Not every kid that signs is going contribute much and I never thought Jones would, Carter was/is a toss up. Jmho.

I understand that not every player will pan out. I was wondering specifically about these two guys and what ACTUAL information people were relying on to indicate that they won't succeed. Neither played last year, so I'm curious how anyone was able to formulate a legitimate opinion on either.

I never thought they weren't. Some questioned one or the other based on lack of hype.

But seeing it happen, to compliment a WR corps that played well enough in 2012, would be ******* righteous. I mean, we already had guys to fill roles:

Dorsett: Speed-threat
Hurns: Possession guy
Scott: Physical brute
Warlord: Burly TE
Lewis/Waters: Young all-around studs

But there were roles we were missing:

Mossy: Red Zone/Deep threat
JimmyG: Speed TE

Either one of Carter or Jones develops this year, and we have a Mossy Deep/RZ threat. That's on top of everything else. And that's absurd. You can't trot out enough defensive backs to handle all the receivers on this roster if one or (heavens to Betsy) both of those guys ball out this year. Along with Stacey Coley. And Enter Sandman. **** is just intoxicating to think about. I didn't even mention Lockhart. We're a long ******* way from trotting out the ******* kickers to run square-ins.

Dmoney, I dont think ive ever seen a 6'8 320 DT, playboy. I like the thought tho. I do agree that we need a big body in the middle if we gonna be using 3-4 sets after Porter leaves next year.

I think Caesar O'Neal was the biggest DT here ever and well, that didn't exactly pan out well.

Corey King = Strongest Hurricane according to weight room numbers so I'm not too surprised.

I read that, but it is still Corey freaking King. many on here (myself included) seriously doubted that scholarship.

I'm still doubting it.

He's one of those strong guys that doesn't know how to use his strength *(yet). Hopefully he's not another Andrew Bain in that regard.

There have been "whispers" that one of these guys is a gamer and the other is not. I honestly can't remember which one was which, but I believe that some insiders were saying that Jones was not a gamer, whereas Carter is. Anyway, tifwiw. I'd like to see these guys get on the field somehow (STs, etc.) to take advantage of their big bodies and athleticism.

I've heard others suggest it, but seeing how flexible Odogwu is and how low he can get makes me wonder if he can play defense. From what I've heard, he's very fast for his size and can run all day.

He looked fast in the short clips. Like his burst to meet Hamilton was extremely quick. He even was quick when he met Grimble the second time.

I shall enjoy seeing Kehoe develop the talent this guy possess.

From Brennan. Said they performed well today he also mentioned that if they want to get some PT they'll have to beat put guys to get to that number 3 WR position. So it sounds like he's set on the two starting WR's but is holding the open competition for the number 3 and four spots on the depth chart.

Because they were here for 10 minutes and redshirted, so that is enough time to judge someone.

You say that like there werent all the usual things to consider. People yap about 'stars,' But there's plenty more than that available for those who want to find it. Physical attributes, skill level in HS, outcome against other top kids at camps (or lack thereof), reports from HS rcruiting analysts and other HS corches, game tape, interest from other legit schools (or lack thereof), whether our own staff targeted them early, etc.

In thruth, Jones and Carter were pretty out of the blue, so there wasn't a lot for our own staff to go on with these partcular kids, amd there was much less for fans to base a view on than is normally the case -- which in and of itself is a datapoint. Personally i liked Jones tape in terms of going up and getting after the ball, but he was wiry thin, not so tall that that was a huge advantage, and not that fast. Some folks who tend to know what they are talking about viewed him as soft, and not a D1 kid. Carter struct me as 100% a project -- solid frame, reasonable athlete, but who knows and little to go on. Just given the odds, kids like that often struggle to see the field -- particularly when they come in at WR in a class that included Lewis, Lockhart and Waters (and AJL originally). That's just math.

I guess i dont get the attitude that sees all kids as equally inscrutable before they arrive on campus. I'm not saying you're saying this but others have come close at times. Why pay attention to recruiting if that's the case?

This. That boy Jones got some glue on his fingers.

I think Jones could develop in to a nice college WR. not a gamebreaker but he flashed some good potential in his film IMO

D. Jones is around 6'4 and has some talent, me thinks he might turn some heads before his time in Coral Gables is up. We weren't the only major school after him.

Not a bad offer list

Jones, 6-foot-5, 190 pounds, even had offers from UCF and USF, as well as Arkansas, Duke, Louisville, Marshall, Middle Tennessee, Rutgers, South Carolina, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

was that agreement or sarcasm?

Can't possibly be sarcasm if Arkansas, Louisville, Rutgers, South Carolina and West Virginia offered. All of them being ranked at some point in 2012. Arkansas was a top 15 team in the pre-season polls in case ya'll forgot.
