Day 3 Spring Practice Discussion (Photo's,Video's, Reports)

Porter needs to be in a protective bubble 6 days a week, for us to get to where we want he has to be healthy. He is a difference maker on the D-Line.

Man Chick and Seantrel were getting after it in those one on ones. Can't wait.

If you call being double teamed in most games because our DT's didn't need to be chipped or doubled then yeah I guess. SMH
He was awful last year and while I don't think he is as good as some thought he is still **** good and I expect an All Acc type year. Not first team but still All conference.

He was not being double teamed all that much, but I keep reading that here. He put on more weight because he needed to and lost any burst he had. It is what it is, but I expect a major improvement this year. Yes the DTs were disastrous in their own right but let's call a spade a spade, Chickillo had a bad year last year.

If there is no pressure in the center of the pocket it makes it easy for the quarterback to step up away from edge pressure and allows the opposing OT's to work the passrushers out and around the backside of the play. Chick and the other passrushers numbers suffered last season because the center of our Dline resembled the grand canyon on most plays

I've heard others suggest it, but seeing how flexible Odogwu is and how low he can get makes me wonder if he can play defense. From what I've heard, he's very fast for his size and can run all day.

In 2014, we need a swing tackle pretty ****in' badly.

In 2013-2015, we need a long defensive lineman pretty badly.

I don't think he's ever played defense so this is entirely speculative. But he has several attributes that translate, and he seems (judging only from this video) to have the flexibility to play low despite his height.

Isn't that Kamalu's job.

If the corches have managed to finally get big Hendo to turn on the intensity in practice, this dude is in for a monster year. He'll have a Bryant McKinnie type contract year.

My only point is that I feel his contribution to the team is potentially bigger and more valuable at backup Tackle in '14 than trying to develop into a DT. Our performance in recruiting DTs this year is the real story.

Dmoney, I dont think ive ever seen a 6'8 320 DT, playboy. I like the thought tho. I do agree that we need a big body in the middle if we gonna be using 3-4 sets after Porter leaves next year.

Like what im hearing from R.Scott. No more playing around. Im sure he knows he is on his last chance and he is taking advantage of it. Because Herb Waters and Coley are gonna be gunnin' for that 3rd receiver spot behind Dorsett/Hurns.

I predict this oline gives up 15 or less sacks this year. I know it sounds crazy but I really think we could be killers in pass protection. Now run blocking is a whole nother story. Smh.

We need this dude at OT just as badly -- our OL depth chart is actually worse than our DL one -- it's just that the guys on it are better. But we'll lose most of them in the next two years, and those positions take time to mature and gel.

Agree with Lu, messing up DT recruiting was the big problem this year. But we have bodies there, and just need to hope we can get two really good prospects plus a juco next year.

Have we always ran our entire practice with rap music blasting? I love it.

they never did this. they did play the fsu chants when we played them ad nauseum.

and for away venues they would just pump in random noise, you know the ones that sunlife pumps.

Shayon Green looks like he's about to keel over and die at any moment.

You can just see the toll those injuries have taken when you look at his stiffness laterally in that drill as compared to someone like Chick. And Chick ain't exactly Jason Pierre Paul.
He had decent #s last year, wasn't he the leading tackler on the D-Line?

/very stiff

He was the leading tackler, and that speaks volumes about the lack of talent on our def line last year. We need exponential gains from those guys.

Calais Campbell plays inside and outside at a high level, and he's 6'8. The question is whether Odogwu is flexible enough to consistently play low. Based on that very short clip, he seems **** flexible.

I'm not saying Odogwu's future is on defense because I've never seen him play there. But I'm curious. We don't need bodies on the defensive line, we need players.

No doubt. Seeing chick go toe to toe with the big man was good to see as well. He's added a ton if size the last year+ and its time for him to show it on the field. Too many snaps last year but he played a **** of a game against GT.
