Daily debate: what QB would you want over Carson Beck?

If he’s healthy he’s going to win 10 games here. He’s a super senior who has really only played in big games and now will be ready to get himself in the right spot again for the NFL draft. We need one more WR and likely another TE but I think the offense can be effective this year knowing all we lost.

For a fun factor Jennings or sellers would be good.

If beck is healthy im content. For the klubnik vs beck debate I think Mario is going to do power run more and beck is a better fit for that then klubnik would be.

We had an anomaly in cam last year I think Mario just let him go out and play. If we were going to run the same offense then klubnik would be a better fit. But we are going to play poession ball and beck fits that better.

Was in the middle of making a list but didn’t know if J meant realistic options or just in general lol.

Nuss or Raiola would be my picks by far
Just in general. I think “realistic” options we did as good as we can possibly do

I remember those days and weeks when we started having to think about Nickel or Emory 😬

I liked the one kid that ended up at Duke but the portal was underwhelming. Mendoza was not it imo

Idk if Sellers will ever be a great passer but better believe I’ll be there watching him as often as I can this year since I’m local

He’s a monster

Having a mobile QB like him would be a good if for this years team if the young WR’s won't be ready by the start of the season and will need some games to settle

He should improve as a passer this year as well, not as good of a thrower as the other ones I mentioned but man, imagine designed run plays with him and our oline. Would have Sellers looking like Josh Allen in the redzone

Nobody knows what Arch Manning truly is as he's never been a starter but yet we would rather have him as our QB over the proven guy whose actually on our roster?
Arch Manning is a fairly known commodity and this board would have been ecstatic to land him in the portal. Carson Beck could be very good for us, but it is almost entirely based on his recovery from injury.

I don't think it is unfair to ponder the question of what QBs would we have liked to see:
  • Beck - Injured. Missed Spring Ball
  • Emory - "Miami feels good here" -- horrendous in the bowl game leading the #1 offense in the country
  • Mendoza - That Mario locked in on him or Emory in September was the problem with Mendoza, but then Mendoza was not having Miami's slow play --- he went elsewhere
  • Mateer -- Seemed locked to OU based on coaching moves -- then heard we put the eggs in that basket -- Would have been solid, following Cam at Miami
  • None of these were Cam. We also did not replace RB1, because, well budgets -- so to not replace RB1 and then unload the budget late in the portal for an injured Beck, seems ill advised.
The most fun for some of us re: Beck is simply that we have not only been seeing this guy was "cheeks" while at Georgia in previous Georgia game threads to now (still injured) seeing him thought of as a great get by Mario, while also seeing groundwork laid as to his vacationing and work ethic ... It is CIS mental gymnastics.

I hope Beck comes back and balls out. Playoffs or bust. For those that can watch other teams and discuss them like adults, we will also see how the other teams, acquisitions, etc play out across college football. (I know this is not regularly accepted discussion here as evidence by this thread)

Overall yes he is. But he hasn't had any time to develop either. Coming out of high school I thought he was really overrated. After seeing him get reps now I see the potential and it is HIGH up there. But a long way to go and that system makes people look better than they are.
Question; Why don’t all teams run systems that make the QB’s look good?
I agree with what you have written, but should UM not run a QB friendly system?
Unless you are saying that the system makes QB’s look good but doesn’t necessarily produce the team results which are, of course, the most important thing.

I’ll play. Although, I only saw 2.5games of his., the kid from ASU Leavitt showed talent.

I think our next NC will be with Nickel behind center. My $0.02.

Go Canes!

- Garrett Nussmeier
- Josh Hoover
- Behren Morton
- John Mateer
- Chandler Morris
- Sawyer Robertson
- Rocco Bect
- Dylan Raiola
- Owen McCown
So Beck was 3rd best qb in portal for you?And we went for Mateer but all his coaches went to OU and hes from there right?
I would have liked Morris at much cheaper freeing up a lot of money for another WR, DT, and LB all at the cost difference between him and Beck. However I absolutely think Beck has a much higher ceiling than Morris….

Seems like staff did an excellent job two years in a row at QB to me.

Anyone would’ve been ecstatic to get Arch the kid has great potential, but given what was in portal we did very good by getting beck in my opinion..Mateer was never coming to Miami so I agree the staff wasted valuable time there. But besides him I don’t see any QBs we could’ve got that entered who were clear cut better then a healthy Beck. The injury concern is valid but you either take that risk or roll with Emory & I think we both know what the obvious decision is there.

Only name of someone who was realistic is Mateer.

I'm not even convinced Arch is better than Beck, but regardless it's pointless to talk about because he wasn't transferring.

Gun to my head, I *probably* take Mateer over Beck, but IMO we got, at worst, the 2nd best possible outcome. I wouldn't have taken a single other portal kid over Beck.

For sure - Klubnik, Leavitt, Mateer

Maybe (depends on Beck’s recovery) - Nuss, Arch
The best thing about Klubnik is that he can run, other than that., definitely overrated as a QB. If he's lucky he may go round 2, but he has career backup/journeyman written all over him. College QB? sure, he has the grit, among other things, to generate some love.

If we're not just talking about transfer guys, I would have to go with Allar.

So I've invested a few minutes glancing through the last 7 pages. Nuss, Mateer, Manning, Klubnick ... and @Dwinstitles is hot taking us with Lagway. So even the mopes can't come up with more than 4-5 guys they'd take over Beck. Are we close to being able to use the C word ("consensus") that this guy if healthy is a playoff caliber QB?

Sanders was a really underrated RB for them last year. He was punishing

They were a fun team to watch for sure especially because Beamer was kind of a dumbass and kept it interesting when it didn’t need to be

Yeah, that’s probably an exaggeration but there was definitely a contingent here that wasn’t sold that he would be the answer. Even though I thought he was by far the best option available, I didn’t think he would be as good as he was for us. Cam’s incredible season seems to have blurred a lot of the history. I am 100% positive if we would have polled everyone last offseason who they would prefer Cam or Carson Beck, 90% of the board would have said Beck. ****, half the people here didn’t even know who Cam was until we started shopping for a portal QB.
I guess I'm in the 10% then.

Not saying I would 100% choose him over Beck, but players can’t inprove? You are comparing a 2023 version of Cade, completely skipping the amazing year he just had most recently, vs 2025 Beck? Does that make sense to you? Honest question?
Amazing year? completely disagree lol. The only thing Klubnik was even actually far better than Beck THIS year at was Turnovers. Well and obviously running since Beck isn't a scrambler. Cade did NOT have an "amazing" year. He had a much better year than the previous year. I gues you can say his improvement was amazing because most people thought he'd be complete *** again. But his performance/production this year wasn't even close to Becks in 23 or obviously Cams this year. Cade was like Max 5-10% better than Beck this year?... which was like 25% worse than Beck in 23? Basically Becks bad season was not all that much worse from Cades best so far. Now we will see which improves the most for 25, as that is all that matters going forward. But Beck has absolutely been the better player in totality thus far. And he is far more trustworthy imo - with the major caveat being him returning to full form from his elbow injury obviously.

DJ is a regular *** QB get his name out of here.
