DAILY DEBATE: What is a successful season to you?

Win 10 or the fat lady starts warming up her vocal cords.
  • Don’t leave the slate of Florida first five weeks.
  • Most talented roster in the ACC
  • 2-4 in one possession games in 2023
  • On paper loaded in the trenches in the ACC, Major questions in the secondary but that can be alleviated with elite DL play
  • Elite special teams
  • Best set of WRs, Restrepo 3 yards per route run = explosiveness
  • OL was 10th in pass blocking in 2023 and 21st in line yards, I expect to be around there again in 2024.
  • #1 DL in conference - Bain, Barrow…25th in havoc last year, expected to improve on that number

  • 8 spots we’re a projected double-digit fave. EIGHT. The others are opener @ UF, 7-point fave vs VT, @ Louisville (I’m slowly moving down on them this year), and vs. FSU.
10 wins or bust.

It is Year 3 at the University of Miami. The time for being satisfied with positive trends, cultural growth and development, moral victories, and marginal improvement is over.

Win 10+ regular season games. Play in the ACCCG. Maybe make a playoff game (if we don't, at least win whatever bowl game we play). No embarrassing losses (which I will define as getting blown out, losing because of an asinine coach/player error, or losing to any non-P4 school on our schedule). Finish the season ranked in the Top 15. Top HS recruiting class in the conference.

So my absolute floor is 11-3, with a bowl win following an ACCCG loss and playoff snub, ranked 15th or better, and having signed the best HS recruiting class in the ACC again. I'd call that a successful season.

*Obviously significant injuries to various key starters is always a caveat. An especially injury-plagued season could have me revisiting some of the above.

I think the 2025 recruiting class is the first real Mario Cristobal class. We had to fix the high school culture first

I put 2028 is our year in my profile for a reason

Minimum for me is 9 wins. I know we have all the pieces in place this year to be better BUT that is my minimum. Overall, I'd like to see us improve by being more efficient, less turnover prone and be not just physically stronger but mentally stronger. That goes for both the players and the coaches.

The talent is there. The schedule is favorable. The coaching staff is mostly intact and has improved. Give me at east 9 wins and pleasantly surprise me with one or two or three more!

A good record isn't enough.

I don't want another 10-win 2017. I don't want 3 games that come down to a miracle on the last play.

Anything under 9 regular season wins feels like a failure, barring extreme circumstances (Ward missing majority of the season, team gets some sort of recurring parasite that presents with diarrhea every Saturday)

Absolute dog crap schedule
One of the best QBs in the country
Favorable talent/blue chip ratio relative to scheduled opponents
Prison Mike was able to win 10 games in year 3 in this very conference

The recruiting has been top notch, but it has to start translating into results on the field. Not even talking about a natty, or even playoffs, just 10 wins. It shouldn't require 85 all-conference caliber players to get that.

Anything less than 11 is a disappointment

Must win 10, must win ACC, can't risk an at large bid. Must beat Florida. Those three make it successful, 2/3 is a failure
