DAILY DEBATE: What is a successful season to you?

Double digit W’s anything less is a fail with our favorable schedule-

It’s year 3 we have enough talent to win the ACC and be one of the 12 teams-

I do not want to hear the same old tired excuses-
If this coach has anything similar to the GT debacle and it cost us a spot in the ACC title game or one of the 12 spots-

I don’t need to comment on what would be an epic fail.

Win the games where they’re the favorite. No stupid losses. Make the playoffs and win at least one game.

IMO....9 wins with this team and THAT schedule would be a disappointment. Nine wins probably doesn't win the ACC or get you into the playoffs either.

9 wins means Mario finds a way to lose THREE games on THAT schedule.

Sorry, the expectations should be higher this year. It's not going to be every year we have a QB like Cam Ward.
Eh there’s probably gonna be a disappointing loss in there but id still say its a successful season. We have a really good team, but yall expectations might be too high lol

We don’t have overwhelming talent so games will be close and then at that point cfb has shown anything can happen. We still have holes in this roster, and even in the spots where the players are good they aren’t just elite to where we’ll just cruise

Its always been anywhere from 9-3 to 11-1 to me

The game of football REALLY breaks down to three positions.

OL
DL
QB

We are EXCEPTIONAL in all three regards and play an absolute cupcake schedule. This is ME you're talking to here...I've been the king of low expectations on these boards for the better part of the last 10 years.

I'll say it again, 9 wins would be a relative disappointment. We probably won't have a QB the caliber of Ward again for a while. Mario MUST capitalize on that. This season isn't about winning a natty....there are 5 CLEAR elite teams and we aren't one of them....but we sure as **** are in the conversation starting at #6. This year is essentially one big marketing campaign to sell the new generation that Miami is once again a football destination. This is the year Mario the coach helps Mario the recruiter do his job at an even higher level of efficiency going forward.

Honestly last season it felt like we were handicapped by coaching.... like every game we were being outcoached.

We have the resources now and can get the players. The question is do we have the right staff to pick the right pieces and put together a successful team.

Im not as high on our oline as everyone else is, i think its a good group but not elite or exceptional. Dline im super high on our pass rushing, run stopping i think will be good as well but more by scheme than our personnel. Qb, im as high on cam as anyone i was when everyone was talking about 1a/1b with will howard lmao, i posted i would have had him high on my draft board even last year

Also think we way are closer to #10 than we are #6, i just don’t think the talent is what u all think in alot of the areas. Its good enough for us to win 9-11 because of the acc and cam but its not good enough to dominate the conference or for me to have unwavering confidence as u do lol. I haven’t even mentioned our coaching yet either lol so yea..

I do agree it is a big year for the program tho, and i think we will be successful but i dont think we are at the level you are describing

Fair enough...notice I said "starting at #6"...there is definitely an argument for MIchigan and Notre Dame to be ahead of us at #6 and #7. In my eyes we are absolutely at least the 8th best team in the country, talent wise. It should be noted we play a MUCH easier schedule than ANY of those 7 teams I have in front of us.

Either way....I just don't think there are is excuse this year. This coming from a CCHS guy too. My son is also currently at CCHS so nobody is rooting harder for Mario than I am. That being said...the man MUST earn his paycheck this year. You typically are as good as your QB is...and I SERIOUSLY doubt we're going to have another QB with the combination of game experience and arm talent that Ward has any time in the near future. The fanbase needs to understand that and not take it for granted. The chances are I won't be anywhere near this optimistic a year from now.

We have a window right now to become nationally relevant again. Not capitalizing on that would be really disappointing.

He threw for 4,648 yards and 47 TDs as a redshirt freshman at Incarnate Word. He threw for 3,735 yards and 25 TDs in his second and final season at Washington State. He declared for the NFL draft but didn't quite find what he was looking for and elected for one last season in college. Now, not only does Ward take on one of the more high-pressure jobs in college football -- it always feels like Miami's just a big-time quarterback away from a surge, and it never quite feels like the quarterback comes through -- but he also does so as the preseason ACC player of the year.

Ward is a patented spread-offense playmaker. He can typically get the ball out of his hands pretty quickly and accurately, with a high completion rate (67% last season) and lots of nibbles (11.6 yards per completion), but he's also an all-or-nothing scrambler who sometimes makes big plays with his feet and sometimes runs himself into sacks. He'll play for an offensive coordinator (Shannon Dawson) with plenty of spread experience, but his play will also be run through the Mario Cristobal filter of "Take no risks you don't have to take, and run the ball if you can run." (Here's your reminder that Justin Herbert threw the ball barely 30 times per game in two seasons with Cristobal. Ward threw more than 40 times per game last season at Wazzu.)

You can make an easy case for both a Ward and Miami breakout campaign this year. Ward and Oregon State transfer Damien Martinez will form one of the most high-upside backfields in the sport, defensive tackle Rueben Bain Jr. is a star and Miami plays only one projected top-30 team on the road. If Ward lives up to his billing (and if he's allowed to), the Hurricanes could make their own game-changing leap. But this is a rake we've stepped on before.

10+ Wins and an appearance in the ACCCG title game would be acceptable.

10+ wins and an ACCCG win with a good showing in a big bowl game would be successful.
