Corn Elder

From the sounds of Golden's interview yesterday with Bill King, it seems like the staff plans on starting him off at CB along with returning kicks.

Yeah I was surprised by that.

I've only seen highlights of Corn Elder, but he seems like an offensive playmaker. Interesting they want to start him out as a CB. Does he play D?

Having 2 elite athletes (Burns and Elder) coming in to play CB is a very good idea.... it also makes me think the staff feels good about Eduardo coming back strong and Gus being able to make an impact this year at RB.

Realistically he's not going to come in this year and play RB. There are a lot of things such as pass protection he may have trouble with.

They can develop him as a CB, and have him work as a returner this year. Then next year add some packages on O, such as Jet Sweeps, Screens, decoy plays etc, where he can make an impact on the offense.

Only thought process I can muster about the staff starting Corn off on D is that they may be concerned about his ability to put on weight. Dude's what 165? That's really light in the *** for someone 5'10". Duke came in 10 pounds heavier and is shorter, and still had a rough patch this season. Some guys just have difficulty putting on weight.

U guys are a trip. The guy is a high school SR, he is 5'11. That is round about average RB height. He can and will easily get to 200 lbs. Duke is 5'9 190 and he was 170 in high school. Which was part of the reason he was so underrated coming out as well. Elder, Duke etc are play makers. Give them the ball in whatever way and something will happen. How can you guys sit there and say he is too small when he hasn't even been through a college offseason program or a college weight room or nutrition and diet? Simply ridiculous

+1, he's a playmaker!

Y'all keep on forgetting that Rok still has some connections. He knew what was going on when he posted this topic.

On a slightly related note, does anyone have any thoughts on how Nate Dortch has looked since he got here, or what his ceiling might be? He came in extremely skinny but the thought was that he had every other tool needed to be a real player. I know he's still young but with Burns & possibly Elder coming in at CB it seems a critical time for him to establish his role as I sure don't see those two being slouches.

You guys should just start calling me Jesse Owens because I run this **** yo

duke was underrated outta high school? 5 star player?

It's a funny statement on its face, but Duke was the #9 ATH on ESPN. To quote the four-letter network's own gameday announcers, "I'd love to see number eight [on the list]."

To add to this, duke wasn't even a consensus 5 star until later on in his senior year. He actually may not have been a consensus 5 star, as some sites still ranked him as a 4 star IIRC

You're right. Next time I run into Duke, I'm gonna tell him to slow down cause he's not that good. :)

His "rough patch" was a result of sand toe, not breaking down as a result of being undersized. He's up to 195 right now and should stay above 190 for the entire season. FWIW

wasnt duke the kid who got dropped from 5 star to 4 star once he affirmed his commitment with us?

Man I really wanna see Corn play slot here at Miami. I'm glad he'll be playing on KR and PR right away, and who knows, maybe he'll be a great CB. I just think this kid is an electric playmaker and needs the ball in his hands, as most of us do.

I do believe in Golden so I'll let it play itself out, I'm just glad he'll be in the orange and green.
