Corn Elder

U guys are a trip. The guy is a high school SR, he is 5'11. That is round about average RB height. He can and will easily get to 200 lbs. Duke is 5'9 190 and he was 170 in high school. Which was part of the reason he was so underrated coming out as well. Elder, Duke etc are play makers. Give them the ball in whatever way and something will happen. How can you guys sit there and say he is too small when he hasn't even been through a college offseason program or a college weight room or nutrition and diet? Simply ridiculous

his body type does not look like a traditional RB. he is a mega tweener. 5'11" 165 is very small even for a HS RB

True, but traditional RB is not the role he would be expected to play on offense. He would be essentially a "utility" player, one who shifts around among different positions, sometimes RB, sometimes slot, the KR/PR game, etc. to take advantages of his shiftiness and explosiveness and to create mismatches. He's an ideal player for that role.

thats fine. i dont think he'll start at CB, I just dont really expect a lot from him on offense (at least this year). I think that his tape and all the numbers may be a little deceptive in terms of what kind of production we should expect from him

Just get the ball in his hands, running the ball, lining up in the slot, return game, catching screens...offense please

Do you guys just think of any small successful running back and compare him to corn? There's been plenty of playmakers that move to corner with elders same (if not better) ability on offense. Who gets hurt if corn is tried out at corner? If he is de'anthony Thomas or duke Johnson like you guys are proclaiming him he will make the transition fine back to offense.

Kid needs the ball in his hands. we dont need him as a back up DB.

What have you seen that has led you to put a cement ceiling on his ability at DB? Would he not start out as a backup on offense as well?

Wasn't Sean Taylor a RB coming out of HS?

I believe he still has the state record for most rushing TDs in a single season (44?).

Can't believe the coaches took the ball out of his hands to make him a DB.

What were the coaches thinking with Taylor? He could have been a first rounder if he stayed at RB, instead we move him to safety. Thanks Randy.

I hate it when the coaches put our best athletes on defense. It makes absolutely no sense.

Defense on this team is the least of our concerns, I'm more interested in winning games ala SDSU and BYU in the 90's 52-51 or some **** like that.

As a matter of fact, any player that cannot score a TD should be moved to defense right now.

Any guy that can run, catch, score TD's, or has any type of athleticism should remain on offense.

This kids GOT TO BE a slot receiver/rb combo. He just wreaks of Tavon Austin in my eyes for some reason. A little kid that can just absolutely make plays. He's explosive and elusive, which is a super dangerous combo and the type of kid you get out on the field with the offense any way possible.

I'm definitely not opposed to him being on offense, because it's obvious he has playmaking ability. I just think looking at his body type, athleticism, and football instincts that he can make one **** of a CB!

As for Tavon Austin, Corn is not close to him in the speed department.

One thing that seems to be forgotten in this thread is every kid that is not the same natural strength, toughness, durability etc.

Tavon Austin is a whole different animal than just about any other kid his size.

It's not an insult to a kid to move his position and find his best fit, and most of the time the best athletes are QB/WR in high school.

Get the kid into camp and sort it out from there.

Im not saying he cant be a cb. im saying with his ability to make plays i want him in the slot or as a rb.

From the sounds of Golden's interview yesterday with Bill King, it seems like the staff plans on starting him off at CB along with returning kicks.
