Corn Elder

I don't know if comparing us to Oregon works here. Oregon runs a pretty sophisticated yet gimmicky offense which uses a lot of motion and other crazy pre-snap stuff. Unless Coley were to create a package where we employ someone like Elder in a role similar to Thomas' I just don't know where Corn fits in our offense.

Yes, Oregon uses a hurry up (which Fisch did a lot as well) and spread option offense with some motions. But you don't have to use gimmicks to get someone the ball creatively. Elder is a guy you can move around in different spots to create mismatches. You saw Fisch do similar things with Duke last year. If you have athletes, you create plays and packages that utilize their strengths, without having to make drastic scheme changes to your offense. We already saw wildcat formations with Mike James receiving the snap and Duke coming in motion for a fly sweep. We saw Duke line up all over the place, including fullback if I'm not mistaken. We saw it with Dallas Crawford toward the end of the season.

You can line Elder up in traditional sets and find ways to get him the ball in space. Fisch used a lot of one back and even no back sets (sometimes motioning a WR to RB) last year and it appears Coley will be doing the same. It's definitely not a spread option, but it will have a lot of spread elements to it. Everyone in the country is implementing concepts from New Englands offense and Oregons offense, while maintaining a pro style offense. If Coley doesn't create packages to utilize his players skills, he's not going to be as successful an OC as he can be.

I also see Elder as more of a Slot/RB than a RB right now. At least until he puts on some weight.

Everything this guy just said is bull****

Yo man, I would like to think that we would find a way to get the leading rusher in the history of Tennessee football a couple of touches on O

good chance imo. I think he's too small to play RB at this level.

Too bad Jacquizz Rogers was to small also!

Wasnt Conley back in the day a small shifty back? I think elder will do just fine. Lets wait and see what he looks like in our system before we start writing him off in one position or another. He got an offer for a reason. The staff see's something in him. Lets trust Big AL

his tape is really not very impressive IMO

dude is tiny. is hardly even touched in his tape. looks like real bad backyard football

i expect him to redshirt

Its a highlight tape. Its not gonna feature the 4-5 yard gains. Knocking a RB like Elder's highlight tape becomes his competition can't touch him. Thats a first.

He isn't tiny. Lanky yes. He is 5'10" and 165-170. You would expect him to easily put 15-20 lbs by his junior year.

He's a monster with the ball in his hands. He will have his opportunity to show it on the field. We need Cb HOWEVER we need a slot and a RB as well. Go Canes

In response to the comparison between Thomas and Corn Elder... While you can't argue with Thomas' straight line speed (simply amazing), I like what I see in Corn Elder! I think he has much better elusiveness, vision, and sets his cuts up beautifully! Thomas is just pure speed! Elder could be the better football player! :neonu:

Corn is as electric as they come with the ball in his hands. He just has that "it" factor. I look for him to do BIG things at the U. Don't sleep on this kid.

Corn has just a high a ceiling at CB as he does at RB or slot WR. Get him in and see where he fits best.

With that said, I second to whoever said slot WR, as long as the kid can catch.

U guys are a trip. The guy is a high school SR, he is 5'11. That is round about average RB height. He can and will easily get to 200 lbs. Duke is 5'9 190 and he was 170 in high school. Which was part of the reason he was so underrated coming out as well. Elder, Duke etc are play makers. Give them the ball in whatever way and something will happen. How can you guys sit there and say he is too small when he hasn't even been through a college offseason program or a college weight room or nutrition and diet? Simply ridiculous

State Champion RB who's a threat to score whenever he touches the ball? Huge chance!!!

The list of guys who play corner, yet have the ability to score from anywhere on the field is as long as the equator.

A list? Who gives a fock about a list? The kid is a state champion RB who is a threat to score any time he touches the ball but now he's a CB? GTFOOH! Let's move Duke Johnson to CB because he too is small for RB? Let's look at all the CB film of Elder proving his skills? Oh there's none?

Focking moron...

I'm a big fan of having as many playmakers on offense, but he needs to be implemented wherever he's needed it!
