MEGA Conference Realignment and lawsuits Megathread: Stories, Tales, Lies, and Exaggerations

At the MOMENT conferences are pretty much on a "forced hold" due to network battles (ESPN / Direct TV / FUBU / Venue Sports Streaming). Once things settle down ... or as soon as a school like FSU / Clemson has a confirmation that they LEAVE WITH RIGHTS ... things will change. Miami just needs to make the CFP and win a game or two ... lock up a top 5 class ... and UM will be in the P2 discussion.

no one knows what Miami is doing behind the scenes. They could be completely positioned and ready to move when things line up for it.

FSU on the other hand is basically proving the point "when you dont say anything people can think you are idiots, but when you actually speak we know you are idiots"
Disagree. Maybe the tone could have been modified but the fundamental action ... FSU / Clemson suing the ACC has proven to be vital for all members wanting to exit. First, we all learned that the ACTUAL ESPN MEDIA AGREEMENT on runs through the 2026 football season, expiring on 6/30/2027, and NOT in 2036 as the ACC had led everyone to believe. ALSO we learned that the ESPN media agreement apparently modifies the GOR in stating that the media agreement is in force ONLY so long as schools remain members of the ACC conference. (ie, you leave, you leave WITH your media rights). FSU has TODAY (9/13/24)filed requesting that the Florida court rule a declaratory judgment on several key points that effectively would permit FSU to leave the ACC with rights. FSU has fought the legal battle and all will benefit by the ruling ... which might force the ACC to reach some settlement sooner than later.

This feels like a long shot, does it limit their options going forward or is this perfunctory?
This has been expected. Even if the judge rules in favor there will be an appeal etc. Seems like the BIG date right now is February 1, 2025 ... the date that the ESPN option to extend the media agreement from 6/30/27 to 2036 expires. If they don't exercise the option .... or if they present a REVISED MEDIA PROPOSAL ... that requires member approval ... then we should be out as well worst case after the 2026 season.

From his source that gave him USC to big before anyone and Colorado to big 12
“Lots of different roads lead Miami towards the Big Ten between 2026 and 2029. Difficult to project all those roads being closed off to Miami. University OF Miami is who big 10 presidents want as part of the next expansion and there won’t be any objections being reCEIVED from media And money interests”

And
Big dominos to fall first, then dominos to fall after but not really going to alter the future of Miami. Miami is an island on itself. The other moves and lawsuits will have no ultimate impact. And it’s connected to big ten

NBC just carried Indiana vs. UCLA in a Saturday night prime time window ffs.

The B1G and its media partners definitely need more football brands and/or programs that have won at a significant level this century to drive viewership.

Fact is, though, there are just two such schools realistically within reach: UM and Notre Dame.

Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
USC
Nebraska
Washington
Oregon

Miami
Notre Dame

Throw in Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan State — typically solid programs with large fan followings — and that's a dozen schools that can drum up weekly interest for FOX, CBS, NBC and their affiliated platforms

Why are those the only two schools within reach? As much as I hate FSU and Clemson, B1G should just add these four schools and call it a day.
